The Snow Lay On The Ground

February 20, 2012

Snow day!!!!

IMG_6431 (590x393)

But not so fun since we have plans to go shopping this morning. Cville has it worse than we did, and the bakery is actually closed today! The roads were too bad at 3am for our bakers to drive in (and one was without power!)

IMG_6432 (590x393)

Déjà vu breakfast! Bills says hello from her usual spot

IMG_6438 (590x393)

IMG_6437 (590x393)

I feasted on cereal [bran flakes and cheerios] with strawberries and banana, raisins, cinnamon and Nuttzo.

IMG_6435 (393x590)

Plus the usual cup of tea. I found an Earl Grey, which my mom hates (she ONLY likes Lipton!), but it pleased me!

IMG_6439 (590x393)

Larbs has today off for the holiday too, so we’re meeting her at the mall in a bit. I won’t be heading to my regular stores this time because I’m bound to grow out of anything in a few weeks. We’ll be checking into the maternity stores!

I’ve been wearing maternity jeans full time for a two weeks now. Not because my old pants won’t button, but because they won’t button comfortably and the Beband was just too shifty. I bought one pair at Kohl’s and LOVE them – even more than I used to love my regular jeans! They have a low dark blue band that doesn’t mean I have yards of fabric around my waist before I need it.

[11 weeks in the maternity jeans!]

11 weeks

I feel like everyone fights admitting that their belly has grown this early and the need for maternity jeans, but my advice it to buy one pair as soon as your regular jeans feel the slightly bit uncomfortable! You know you’ll need them eventually…

I’m going to have to pop in with a phone post mid-day because my computer is kaput. I can’t import any photos and that’s essential to what I do!

2 Molly @ RDexposed February 20, 2012 at 9:07 am

That cat looks like all other cats. What cat doesn’t look like it’s plotting something?

3 Kaila @healthyhelperblog! February 20, 2012 at 9:08 am

I have the day off too! But not because of the snow! Thank god! I can’t stand snow…. lol!!

4 Kerry February 20, 2012 at 9:08 am

You look great! You would hardly know they were maternity jeans

5 KathEats February 20, 2012 at 9:09 am

Yet if you saw me in my old jeans, you could tell how much thicker I am : )

6 Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries February 20, 2012 at 9:10 am

7 Jen February 20, 2012 at 9:11 am

YAY for Maternity jeans! I loved mine!

8 Krissy @ Shiawase Life February 20, 2012 at 9:11 am

The roads are totally clear now and the sun’s out! I don’t think this snow’s gonna last very long…

9 The Mrs @ Success Along the Weigh February 20, 2012 at 9:11 am

So jealous of your snow. We’re getting NOTHING this year and the snow shoes and ski’s are mad at us. I hope you enjoy your day!

10 Rachel February 20, 2012 at 9:12 am

got some snow in chapel hill too, but sadly they didn’t cancel classes! have fun shopping today :)

11 Ashley @ coffee cake and cardio February 20, 2012 at 9:12 am

So cute! Enjoy the snow day! Dc is jealous.

12 Khushboo February 20, 2012 at 9:12 am

I’m kinda jealous of all that snow- it’s gotten SO hot over here…the air con is on full blast!

13 Kinley @ Better Off Barefoot February 20, 2012 at 9:13 am

I wish we would get more snow days in WI… it seems to take about 20″ plus something to get work to close for the day ;) Have fun shopping!!

14 Emily @ Perfection Isn't Happy February 20, 2012 at 9:15 am

Cute jeans! You look great!

15 Danielle February 20, 2012 at 9:19 am

I’m so jealous of your snow! It’s hardly felt like winter around here.

In other news, CONGRATULATIONS on your growing family! Please excuse my delay :)

16 Katie February 20, 2012 at 9:22 am

Definitely embrace the maternity jeans, they are definitely more comfortable than trying to feel comfortable in your regular jeans that are not designed for pregnant bodies. I gained right at 20 lbs while my arms and legs didn’t change in size much my body spread and expanded so I agree that maternity clothes are necessary even early on and you the truth is most women wear them post-delivery for a period of time. At least they are making maternity clothes a lot more stylish and a lot of the regular styles like the tunics and longer, flowy tops and leggings are flattering and comfortable for pregnant women. Warmer weather will be here soon which I found helped as well. When is your due date again? It is raining here in Nebraska with the possibility for a little snow. I’m ready for spring!

17 KathEats February 20, 2012 at 9:23 am

Very end of August!

18 Katie February 20, 2012 at 9:33 am

I was also going to mention that I love the slightest little baby bump in the picture. It’s amazing to picture a tiny little person hanging out in there! Once again you are glowing, hope you are feeling well. Enjoy your shopping, hope you find lots of fun stuff!

