Every morning I hope to do something creative for breakfast, but most mornings I wake up so hungry I go into autopilot making a filling bowl of oats.
Super classic KERF whipped banana oatmeal:
The Mix
- 1/3 cup rolled oats
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 banana
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- Pinch salt
- Salty peanuts
- TJ’s Sunflower butter
- Butterscotch chips
- Plain Jane granola
These were sent to me by Sarah, who is the owner of Nuts About Granola. The Plain Jane, which I tried today, is peanut butter granola and tasted just like I’d smothered some oats in peanut butter and baked them in the oven. It was also really chewy, which I loved because I am a super chewer! My fingers did slip into the Chocolate Mint Cookie – now that’s the closest I’ve come to eating a Thin Mint without a green box in sight. Very minty – would be awesome over a chocolate spinach smoothie!
Today is the 6th anniversary of my parents adopting…
Lillian Valentine Younger!
February 12, 2005 – Barbara and Clifford meet Lillian at Orange County Animal Shelter
February 12, 2011- Lillian Valentine Younger gets real tuna in honor of her sixth adoption anniversary, premium tuna purchased at a good price from Food Lion by Clifford and served by Barbara in an elegant antique dish [A joke because her aunt Karen likes to feed her expensive organic cat food that makes my dad roll his eyes!]
Lillian wants to thank all of her good friends for their love over the years and for joining with us in wishing her a happy sixth anniversary.

Don’t worry Lillis Billis – Kanz and I will find you some more organic cat food!
All the kitties in Cville say: “Meowpy Anniversary Lillian!”
Love,
Tiger, Fluffy, Timmy, Alien Cat, and Grover

I went to Elizabethtown College with Sarah! I believe she started selling her granola as a fundraiser for cross-country or the triathlon club (which she started)…I would always buy it. I loved the College Staple (pb granola with cranberries). So good!
The flower photos are gorgous today! I am really enjoying your flower pics lately, gets me excited for spring.
Love the adoption anniversary! Congrats Lillian, look like you found a great fur-ever home
Wow Lilian has quite a look about her! She is beautiful and has such expression to her.
Love all of your pink, someone is in the valentines day mood!
Awwww, Lillian!
P.S. Those flowers are gorgeous!
Lillian has the most interested cat mouth I have ever seen. It makes her look very serious – very regal – like she is constantly saying “I am above you plebes! Now get me some more discount tuna if you may!!”.
Lillian is such a hilarious name for a cat — but from the pictures here it seems to suit her! I love how she kind of has a scowl 24/7.
Choc Mint Granola sounds fabulous!
Awesome flowers and oats! Your breakfast always looks insanely delicious
Haha! My Grandma has a Food Lion by her house, they are so fun.
I love all things pink, banana oatmeal, and granola! I am definitely a chewer too, that granola sounds absolutely delicious (especially the Thin Mint), maybe I should order some!
That cat has the most amazing face! I’ve never seen one like it
Beauitful breakfast – pink is my favourite colour, you totally won me over with this post
Can’t mess with a classic sometimes!
this is so cute! are you an animal lover? i think you are!
I’m so happy you name your neighborhood cats too (unless those are the cats’ real names, in which case I’m seeming silly)! My mom and I love to label all the random strays who pass through and taunt our indoors kitty.
Meowpy Birthday to Lillian & Have a lovely day!
Those are our names for the neighbor’s cats!
I love the pink in this post! The flowers are beautiful! Happy Birthday to Lillian! Such a cute cat!
Wow, I want that chocolate mint granola!
Awww – love Lillian! The first picture is adorable!
That cat is certainly unique looking!!! Do they know her history? Is she a mix with something exotic? Brilliant ode to Lillian though and wish her a very happy birthday from me
Mmm…I had oatmeal too with raspberries and cinnamon
Best breakfast ever. And dinner in my opinion!!
This is random, but the other day I was telling my mom about your blog. I said “she has this super famous blog, she cooks, works at great harvest, and is a registered nutritionist…Dream job?!” Haha. Keep blogging
Thank you Kath for the kind words!
I working on adding the chocolate mint to the site as we speak. Should be up soon!
I am glad to know that adoption of a friend is done by others that can. I have adopted loved ones and they will be safe and loved forever also. Lillian is beautiful!!! She is blessed to have such good people that love her. Please encourage others to adopt…there are so many that need loving families. Thank you for caring.
Well the actual breakfast might be standard fare for you but the PICTURES are beautiful and creative!
Lillian has the craziest expression I’ve ever seen. That is too cool. And it only feeds my urge to go get a kitten this afternoon…
That picture of your dad (?) kissing the cat is just about the cutest thing I have seen in a long time!
Oh my gosh, Lillian is so cute!! That one face of hers in the bigger photo is priceless.
That cat is so unique looking! I love the flowers! So beautiful and spingy!
Your photo collage/placements on the blog are looking so neat! They’re also extra crisp. Keep it up, Kath!
That breakfast looks great! And Happy Anniversary to kitty!
I adore all of the pink
I usually always make the same thing every morning for breakfast. I don’t see how other people can manage to switch around, but then again.. I’m a creature of habit.
oh that granola looks great!
The granola looks yummie! How much do you typically use when you put it on your oats? Do you think it is yummie enough to order?
Thank you!
Yeah!
Lillian is such a goofy looking cat, which makes her utterly adorable!
She has that “angry Persian” look that my Dad’s cat has. So cute!
The granola looks yummie! How much do you typically use when you put it on your oats? Do you think it is yummie enough to order?
Thank you! Heather
Maybe 2 tbsp?
I’ve been meaning to tell you about the fried oatmeal my dad used to make. He would make a big batch of plain oats and put it in a loaf pan, but you could just make an extra serving next time you make oats, and pop it in the fridge (maybe in the mini loaf glass dish I gave you) . The next day, slice it and fry it up crispy. Top as you please. I guess adding banana or cottage cheese would make it less firm though…should be thick with oatage : )
Oh that sounds fun!
That peanut butter granola sound good! Is it worth ordering? Also I adore the cat’s face in that first picture! It’s the quintessential haughty cat face!
Yeah! It was pretty good!
Yum! The granola and oats looks great. Aww Lillian
Love all the pink! I’m in kitty heaven too
How stinking cute is Lillian! I love that she looks like she has black lipstick on! How precious!
I’ve never put peanuts on my oatmeal but I’m doing it…..next time I go grocery shopping I’m picking up peanuts and using them just like this! YUMMY!
I wake up ravenous in the mornings too and nothing satisfies my hunger quite like a big bowl of oats! Love this recipe (and your gazillions of others!!) XOXOXOXO
I love Nuts about Granola! especially since they’re local : ) My favorite is “lover’s Combo” it’s peanut butter granola with chocolate chips yum! but now I’m on the hunt to try Chocolate Mint Cookie!!
Hello from another local!
Hi Liz!! : )
I’m usually too hungry in the morning to get creative with breakfast too, so I just find the quickest, easiest thing to eat!
I love oats in the morning too- SO worth it!
Those flower photos are gorgeous! What kind of flowers are those? Love them … and I adore all of the kitty photos. Thanks for sharing!
I shouldn’t tell you this, but they’re fake! From Pier 1 years ago
NO WAY!! Oh my, gosh, they’re beautiful — fooled me!

