The Sunday Chef

June 24, 2012

Matt sometimes makes me breakfast during the week when he’s back from an early run and needs to get to the bakery on time.

Thus, I always repay the favor on Sundays, his day to sleep till noon nine : )

I try to make it something special – this morning it was Great Harvest banana pancakes with hot berries. Reginald’s Cashew-Nilla Butter on mine!

Plus a sprinkle of coconut and some hot tea

We have a busy Sunday ahead – 2 parties and 1 dinner with another Great Harvest owner. I’m going to have to plan my eating well if I want to keep an appetite going!

Gotta check out that cashew nilla butter! Cashews are so naturally sweet so they probably taste amazing with a bit of vanilla flavoring!

I think I could eat pancakes that look like those every. single. day.

p.s. I am way proud of you for being able to make the switch to tea. I think I would eat my feelings if I didn’t have some earthy-tasting dark roast every day, but girl you’re a champ. amen.

I second that thought- these pancakes look amazing!

4 Rebecca @ Blueberry Smiles June 24, 2012 at 8:24 am

Perfect Sunday morning breakfast! Pancakes are on our agenda as well :-)

Keeping my appetite open for all my food events has been the most unexpected “problem” from food blogging!

How sweet of you to return the favor. Enjoy your Sunday!

Cashew nilla butter sounds awesome, especially on pancakes!

9 Katie @ Talk Less, Say More June 24, 2012 at 9:04 am

YUM! Those pancakes look delicious! I hope someday to find someone who can make me breakfast some mornings. 😉

Aww that’s so sweet :) There’s nothing better then waking up to deliscious food prepared just for you. Too bad I’m always the first person to wake up in my family 😛

Matt’s a lucky man! That looks delicious and your table cloth is very pretty too!

13 Janice June 24, 2012 at 9:54 am

You always make your meals look so yummy!

14 Cait's Plate June 24, 2012 at 11:19 am

It was a pancake morning in our house too! That cashew-nilla butter sounds amazing.

I always feel slightly panicked on days when I have multiple gatherings…it’s so hard to fill up on the food at one! :)

Hey Kath,

have you or anyone else noticed that Whole Foods has been out of Chia Seeds in the bulk bins? I went to 2 Whole foods and they were both out until October :(

I want to buy from chia seeds direct but the lowest amount you can buy is 4lbs…thats a lot if chia seeds for just me.

Do you know of anywhere else I can buy maybe 1 or 2 lbs? Also, if I were to buy 4lbs would it go bad?

Thanks! Happy Sunday :)

20 KathEats June 24, 2012 at 2:54 pm

I bought 2 lbs from them last time…4 is a lot. Did you search the whole site?

21 Tiffany June 24, 2012 at 10:50 pm

I just checked again I don’t see 2lbs…

There is no where to click on the site to search for different sizes. Am I not seeing the link?

If you find it would you link it? Thank you so much!!

22 KathEats June 25, 2012 at 8:27 am

Bummer, I think you’re right. Which means unfortunately I won’t be re-ordering either – 4# is just too much. It would take me a year + to go through! I’m going to email them..

23 KathEats June 25, 2012 at 8:30 am

Here’s 2# that’s probably less than the bulk bins, although I’d have to check, and it’s not as cheap as the 4# bag.

Anyone know what the price per pound is in bulk bins?

24 KathEats June 25, 2012 at 8:31 am

(Just bought that after reading reviews…FYI!)

25 Roxanne June 24, 2012 at 2:57 pm

What a pretty plate, colorful.
Chia seeds haven’t made it into my meals yet… maybe I should look into it?

26 Erica June 24, 2012 at 4:40 pm

Who wouldn’t want to wake up to this? Yummy and pretty. Hope you guys had a fabulous day

27 Angel7 June 24, 2012 at 6:30 pm

The wonderful smell of breakfast might have woke Matt up :) I know that it would have woke me up.

28 molly @ heart, sole & cereal June 24, 2012 at 7:16 pm

i love that tablecloth. gray and yellow are my fave color combo!

29 Amanda @flecksofgreen June 24, 2012 at 8:07 pm

I might be in the mood for pancakes–and it’s 9:15pm lol How does the Cashew-Nilla butter compare, nutrition-wise, to other nut butters?

30 Aubrey June 24, 2012 at 8:28 pm

Hot berries? Silly to ask how you did that? haha Sounds yummy!!

31 KathEats June 24, 2012 at 8:33 pm

Just heated ’em up in the skillet to take the fridge chill off :)

32 Gail B June 24, 2012 at 10:29 pm

Awwww it must be hubby think a lot a like weekend! Yours looks yummy too :)

33 Lexi @ You, Me, & A World to See June 25, 2012 at 10:51 am

I absolutely loooove nut butter, but I’ve never tried cashew! Guess I’ll have to put it on the summer bucket list 😉

34 Ashley @ Hudson on the Potomac June 25, 2012 at 12:11 pm

I like that you warmed up the berries, great idea for a warm breakfast!

35 Lee, Anytime Health June 25, 2012 at 2:47 pm

Don’t you wish every day was Sunday? I find that I always make the same thing over and over again during the week, so I use the weekend to mix it up a bit!

36 Dennis June 25, 2012 at 9:00 pm

That looks so delicious. I wish I had better access to more fresh fruits.
