The Mix Of Red + Blue

June 9, 2012

I am beyond exhausted – but because it was a jam-packed day!! From speaking to speaking, I’m losing my voice!

This afternoon I went to a session and accompanied Emily, Cullen and Lacey on a quick trip to Starbucks

Followed by a long walk with Tina and Monica to the 5 Bamboo HQ!

I love all of their clothing – so soft and cool – but this shirt is by FAR my favorite ever – coming very soon to OpenSky, an “I Eat Real Food” shirt (with KERF on the back!) I pink + grey. So excited to wear it!

We had fun chatting with the Five Bamboo team and especially meeting their mascot, Ruhki, who was like a little human!

Our total trip was just about 3 miles, but when I returned, I crashed. For about 10 minutes. Just watching the baby move –

But I couldn’t relax too long because Amie was calling my name with the lure of cheese + crackers!

She had a plethora of Organic Valley goodies – including that delicious cheese – plus some amazing cookies from Saint Cupcake Bakery here in Seattle. I tried a bite of the Smoked Cookie (campfire meets bacon and chocolate!) plus a traditional chocolate chip – great snack!

After cocktail hour, I headed across the street to meet BethT and Helen Jane from Federated Media for dinner at the Purple Café.

We shared a beautiful and wonderful meal with several other bloggers

Including Gina of Skinny Taste and fellow RD Heather, The Diet P.I.

Small plates were passed around

But the show-stopper was my Copper River King salmon served over tomato couscous and swiss card with candied fennel on top – heavenly and SO good!!! Sadly I could only fit half of this inside, but it was tasty through every bite!

My evening concluded in the loft of the Purple Café with a lovely soirée put on by Stonyfield.

We chatted and mingled for an hour. Others sipped amazing smelling red wines, while I guzzled water for my fading voice box.

Amelia and I concluded the evening by each giving a short talk on what it means to us to “know our food.” I touched on my journey of learning about real food to reading books like Michael Pollan’s to moving to Cville, touring Polyface and growing vegetables that we eat for dinner. Followed by some favorite ways I love to eat greek yogurt (Guacamole Crème was mentioned!)

Thankfully the hotel was just across the street and I’m probably already asleep as I write the last lines of this post…zzzzzz.

Cannot even imagine how exhausted you are! At least the food looks amazing and all the pics of the bloggers you’re hanging out with and meeting…so fun!

3 Leslie June 9, 2012 at 2:31 am

Sounds amazing! Enjoy!

4 Elisabeth June 9, 2012 at 2:40 am

So fun that you got to hang out for a bit with Emily & Cullen! Oh, and the new shirt is so cute :)

5 Lizzi June 9, 2012 at 3:53 am

You know how exciting it is when.. like… your two favourite musicians collaborate? Or one of your fave authors reveals that they’re working with THE BEST ACTOR EVER to write a new movie? THAT’S how I feel when I see a bunch of my favourite bloggers all in the one place! hahah.

Oh, and everything looks SO delicious… that collage photo of the cookies, cheese, and granola (tempted to call it ‘cereal’ to make it THE ULTIMATE TRIFECTA OF Cs :P) is the food equivalent of all my favourite bloggers in one photo! Oh, and whatever this is has got me drooling – some kind of baked cheese..??

Enjoy the rest of your trip! :)

Baked brie – yes!

7 Leatitia @ The Sweetest Year June 9, 2012 at 4:58 am

Wow… Like you said, that’s a jam packed day! I’m glad to hear you had fun tasting all the food though!

Were you able to sleep well to tackle another conference day? You’re a brave pregnant lady!

I had salmon served over israeli couscous and greens (mine was kale) last night too at a restaurant in Atlanta. It looked exactly like your dinner!

Rukhi is a cutie. All places should have a dog mascot, I think.

9 Katie @ Peace Love & Oats June 9, 2012 at 6:04 am

sounds like a fun and exhausting day! I hope you got some sleep!

10 Karen June 9, 2012 at 6:23 am

I really dig that real food t-shirt…excited indeed! :)

Hope your insomnia streak was broken last night…on the occasions that I slip into that same pattern, mine tend to last a few consecutive nights as well. Have fun; feel good!

11 Emily @ Life on Food June 9, 2012 at 6:45 am

The same looks so lovely. I have a few dresses from 5 Bamboo. They are so comfy. You can dress them down or up.

12 kristen @ verbs and vignettes June 9, 2012 at 6:49 am

love five bamboo. :-) I could wear their skirt as pajamas. so nice that you get to catch up with so many people there! the conferences look exhausting, but so fun. take care of that voice!

13 Kim @ Spoonful of Sass June 9, 2012 at 7:13 am

Wow you did have a jam packed day! All that food looks delicious! Your taste buds must be in overload!!!