19 KathEats February 20, 2012 at 9:34 am

:) And it’s crazy to hear the heartbeat and REALLY know there’s something in there!

20 Katie February 20, 2012 at 3:25 pm

It is crazy to know that there is someone inside of you that is developing his or her physical characteristics and personality while depending on you every second. I remember feeling such a strong connection to each of my kids before they were born. Just wait until you hear their first cries, first words (mama) of course, first bad words, so many firsts to look forward to! Right now we are onto the preschool/kindergarten, sports/activity related first. I love listening to my 5 and 6 year olds read to me and playing board games with them is so much fun. Right now my two are pretending they are on the beach, wishful thinking since it is in the 30s, raining and windy.

21 Meghan February 20, 2012 at 9:22 am

I hate my maternity jeans with the full panel and much prefer the ones with the low band. I have a pair from the gap and they are super comfy.

22 Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) February 20, 2012 at 9:23 am

You look adorable! I too say go for the comfort! I remember that my pants would hook early in the day, but I would hate having anything on them tight by the end of the day. Definitely go for comfort! Enjoy your day Kath!

23 Chris February 20, 2012 at 9:27 am

Sweeping snow off car and running to Kohl’s for preggy jeans for Jess! We love your blog Kath :-))

24 KathEats February 20, 2012 at 9:28 am

Haha! I got the brand Oh Baby by Motherhood in petite (because of my height) and would have bought more if they had HAD any more in my size! Hope I didn’t wipe the store out :)

25 Chris February 20, 2012 at 9:38 am

She is pretty much in scrubs when working, so this sounds perfect. Thanks I didn’t even know Kohl’s had maternity, thought it was just Target around here!

26 Erin February 20, 2012 at 4:18 pm

I had the same ones, and unfortunately gave them away when I thought I wouldn’t have any more babies. And now we’re thinking of #2. Anyway, mine had the full panel and I just folded it down until I needed it. I also made the mistake of buying some Old Navy maternity pants with just the adjustable waist, and no elastic panel. They are great for the first few months, but when that belly gets heavy, that panel is soooo much more comfortable!

27 Jana @ Newly Wife Healthy Life February 20, 2012 at 9:27 am

You look so cute Kath! I am happy to see your embracing the growth and need for maternity jeans :-) better for your mind, soul, and body to feel comfy instead of squeezed!

28 Jodi @ Jodi, Fat or Not February 20, 2012 at 9:32 am

Holy snow! I’m a little jealous…we barely got any this winter!

29 Maria February 20, 2012 at 9:34 am

Cute jeans! But I hear those Demi panel can become very uncomfortable as your belly starts to grow.

30 KathEats February 20, 2012 at 9:35 am

I already believe it, but I’ve also already gotten my money’s worth as I wear them everyday!

31 Allison K February 20, 2012 at 9:56 am

This is exactly how I experienced it too! Jeans were uncomfortable right away. HATED the beband. Demi panel was ok until about 20 weeks…then awful with how my belly was shaped! Fortunately I only bought 2 pairs with the demi panel.
Its funny…at 29.5 weeks I can hardly remember when my full panel jeans felt like yards of fabric…now I love them.

32 Katie @ Peace Love & Oats February 20, 2012 at 9:40 am

All your posts are making me wish I could eat Joe’s Os or Cheerios!!! I’ve tried some gluten free cereal but it’s just not the same…

33 Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table February 20, 2012 at 9:45 am

I know a lot of women that were sad they no long had an excuse to wear maternity jean after having the baby – apparently they’re comfy!

34 Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles February 20, 2012 at 9:51 am

Family Day here in Ontario, Canada. Too mild to go skating on the Rideau Canal today…can you believe it…so sad! Skiing yesterday was springlike…we need some of your snow!

35 Amanda February 20, 2012 at 10:28 am

Susan! I’m here in Ontario too (Ottawa)…though working because I’m Federal Government. I had to kind of laugh at this post…snow day?! That’s a piddly dusting for us. Try 20cm in a morning! :)

36 Shannon February 20, 2012 at 9:55 am

Love seeing the pics of Lillis :)

37 Ash Bear February 20, 2012 at 10:03 am

I can’t believe you all have snow and it’s supposed to be 60 degrees in NYC this week! I’m really craving some good old fashion winter but feel as if that is a hopeless battle! Your jeans look adorable!

38 Cait's Plate February 20, 2012 at 10:11 am

Love the belly shot! And I can’t believe you guys got snow! What’s going on! I’m in the Northeast and we don’t have a drop (not that I’m complaining!).

