My mom is one of KERF’s biggest fans and as a writer, she is always sending me quotes "…for the blog!”
This one made me smile today:
[^^ That be my dessert cookie!]

“It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.”

Doesn’t surprise me that this comes from you. Love it! Walt is actually a really cute name when you think about it!
I am going to wear jeans tomorrow, and am giddily excited about it. Woo.
“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.” — Dr. S.
~
LOVE that!!
I love any quote by Dr. Seuss, especially the one written by Angie, and Lucille Ball!! Lucy: “One of the things I learned the hard way was that it doesn’t pay to get discouraged. Keeping busy and making optimism a way of life can restore faith in yourself.” One more: “A man who correctly guesses a woman’s age may be smart, but he’s not very bright.” Have a great rest of the day, Kath!
Yay jeans!!
I normally eat goat cheese, but lately I’ve been craving cheddar. I wonder why?? haha.
Haha. I just got some that’s really good quality and local – it makes a difference!
LOVING the jean weather lately! That quote is great – love it!
“live like the human being you can be unashamed of”
AND:
“Dark, distinct,
and excellently
female.”
You haven’t worn jeans yet?! I’ve been wearing them for a month now. It gets chilly at night and I love jeans.

I love this quote and it reminds me to step out of my comfort zone, take risks, and try new things!
At least your mom sends you quotes for the blog! My mom sends me “man of the month” calendars..

Henry Van Dyke
But I’m always coming across lovely uplifting and funny quotes, there’s one for every mood!
You should try the tomato open faced melt with mozzarella and some basil pesto. Heavenly! One of my favorite meals when tomatoes are in season.
“God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can, and the wisdom to know it’s me. “
Great modification of the original classic AA-derived mantra!
I caught a clip of “The Talk” today (PVR) and the opening segment discussed issues related to that quote. Kris Jenner’s daughter received hate emails, etc. for modeling and ill comments. Kris summed it up perfectly when she said that it takes an angry, jealous and sick person to have the time and need to say things like this. So obviously people deal with other people’s ridiculous pettiness daily. Wish they’d grow up.
That photo of your tomato/cheddar melt is simply mouth-watering.
i love george carlin. if he were alive he’d be ROCKIN it on twitter
Jean Jacket. Word to your mother.
I love adding tomatoes to my grill cheese sandwiches. Something about a tomato + melted cheese is really so good!
And I love your mom’s quote/message.
Hang in there, Kath
ooooh agreed- that’s my favorite combo on grilled cheese!
I love open-face melts just like that. Sometimes I start with the bread under the broiler with dice of garlic & onion, so the bread gets a little crisp before the tomato juices run into it. Mmmm!
I can’t wait to get into our house and find a toaster oven here in Italy. The voltage is different, so we gave away our kitchen appliances before we left.
Favorite quote:
If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.
- Mother Teresa
mmm that melt looks incredible!!
I’m a huge fan of Dr. Seuss quotes. All-time fave is: “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind”.
That is the exact quote I was going to write! I love that one.
I have jeans and a fleece on. Craziness!
Jeans!!!! Jeans somehow make it feel like the weekend hahaha I wore a jean skirt today to work… did the job halfway haha
And pumpkin spice vinegar! How was it??? Sounds delcious… especially with those honey pine nuts!
I have one of my favorite quotes plastered right on the front page of my blog haha “Rather than eat my sprouts alone, it would be better for me to share a pizza with some friends.” Steven Bratman
Yay!!!! The weekend is currently 34 minutes away woo hoo!!!

We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give. -Sir Winston Churchill
Such a great quote! Plums are the bomb.
What a pretty lunch!
I have always liked “Well behaved women rarely make history.” which, I believe is attributed to Eleanor Roosevelt.

John Burroughs
Love that!
I am wearing a hoodie!!! I was sweating the other day! Oy!

Tolerance!
After a long and painful meeting that quote made me smile!!! and the sandvich is calling my name as well!!
“You’ve always had the power, my dear. You’ve always had the power.” – The Wizard of Oz
I LOVE this quote. We all have the power, no matter the situation, to do something. We always have a choice…even if that choice is to just to let go and move on.
Kath, just wanted to say that I visit your blog everyday. I don’t comment much but wanted to let you know that I enjoy your pictures and reading your blog. Keep your head up. As you said, this too shall pass.
The Wiz of Oz is near and dear to my heart <3
Thanks much for your comment
This is a song lyric, but I like it the same:

How about these?

more of my favorite quotes on my blog, but here’s one of them:
“To be nobody-but-yourself-in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else-means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting.” – e. e. cummings
“Sometimes what feels like a setback is really preparation for a big leap forward”
YAAAAAAAAY for jeans!! Seriously. I can’t wait to put on a pair this weekend!
And yeah – that quote is pretty awesome. I too am subject to “for the blog” pass-alongs from my family and friends. It makes me smile
I have so many! Ah, the plague of being an English teacher. But these are my faves:
“If i’m lucky–and perhaps, in spite of all that has happened, i am–the happiness will be in the figuring out.” -Divakaruni
“Literature is no one’s private ground, literature is common ground. let us trespass freely and fearlessly and find our way for ourselves.”-Virginia Woolf (I actually made this into a sign to hang over my classroom door. Dorky and awesome).
“I feel i’m moving toward as well as away from something, and anything is possible.”~Bret Easton Ellis
I love quotes, and that one is funny!

