Time Warp + Oatmeal

I felt like I’m in a time warp today:

1) I went to cycle class this morning. I usually cycle on Fridays but I missed last week due to traveling so I decided to go today. Too bad it’s Monday because it sure felt like Friday!

2) A woman in cycle had an 80′s afro and was wearing all spandex. What decade is it!?

3) The high today here in Charlotte is 78*!!!! Is it SUMMER?!??

Breakfast #1

Toast with jam before the gym. It didn’t hold me over very well today because I was starving in the middle of spinning!

Workout

As I mentioned, I did an hour spinning class this morning. Nice and sweaty – my legs are tired! 480 calories burned too! They were giving away muffins, trail mix and coffee at the gym this morning (some Xmas thing). I brought the husband a muffin, which he devoured in 10 seconds but passed myself. I’d rather have oatmeal!

Breakfast #2

Oatmeal with banana, toasted almonds, and PB. My mother-in-law told me she always toasts almonds in the microwave. A minute on high will lightly brown them. I knew this was possible, but I was still pulling out a second skillet every morning. Today I tried nuking them – worked like a charm! I had to do closer to 2 minutes, but it certainly saved having to clean another dish.

Product News

According to Hungry Girl’s email this morning, Gnu Foods has a new flavor for their fiber bars: Peanut Butter! I looked it up and sure enough, peanut butter is now listed on their website. Read about it here: Gnu Foods Website

I like these bars and eat them on occasion. I can’t wait to try it!!

OMG PEANUT BUTTER GNU BARS?! Thanks for the heads up, I will DEFINITELY be trying those! Very exciting. The flowers are lovely :).

I feel like it's summer here too! It's supposed to be 80 all week! I want some snow:) The wedding ended up going fine, I mean they didn't say anything about the extra guest. Although I was tempted to tell them how I fought it and thought it was rude. I kept thinking the bride probably thought I was a terrible girlfriend for allowing someone to do that! And where do you buy your gnu bars? I didn't like the chocolate one, but I think I'll have to give the PB a try!

Kath I noticed that you drink coffee a lot of times with your meal, and I use to do the same, mostly drink it right after I found out that caffeiene inhibits iron absoprtion, and I know you dnt eat a lot of red meat so just wanted to give you a heads up about that. I usually wait about an hour to have coffee after i eat.

I ordered my Gnu bars directly from their website. I got 4 of each and am still working through them. Since i don't eat bars that much, it's taking me a while!! The chocolate is my least favorite – the cinnamon raisin is great!! I like the orange too, but it's rather zesty.

Thanks for the heads up! I think we did discuss that in my nutrition class. I have switched over to decaf coffee, as the caffeine was making me feel tense and stressed (so I think…). I'm guessing decaf doesn't have the same effect? I should probably just give up coffee altogether because I don't like it black and I'd rather not have splenda every morning. But it's so yummy!! That's one of those things I'm torn between.

I love coffee:) So what do you usually put in your coffee? I noticed you have blueberry coffee once in a while and I love that flavor!!! Any other particularly good flavors you have had?

Lauren,

I put some splenda or Torani sugar-free syrup and 1-2 oz of skim milk. We currently have the butter toffee syrup and it's AMAZING! But like I said, I'd really like to cut back a lot on the artificial sweeteners. I don't mind them in my diet, but it's not something I want to eat every morning.

I'll drink regular coffee, but we only make flavored at home. Flavored coffees we've loved:

Butterscotch

Blueberry Cobbler

Chocolate

Hazelnut – French Vanilla blend

Snickerdoodle

Sorry, we got them all at local coffee shops. But I'm sure you could find similar flavors at your local mom and pop coffee shops in your town!