39 Kerry @ Totes My Oats February 20, 2012 at 10:20 am

You look so great and happy!

40 Lindsay @ Running the Windy City February 20, 2012 at 10:23 am

I love snow days :) It’s crazy that the south got hit with snow and its supposed to be 45 degrees in Chicago. What weird weather we’ve been having this winter!

Enjoy your shopping!

41 Blessing @ Working Mom Journal February 20, 2012 at 10:25 am

You definitely look amazing in those jeans. I am still not able to eat my cereal with milk and strawberry, it just doesn’t feel right

42 Anna @ On Anna's Plate February 20, 2012 at 10:27 am

I agree!!! I started wearing maternity jeans around 13 weeks, and they were the damn most comfortable jeans I’d ever put on!! Even if you aren’t “showing” yet, you’re usually bloated and “fuller” in the belly area– that elastic waistband just felt SO comfortable, even that early in the pregnancy!

Gap has some really comfy maternity jeans if you want another pair!

43 Lindsay February 20, 2012 at 10:36 am

I started out with Old Navy (elastic waist) Jeggings that up until last week were fitting okay- now my belly is a little too big for them but they were great and I still plan on wearing them with my Belly Band because they fit great in the legs. I however did invest in a pair of maternity jeans from Old Navy that I love that are full panel and I have a pair of black and kahki maternity pants that are just the band from Gap that are great as well.

44 Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat February 20, 2012 at 10:39 am

Wow, it seems like just as our snow starts to melt, you guys get hit with tons! You look great in your maternity wear Kath. I think I’ll be all about those maternity jeans when I eventually decided to have kiddies! :) Happy snow day!

45 Alison February 20, 2012 at 10:46 am

I totally agree about the jeans (which look great btw!)…I waited and waited worried that I’d have to buy more than one pair but I’m still very comfortable…and I’m almost sad I won’t have a reason to wear them anymore in a couple months. :( (she’s due in 3 weeks but I’m going to savor these jeans as long as humanly possible) Mine are from GAP so if you need another brand to try, head that way. Their maternity jeans are true to sizes of their regular jeans so it made shopping VERY easy. :)

46 Sarah@The Flying ONION February 20, 2012 at 11:03 am

The jeans are so flattering, you’d never guess they were maternity jeans! Such a cute picture. :D

47 Kelly @ Foodie Fiasco February 20, 2012 at 11:05 am

You are absolutely glowing, Kath! I am so happy for you. ;)

48 Liz @ Tip Top Shape February 20, 2012 at 11:13 am

All that snow is crazy!!

49 Angel7 February 20, 2012 at 11:19 am

I bought a pair of maternity jeans last week, and they have a thick elastic band around the waist. I love it, because even though I am not that big, it is sooo comfortable–probably the most comfortable jeans I own.

50 Stacy K. February 20, 2012 at 11:23 am

I’m not even showing yet, but I think it’s the early pregnancy bloat that’s making me want to run to the store and buy a pair of maternity pants. I can’t wait for my first appointment to hear the heartbeat, on days when I’m feeling really great it’s hard to tell if things are still healthy and moving in there although I don’t want to wish nausea on myself, but a little reassurance would be nice :)

When will BERF be launching? I’m so excited to trail behind your journey.

51 KathEats February 20, 2012 at 4:03 pm

Congrats to you! Good luck with the heartbeat :)

BERF is hopefully coming on Friday!

52 Jacqueline February 20, 2012 at 11:42 am

I actually lost weight the first 10 weeks. I was tiny and kept losing weight even though all I was eating was penne bolognese and chocolate pecan cookies. That’s literally all I could eat everything else was gross. I also had to buy SMALLER jeans! Best diet ever! hahaha

53 Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count February 20, 2012 at 11:54 am

So frustrating when you can’t post as you like to. I need a phone that will allow me to post!

54 Donna February 20, 2012 at 11:55 am

how scary that it’s snowing down there–and you were just BBQing recently! global warming is really making its effects known.

55 Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga February 20, 2012 at 11:56 am

Glad to hear you found jeans that are comfortable and you like. That’s KEY! I was in the in-between pants and maternity pants forever…neither one fit well. Glad you found your solution early on!

56 Lauren @ What Lauren Likes February 20, 2012 at 12:11 pm

So cute! Jealous of the snow you guys got :D

57 Lizzie February 20, 2012 at 12:21 pm

Is it good with pb on cereal with milk??? interesting! do you mix it all together or whaaat?

ohh and when is your other blog starting!?

58 Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) February 20, 2012 at 12:44 pm

love love love the maternity picture. Can’t wait for the baby blog!

