This afternoon I visited Whole Foods Cville in all its new glory. Love that place. I put some crazy things in my cart!
Like popsicles!! It felt so warm that when I walked by they said summertime. What was I thinking!? These were Edy’s Fruity ones and they are petite enough to make a nice snack paired with some almonds or perhaps a taste of whole grain bread from the Great Harvest bread board.
‘Cause that was my next stop. I missed the shop while we were gone!! Sounds like everyone did a fantastic job holding down the fort – and sales for the weekend confirmed that.
Dinner tonight was easy because dear, sweet Karen brought over a tupperware full of her famous chili!
I was planning to make cornbread on the side and when I opened the fridge I saw she had brought that too!
Not sure which recipe this was (likely Trader Joe’s from a box which is all of our favorite flavor) but I will ask – this was darn good cornbread!
Karen’s chili is perfectly seasoned and I realized why when I looked at the recipe page again – she doesn’t dump in lots of chili powder and over season it like I do. The real food does the talking here.
To sip I had Kool Aid Merlot Honest Tea I picked up at WF!
Matt and I wrapped up the night with 30 Rock + The Office. Glad shows are back!! It’s the only bad thing about the holiday season.

Awww, Karen seems like the sweetest Mother-in-law ever!!! (And a good cook too!)
Popsicles..haven’t had one in ages. I did make a smoothie last week that tastes just like an Orange PushUp and froze that and sort of make-shifted popsicles out of it. But it got cold here again! It’s more like hot chocolate weather than Popsicle weather
I never got into “The Office” . I think my problem stems from a lack of time mostly…man, you are wrong with popsicle, I saw that and screamed.
hahahahhaah I’m imagining the scream!!
That meal looks so delicious! Perfect warming, home-cooked meal!
I’m all about recipes like that – ones that aren’t too seasoned, so the food can speak for itself.
Can’t believe it’s Popsicle weather by you. As Averie said, it’s hot chocolate weather here too!
I can’t believe it’s popsicle weather in January! I could have used one today. What kills me is the 70* weather and then the next days low is 28*. I mean seriously!?
Back to normal, again. Doesn’t seem like you missed a beat. I need to get to Whole Foods too, it has been awhile. They just have the most interesting selections.
Oh man. It’s been so long since I’ve had cornbread. Must. Make. Immediately! Yum.
Haha I wish someone would bring me chili! I’m sure it was delicious! and I LOVE the office!!! Always, always funny. love them.
I too am so excited that shows are back. I’m going to add this recipe to my bookmark bar (my version of Pinetrest) for an upcoming evening.
Nothing beats cornbread and chili!!
Hmmm I had chili tonight to for dinner! Perfect for chilly nights! Haha
Chili and cornbread sounds so good. I had oats at work for dinner tonight. My butt is in the kitchen tomorrow. I need some hot chow big time. Have a great night Kath!
I LOVE the TJ’s boxed corn bread! Makes me never want to try to make it from scratch again!
Oh that chili and cornbread sound and look so good right now. I’m trapped in a hotel room with no food and I ate dinner at 4:45 so I’m pretty much starving right now.
oh no… Now Kool Aid sounds delicious!… I grew up drinking it.
cornbread is the best complement to chili! So warming and a great comfort food!
Drool fest over here. Chili and melty cheese? I just got done teaching a 90 min hot yoga class and could def go for some of THAT!
mmm chili!!! Looks great Kath!
Cornbread and chili–sounds like a perfect night to me!!
I have to try making Karen’s chili sometime, sounds delish! Wish we had a Whole Foods nearby. :’( We have some smaller stores that are similar; they’ll do for now.
The thought of that Popsicle is giving me goosebumps! (it’s not making me say “oh yeah!” like Kevin hahaha)
hahahhaha. “Ohhhh yeahhhh”
Why is it always so entertaining, to me, the folks I see at the meat counter at Whole Foods. Never can I bring myself to actually purchase meat products there however I do believe that I sleep better at night knowing that others are attempting to purchase locally sources animal products…do you know the lady and her boy who you captured in front of the Whole Foods bakery counter? It’s always been my experience that there are some pretty attractive clerks at the fish counter…weird, I know I am
That photo is actually in Great Harvest Bread Co (which I own!)
Have you (or Karen) ever tried to spice up the TJ’s brand cornbread? I bought some this weekend, along with a can of diced green chiles (to go with my own chili), but I’m not sure how much to use. Wondering if the whole (small) can will be overpowering…
I haven’t, but I bet it would be good. I love the mix because it’s slightly sweet
Popsicles are so fun- always reminds me of being a kid!
I wish I came home and found dinner waiting for me in my fridge that someone else cooked. haha! that’s so sweet of Karen! How is she doing?
She’s great! Thanks
that is so sweet she brought you dinner!
I always overseason my chili…guilty offender right here!
Me too
Popsicles and Chili…summer and winter…just about sums up our winter thus far! Chili and corn bread look awesome! As we seem to be in a cold spell…Chili sounds good about now!
I’ve been catching up on The Office lately!
That is so sweet of Karen to bring over chili and cornbread for dinner!
Definitely need to check out the cornbread at Trader Joe’s. I’m always looking for great tasting cornbread.
I love 30 Rock! I am so glad it is back. I secretly want to be Liz Lemon!
Have you read Tina’s book? So good!
Mmmm, chili and cornbread. You guys lucked out coming home to the perfect wintertime meal!
I do love the office, but the current season is a bit sucky. Last episode at the gay bar made me laugh a lot, but then I was a bit wistful for the better seasons past!
What did you think of The Office? There have been a couple of good episodes but overall we have been disappointed with the new season. I’ve heard that 30 Rock and Parks & Rec are good but haven’t started watching either. Glad to hear things went well at GH while you were gone. We enjoyed some Asiago Pesto and Honey Whole Wheat here. Our local GH has a full time position open, wish it worked with my schedule, I would love to work there. Actually, I would love to just open up my own GH! If only it were that easy!
I’ve been happy overall, but life without Michael just isn’t the same
Popsicles remind me of summer! Oh, how I miss summer.
I’ve only watched old episodes of The Office on TBS, but it’s funny!
I love Whole Foods. It never gets old does it?
Yum! Chili and cornbread=perfect comfort food deliciousness!
Oh! I forgot 30 Rock is back on again- I missed the episode last week and will have to catch it on Hulu. Thanks for the reminder!
The CVille Whole Foods is awesome- I think I visited it twice in the two days that I was there.
Mmmmm popcicles! We go to WF but it’s a bit of a hike…wish we had one closer — I’d be there all the time! Chili sounds good for tonight since it’s dropping below freezing!!! Brrrrrrr :/
Soooo happy the shows are back! Makes nights much more interesting
Getting much too chilly over here for frozen treats now, but for awhile there, the weather felt awfully summery!
I wish that we had a Whole Foods Market nearby!

Cornbread is my weakness. Thank goodness I’m not too close to TJ’s
Doesn’t get much better than comfort food, except when someone else makes it for you! I’ve never tried the TJ’s corn bread- is it a mix and just add wet ingredients? I love their other mixes so I’m sure it’d tasty!