14 chris June 9, 2012 at 7:23 am

You look radiant and not tired at all, but I happen to know you have officially entered your third trimester. So try to rest a little in the the midst of all the fun…any tips for people who may fear public speaking?

15 Lauren N. June 9, 2012 at 7:37 am

Looks like you’re having a great time! I love the KERF shirt!!! Can’t wait to order one :)

16 Liz @ Tip Top Shape June 9, 2012 at 7:52 am

17 Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles June 9, 2012 at 8:35 am

Wow! What a day! The food all looks terrific…especially that salmon! What fun it must be for you to be surrounded by it all!

18 Christie Ellis {Pepper Lynn} June 9, 2012 at 8:40 am

You did a great job speaking at Purple despite your exhaustion and fading voice. Way to go, mama!

19 KathEats June 9, 2012 at 8:41 am

Thanks Christie! See you today!

20 Brittney June 9, 2012 at 8:58 am

Ah, I was in Seattle last month and stayed right near Purple and now I’m kind of regretting I didn’t go now that I am seeing all the delicious food I missed out on in your pictures!! Next time!

21 Erin Motz June 9, 2012 at 9:04 am

I love that dog! Looks like he has so much personality! And the salmon + cookies look deee-licious. Thinking of skipping breakfast and diving in straight to the chocolate this morning 😉

22 Amanda @ flecksofgreen June 9, 2012 at 9:43 am

Very cute shirt design–I love it! I can’t get over how much amazing food is all in one place! That salmon looks to-die-for…enjoy ALL of it!

23 Maria Carolina June 9, 2012 at 10:01 am

My favorite bloggers together! How exciting it must be!

24 Molly @ RDexposed June 9, 2012 at 10:03 am

Fennel AND salmon together?? I need to get on that!

25 Kim June 9, 2012 at 10:11 am

YUMMMMMMM Purple. I recommend it to all of my friends who are travelling to Seattle.

26 Erica June 9, 2012 at 10:14 am

Hope the voice is better! What a fabulous day. Little of this- little of that- always the best! Hope you’re feeling well

27 SkinnyRunner June 9, 2012 at 10:28 am

love the colors pink and grey together. and ive only heard good things about five bamboo gear.

is it sad being around all that wine and cocktailing and not partaking? :)

28 KathEats June 9, 2012 at 10:42 am

Surprisingly not too much – I’m too tired to want to drink : )

29 Katie @ Talk Less, Say More June 9, 2012 at 11:00 am

Love the FiveBamboo shirt. Their stuff is so comfy and cozy, you just never want to take it off! haha!

30 Amy June 9, 2012 at 11:49 am

Saint Cupcake is actually based in Portland, not Seattle! :) One of their two shops is down the street from me.

31 KathEats June 9, 2012 at 11:53 am

Oops! Localish :)

32 Angel7 June 9, 2012 at 11:54 am

I love that 5 Bamboo T-shirt!!! It looks so comfy & soft, which is what anyone would want in a T-shirt, or any clothes for that matter :) Really comfy & soft T-shirts are hard to find, though!

33 Samantha June 9, 2012 at 11:57 am

I’m so jealous! I was planning on dining at Purple Cafe while I was in Seattle, but never ended up going. Now I’m even more sad about it!

34 Lexi @ You, Me, & A World to See June 9, 2012 at 1:33 pm

Hahaha I feel like I’m in a wonderful food coma just reading this! All that founds sounds great, and it definitely sounds like you had a full day on your plate 😉

35 Eileen June 9, 2012 at 2:08 pm

That salmon with the couscous does look amazing! I would have had a hard time putting my fork down. :)

I know you are probably all booked for meals, but if you get a chance, you should totally go up to the International District and try out Phnom Penh Noodle House–the sour soups are just amazing, and the small portions are more than enough.

36 Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count June 9, 2012 at 2:31 pm

Sounds like a great day! You ARE busy!!

37 Julia H. @ Going Gulia June 9, 2012 at 2:35 pm

Saint Cupcake Bakery? LOVE that name! I would buy a cupcake there just because of that haha.

38 Sarah @ Fresh Living June 9, 2012 at 4:17 pm

Love the T shirt – nice work!

39 Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio June 9, 2012 at 4:48 pm

What awesome events!! You ladies really have some amazing partnerships with some great companies!

40 Rachel June 9, 2012 at 6:15 pm

I cannot wait for that shirt to be available on OpenSky! I love it!!!!

I’m jealous of your conference food! I’m a librarian and have attended numerous conferences, and our food is never as nice as yours! Though if I had all those options, especially for breakfast, I think I would eat myself silly!

41 JessE @ LoveLifeFromScratch June 13, 2012 at 12:43 pm

That dog is faaar too adorable! BlogHer looks like a great time. Food + blogging = amazing :)