59 Karen February 20, 2012 at 12:59 pm

The fact that a few inches of snow is causing a city-wide shut down is funny to this born and bread Chicagoan :)

I’m envious of your excuse to wear those comfy looking jeans. I am wondering if being NPOB (non-pregnant, otherwise bloated) a valid excuse to run to Kohl’s for my very own pair? :)

Gosh…you are wearing pregnancy well, Kath!

60 Karen February 20, 2012 at 12:59 pm

61 Katie @ Talk Less, Say More February 20, 2012 at 1:08 pm

I’m looking forward to reading BERF!
And that bowl of cereal looks pretty good. I may have to have breakfast for lunch… ;)

62 Heather H @ Run Eat Play February 20, 2012 at 1:11 pm

I’m a little behind but congrats!! Love the jeans! My sister in law is pregnant and due about the same time you are. They sent us a recording of the baby’s heartbeat – isn’t it amazing!!!

63 Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife February 20, 2012 at 1:13 pm

Whoa!! Snow! That is exciting (and kinda annoying) but oh so pretty.

64 Angela @ Happy Fit Mama February 20, 2012 at 1:14 pm

I remember shopping for my first maternity clothes. I really wasn’t showing so I thought the sales people would think I was strange for shopping in a maternity store.

I lived in my pre-pregnancy skirts that had elastic waists near the end of my pregnancy. It was the beginning of summer so I didn’t want a lot of clothing on. Plus, I didn’t want to buy more maternity clothes.

65 Ellie@Fit for the Soul February 20, 2012 at 1:26 pm

ohhh that’s a great idea about the elastic skirts! Plus, it sounds stylish too.

66 Ellie@Fit for the Soul February 20, 2012 at 1:25 pm

oh mannnn~And I thought I was freezing cold last night! (well it was like 40 something deg.) :P I hope you guys stay safe and warm out there! And how cool!~~~I bet it’s pretty exciting to shop around for mommy outfits! Those jeans look pretty and chic! ;)

67 TeenyLittleSuperChef February 20, 2012 at 2:03 pm

If you hadn’t told us, I would never have guessed that you were pregnant. Your tummy is still so flat! You look adorable, by the way, and you have a nice little glow to you. I think pregnancy suits you :) Is Billy your parents cat? How old is he/she? I love that little face. I just want to pinch it. I hope you have a fun day playing in the snow!

68 KathEats February 20, 2012 at 4:04 pm

Thanks :)

Lillian is a she and she’s 17 and spunky!

69 Emily @LivingLongfellow February 20, 2012 at 2:03 pm

AHhh! you’re temping us with the prego pics. So excited for Berf to boot up! I thought that would be released this morning being a Monday morning and all.

70 Jamie C. February 20, 2012 at 2:30 pm

Hey Kath…. if you have extra time, a gal I know (who has a blog) just had a baby and posted some of her favorites and not so favorite baby things on her blog. Here’s the link and check it out on Feb 7th. Their are some really good ideas I would never have thought of. : ) Happy baby bump!!!

71 KathEats February 20, 2012 at 4:04 pm

Thanks! I love reading those posts and new mom blogs!

It was so nice to meet you in Ulta today.
Sorry if I seemed nervous :) I was just totally surprised!
Love your blog! <3

You too Sarah!!! Thanks for saying hi :) It’s so fun to put names to faces!

haha that snow is nothing compared to what we get in canada!!

loving all the latest baby posts ! keep up the great work

77 Joss February 20, 2012 at 3:39 pm

It is a dusting eh!? lol

78 Lisa (bakebikeblog) February 20, 2012 at 3:26 pm

I completely agree re feeling thicker! I felt that very eary on during this pregnancy – and most certainly went in search of maternity jeans early!

79 Joss February 20, 2012 at 3:38 pm

lol awww snow day …to us that would just be a sprinkling (ontario canada)

for things to be cancelled we pretty much have to have snow to our knees lol But that’s just because we are very prepared in snow situations :D

80 Brittnie (A Joy Renewed) February 20, 2012 at 5:31 pm

They sell maternity clothes at Kohls??? I had no idea. I agree w/ you about the jeans – I bought my first pair right when things got snug and it was so much better! Plus I had a pair of jeans once I really needed them!

81 Sarah February 20, 2012 at 6:27 pm

You’re making me want cereal now!

That’s so crazy that you have snow, we don’t have any here up north in NYC. Hope you enjoyed the snow day :)

82 Melissa February 20, 2012 at 9:26 pm

I used the same pair of maternity jeans for all three of my kids. let’s you print sweatpants with ‘baby on board’ and your due date. The products are American apparel brand and totally great.
