Making progress! All day it’s been up and down and up and back down with things. It seems everything for the attic is in the basement. I carry something up and something else back down. Quite the leg workout this week! I couldn’t even imagine going for a run right now…
Still also playing with the furniture – not sure what I want up and down!
In love with these sneaky built-in shelves! I had plans to built shelves for my Ball jars, but they just fit too well right here I’m not sure I need more!
I also love the gray wall in the dining room as a backdrop for food!
Our last dining room was SO dark and this one is nice and bright!
Leftover pasta from last night
Plus a spinach salad with peppers, tomatoes, honey peanuts and Drunken Goat!
Twins Alyssa and Julianne brought me some goodies from Philly this past weekend – an amazing fruit puree vinegar (it’s like a fruit juice + vinegar hybrid!) plus some cheeses – the Drunken Goat is made with wine – and chocolate with corn! Total foodie fun
Thanks girls – leave a comment please so I can get your email!
Tasty Emily / Kim cookie to end sweet!
I perked up this afternoon – not even tired for a nap. But hopefully I can sleep well tonight.

I LOVE that built in shelf! So handy and chic
those ball jar shelves are perfect! one of the best parts of moving into a new place is discovering the little nooks and crannies and how your stuff all fits in. hooray for an adorable new home!
The shelves are very cute, we used to have some in our old apartment and I liked them very much! The good thing when moving is the decorating part, like a fresh start, a new page in your life
I would love that extra shelf space in the kitchen! 5 people in one tiny space means there’s no extra room!
Love the shelves. I’m planning my new (to me) kitchen – (I get to start working on it next month) and am already thinking about where all of my Ball jars are going to go. I think I have about twice as many as you… eeks.
~
Ah I love the sneaky shelves! So cute
And the green chair in your new blue living room is absolutely perfect, love it!
wow!! you have made progress
it’s funny that you mentioned the shelves with the ball jars.. I noticed them in the pic of Matt in the kitchen & was going to ask if they were built ins or if it was a shelf that you brought along.
I was going to wait until you were less busy
I ended up (before I read this post) clearing off one of my smaller bookshelves today & pulling out all of my grain/bean filled ball jars & put them on the bookshelf in the kitchen. i think that I really like it
( I keep walking in & out of the kitchen just to be sure
now I need to figure out what to do with all of the cookbooks…..
congratulations on the house!
thanks for waiting until I was less busy
This looks amazing, Kath! The progress is awesome. Can you come design my apartment?
Your living room is so cute. I love the white shelving/cabinet in there! Oh my gosh that shelving in the kitchen is just perfect. Something I totally want to build for my jars!
I was just commenting to myself how neat those little shelves were for your ball jars when I was reading your earlier posts.
I love the colors in your new abode! Can’t wait to see how everything shapes up!
How many levels are in the house? 3 or 4 (with attic)?
3 – basement, main, attic
Love all your furniture! Those shelves are super cute but I’m glad we don’t have them in our house. Our puppy would have all those jars broken in no time!!!
Love your built in shelves. Jealous! And it’s amazing how fast your new house is put together. I just moved myself, but many of the boxes still adorn the garage!.
looks like it’s coming together beautifully!
I just love the color of your living room. That first picture looks like something you would see in House Beautiful or Better Homes and Gardens.
I’m SO jealous of your bright dining room!! I was noticing that yesterday. Also a huge fan of the gray backdrop myself
Ahh yes – moving…where everything you need is in the exact opposite location of where it should be.
Love the little shelves in the kitchen, though. So perfect.
I love your healthy eats while moving- for us, it was cold pizza and side salad day after day until we got the kitchen set up! The living room looks great and the grey wall is perfect for your food shots!
That little shelf is perfect for those jars! What a good way to make that tiny sliver next to the stove usable. I love your gray backdrop. I always love food photos with dark backgrounds, unfortunately there are none in my house
Everything is coming together nicely! A new house is so much fun
It looks so good already!! You really can’t tell that you JUST moved in.
Those shelves for the bell jars are awesome!
Ok the shelf with your mason jars is too cute! I love it.
And the living room is looking great so far. I love the blue walls + black/white furniture.
Hi Kath!
What size are your Bell Jars? I can easily find the 32oz ones but I think I need bigger (like 44oz) and yours seem to be that size. I love the storage and functionality of them.
Love the blog, I read it everyday!