It’s just above 50 here so I switched the shorts for jeans and a jacket to walk to pick up my daughter up. I really needed that quote to make me smile today since I had to keep my son home from preschool and screen his poop because he decided to use his stomach for a piggy bank for a quarter! We had a fun day playing games but digging through poop and not even finding the quarter was not fun! Hope your day was a fun and happy one!
Keep calm and carry on.
My new favorites that I just read the other day: Begin with that most terrifying of all things, a clean slate. Then look, every day, at the choices you are making, and when you ask yourself why you are making them, find this answer, for me, for me. Anna Quindlen
Sometimes the most urgent and vital thing you can possibley do is to take a complete rest. Asleigh Brilliant
I think I’ll take this advice now!
Oh no! There is a quarter on the floor of our bedroom right now..maybe it’s his!?
Seriously though..hope he’s ok!
I love wearing jeans too! Yay for fall!
“Life can only be understood backward, but it must be lived forward.” -The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
oh my goodness that sandwich looks delicious! I LOVE cheddar cheese!
Love the quotes and I’m wearing jeans!
“Does this shirt make my butt look faster?”
I don’t get that one!?
She’s running.
So Faster instead of “look fat”. Looking at the body for what it can do vs. what it looks like.
Ahhhh. Nice!
Exactly!! Haha it just makes me laugh cuz of how much you hear “does this make me look fat?” But we’re running fiends and get our rear in gear by running the road raw instead of obsessing over if it’s “fat”.
Aaah, that cheddar and tomato looks incredible. Needs a top though!
“You don’t have to cook fancy or complicated masterpieces
– just good food from fresh ingredients.” – Julia Child
LOVE that quote – so funny!
“Be the change you wish to see in the world.” ~Ghandi
Rah Roh! I dont have any jeans that fit so don’t blow the weather this way!
“Well behaved women seldom make history”
-Eleanor Roosevelt
So sorry to hear of your mental anguish, Kath. If there’s one thing I know, it’s that Mom’s know best in these cases…her advice sounds right-on to me!
Maybe a great yoga session or two would provide a welcome respite from your worries so that you can come back with a clearer mind?
In any event, I hope you get a peaceful night’s sleep tonight.
(My favorite personal mantra is also the Ghandi quote Emily posted above.)
my favorite quote is from a show called Six Feet Under. it is:
“You hold on to your pain like it means something. You can do anything, you lucky bastard, you’re alive!”
Hey Kath–
Off topic question. A lot of people swear off carbs or eat bread in moderation for weight loss or to maintain a healthy weight. I’m trying to work on my “gut” issues and looking for changes I can make. Giving up my bread a pasta would make me sad, but I’d try to try it if I thought it’d help. You’re looking pretty good and enjoying your bread, too. What are your thoughts on the subject?
I think it’s just portion control. It’s really easy to eat too many carbs – not so much with other types of food. I don’t think you need to give either of those up – just make sure you’re eating an appropriate amount for your activity level. Remember carbs = energy and without them our bodies have a really hard time functioning
Thanks for the advice! I just found our local Great Harvest Bread Co. They’re on vacation for two weeks.
I’m excited for them to return!
Enjoy your weekend.
“Simba, you are more than what you’ve become.” The Lion King
Well behaved women seldom make history
That quote is hilarious. Love it! That sandwich looks amazing! Such a good idea, never thought of it. My mom barely reads my blog. How nice right? haah
“success is not measured by the amount of money you make, but by the amount of people you inspire”
Pumpkin spice vinegar? YUM! That would probably be so good with some apples in a salad. Unless I’m thinking of the wrong “spice”.
I had sweatpants on yesterday. <3 OH, the fall/college/'I'm too lazy to put on real pants' season. I love it.
“”Don’t rely on someone else for your happiness and self worth. Only you can be responsible for that. If you can’t love and respect yourself – no one else will be able to make that happen. Accept who you are – completely; the good and the bad – and make changes as YOU see fit – not because you think someone else wants you to be different.” ~Stacey Charter
love that quote.
Hey Kath!
I’m curious as to how you made the melt? (Maybe a silly question, but I’m still pretty new to all this cooking stuff!) :]
Hey Nicole,
I toasted the bread in our new toaster oven, then added the tomato and cheddar and toasted another 3-4 minutes until the cheese was melty.
That meal looks delicious! I made have to steal that opened faced sandwich idea for dinner one of these nights with some tomatoes from our patio garden.
First and formost that George Carlin quote made me crack up and the food made my mouth water! I’m a coach and one of my favorite quotes is by Dale Carnegie. It is, “Remember happiness doesn’t depend upon who you are or what you have; it depends solely on what you think.”