Aww, Lillian is such a cutie! We have tons of neighborhood cats, too, and I love when they come by to visit!
I’m always too hungry in the mornings to get creative too. Some mornings I can’t even wait the 15 minutes to make oatmeal!
Random question, but what do you do with the other half of your banana?!
It’s in my half!
Yeah, I use 1 whole banana everyday so I just put half in my mix to be accurate
I’m drooling thinking about that granola….chocolate miiiiiiiiint!!!!!!!!!!! Love the flowers…purdy!!
Nuts About Granola is awesome! I work at Central Market in York on occasion (my brother has a restaurant there) and they have a stand there. He got their stuff as Christmas gifts for people! I’m all squeeing about seeing my town mentioned in your blog, lol.
Also: YAY KITTY. Thanks to your parents for adopting.
It makes us animal rescue volunteers so happy. And WHAT A SWEET FACE!
Lillian Update:
Lillian just enjoyed her anniversary people tuna and she is VERY happy.
She thanks Kath for the kind shout out and all of you for the lovely wishes.
She is sooooooooo adorable, just love that little face!
How about a Lillian the Cat BLOG, Mom?!?
Poppy & Matilda and I would really enjoy that.
We’d love to be guest bloggers if we could figure out how to use a camera.
P.S. We started following Kath’s blog hoping for more glimpses of Lillian!
That face is killing me! What a sweet cat!
Oh my gosh….the eyes on Lillian are incredible!
mmm i’m nuts about granola – that’s a great name for a product! i’m not so nuts about cats, though. very very allergic.
Awwww……Happy Anniversary Lillian from my two adoptees, Meggo & Louie. She reminds me of a rescue cat I worked with named Henrietta. She always reminded me of a cartoon because of the way her mouth was drawn
I always wake up starving too! I just stick to my bowl of oats because it’s fast and easy, and I just can’t wait for food!
The girly girl inside of me completely fell in love with all the pink in your breakfast shot! It’s getting my very excited for spring, which is right around the corner….. right?!
As a kitty lover, I vote for this to be post of the year!!
Happy anniversary, Lillis Billis!

And I love that pink fabric you used in the top photos – so bright and cheerful!
Oh, those granolas look fabulous! Seeing as I’m in Australia, that means it’s time for me to return to my tried and true peanut butter granola recipe
I love all the kitties sending b-day wishes, so cute. That granola sounds amazing.
So happy you loved the granola! Sarah really does have a great product and I’m happy to be able to connect her to the wonderful blog world.

I can’t even put into words how much I loved this post. I am obsessed with cats! I love the first picture of Miss Lillian; what a face!! Then, at the end, all the pics of cats around C-ville. Ahh, I’m in heaven! What cutie pies!