I’m not quite sure ’cause I”m downstairs and don’t want to walk up again, but I’m pretty sure they are 1 liter!? I will check next time I’m up there
I’m pretty sure Kath’s are 32oz (1 quart). I think that’s the biggest they come, since canning recipes are all for pints or quarts, nothing larger.
You can easily find half-gallon size in Ball jars as well… (I have a dozen of them). They were at my local independent hardware store. Walmart and Amazon.com also have a bunch.
~
World Market sells them individually too!
Thanks guys!
That fruit puree vinegar looks and sounds like it would taste really good!
I never would have put chocolate and corn together, but I am not one to judge until I have tried something.

Those hidden shelves are so awesome!! I’d Love to Have them in my kitchen!
It’s lookin’ good! I seriously LOVE hidden shelves like that–soooo handy!
Dang how are you so together?! You are such an inspiration. I wish I was half that together! Everything looks good Kath. I hope you have a great evening!
The jars are absolutely adorable there. Do not move them!!
Honestly, looking at your living room furniture & the color of the walls from an earlier post, I would never have dreamed all of that would go together, but your pic looks like something from a magazine or Young House Love! I just don’t have an eye for decorating/design, I suppose. Super chic & classy….I love the light & airy look with pops of color. And I love your built-in shelves in the kitchen with the Ball jars. I saw that in an earlier post also!
I am in love with the white cabinet in your living room. It’s just perfect!
Hi Kath! Glad you enjoyed the goodies- we love finding fun “foodie” treats, and Philly sure provides a lot of them. It was great meeting you and we’ll definitely be making our way back to Charlottesville at some point in the future. We also directed many people over to Great Harvest
Enjoy the new home- it’s beautiful!
Julianne (& Alyssa)
Beautiful house – congrats again on the purchase!!
That handy built in looks so cute – perhaps a wood bar should be in place, to avoid accidents!
I love the shelves with the jars! I noticed them in the last post and was too jealous to comment
I LOVE your living room. The colors and furniture all work together perfectly!
I’m loving the colours of your new home!! And I totally love your furniture. It already all seems so homey.
Drunken goat is my FAVORITE! A couple of weeks ago I made a sandwich with drunken goat, figs and cashew butter…to die for:http://sopranointherealworld.blogspot.com/2011/09/epic-sandwich.html
It’s just the right amount of mild/creamy/tangy.
The colors you’ve chosen for the house are so pretty. My dining room is gray too and I love it because it makes it so cozy.
Hopefully you’ll be able to really start enjoying the house once the unpacking is done!
I love those shelves where you keep your ball jars, so convenient and cute!
And I love love the look and color combo of the black and white furniture in the blue room…I hope you’re using those pieces in that room because it looks fab! And I noticed too it seems you have a lot more natural light in this house, love it!
I just LOVE those green upholstered chairs!!!
wish i could put more stuff on open shelves in my kitchen but w earthquakes it’s just not realistic – although i guess…you may have a similar issue now?!?
The built in shelf looks so good, very handy/tidy!
Looks like you caught a second wind as the day wore on! Btw, I love, love, love the GH granolas! I was expecting the Groovy Granola to be drier but nope! Both Cville and Groovy are chewy, in their own yummy ways! Thank you to everyone that worked so hard to share this experience. When I opened up the box, I felt like I had two celebrities on my counter! hahaha
All of your things look great with the paint color in the living room!
Your new home is so beautiful! Glad that you have some bright lighting! …. So beautiful!!!
KATH! The house looks amazing! I once bought a whole line up from that vinegar company – fig, tomato, passion fruit, and mango!!! I love it on salads and sauces. Oh, and I picked up some Moose Drool on your recommendation while in Fort Collins (after visiting Ashley!).
You are fast at unpacking. It takes me so long to get things going.
I’ll be waiting by my mailbox for an invite to the tasting of the pumpkin beer batch!!
I am in love with your living room! The light blue paired with the black and white furniture looks gorgeous!
I’ve never considered myself a home/renovator/decorator-type person, but BUILT-IN SHELVES. That’s awesome.
Everything looks so great! I am loving these pictures
Your furniture is so gorgeous! Where do you shop for furniture?
The white pieces are Crate + Barrel (my favorite furniture store) as is our dining room set.
Our living room future was all hand-me-downs from Karen and the green chairs were my grandmothers that I had re ulphostered.
Our bedroom set is from World Market and we got everything 40% off!
I like the built-in shelves too! Very convenient.
I LOVE that shade of blue in the living room. I am always nervous about having a color that isn’t neutral in the main living space, but it looks really great, especially w/ your furniture!
Congrats on your new home, m’dear. It looks awesome!
Jealous of those built-in shelves. If you’re looking to cut down on furniture upstairs, I’d stick with the sofa & the 2 green chairs up there, and move the 2 black & white ones down… While they’re all beautiful (of course), if you only had the black & whites in the room with the sofa, it might seem too matchy. The bright greens really pop in that sunny room…
That’s essentially what I did! You’re right, it looks much better not so matched. I think that’s why has always bothered me about the black and white set! I left one of the chairs up there but took the other downstairs
Your furniture just pop in that robin’s egg blue room…what a perfect choice, Kath! Sleep well!
I will always admire your organizational skills~no doubt about it! And that is so sweet of the twins!! That is tooootally foodie fun.
Oh your jars look so good right there. Enjoy them while you can before (one day!) you have a crawling baby. My mind is automatically goes to…babyproofing and is it kid-friendly
Seriously though, the living room looks amazing and i love the robin’s egg blue. So pretty!!!
Haha – clearly that’s not on my radar yet!
Love the jars…but those will be the first thing to to when there is a Baby Kerf running around:-) Enjoy it while you can.
That built in shelf is so super cute, love it! The house is looking great so far, congrats again!
love that ball jar nook…i just love all the nooks and crannies in older homes!
The rooms in both houses look so immaculate, I noticed no radiators or baseboard heat running along the walls. What is the heating system? Love the way nothing breaks the clean lines. As always your style is spot on. You could make S***t shine.
There are baseboard vents – it’s gas central air – I think!?
ah moving in is so much work! but I love that first room with the mis-matched furniture! I’m a big fan of finding items, rather than buying one big set!
i love your furniture! and those shelves are so cute. i can not wait till i own a house and can make it my own. i am not very crafty and don’t really have an eye for decorating, i wish i did though.
gosh what a cute house. how exciting <3
Your place looks great!
Love the furniture and built in shelves – how fun!
I love unplanned workouts like climbing the stairs all day! I just think it’s great to look back and think “man, I really worked out today”… makes me wish I didn’t sit at a desk all day long.
You’re right about the dining room color – I love it! Sure makes the bright colors of the veggies pop even more!
LOVE the shelves Kath… and all the light in your new kitchen!
How did you acquire those cookies??? Did you make them???? I love Emily’s coco chip cookie recipe!
I hpe you have a relaxing night!
Crunchy Kim made them for me from Emily’s recipe
The build in shelves are so cute! Great use of space.
It seems whenever I move, no matter how much I plan, nothing goes in the right room and it is a constant moving of boxes while unpacking. Good Luck making your new home – your home!
Your pictures look fantastic! Don’t stress too much. Everything will fall into place soon enough.
Decor looks SUPER cute so far– going for the pottery barn like style?
I agree with most of the comments here. I like the built-in shelves too. It’s a nice idea to place it at the side of the gas range. Very accessible. Like it so much!
Your new place is looking so nice and homey
the new house is looking lovely! but I also really liked (well, at least the pictures
) of your old home.
hope you are getting on ok!
looooove your new home and the colors, good job! Congrats to you both, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!
DeBruno Brothers! What a wonderful shop! They have amazing cheeses – and are VERY knowledgeable/friendly/helpful! Will have to try the drunken goat next time! We had a blue and cheddar last time and they were divine!
Love the shelves, perfect for jars. They are also the perfect height for kids who like to help in the kitchen, I know my kids would love them. I can see your little KERF kids helping you in the kitchen, the jars may just be replaced with toys until they are at the helping age! Have fun in your new kitchen and the rest of the house. I’m off to measure an area in our kitchen that I have actually been wondering if I can build some sort of shelves or rack for jars or cookbooks. Thanks for the inspiration!
I love that built in shelf! It looks great! Your living room looks like it could be in the pages of a magazine!
Wow, love your furniture, the color schemes, and the shelf is perfect for your ball jars… Everything looks so homey and comfortable!
The built in shelves + Ball jars=adorable!
the blue living room walls are fabulous!
That shelf is perfect! I would LOVE to have all of those jars of grains!
That gray backdrop is so glamorous looking!
jesus your house is GORG
