Last night I tentatively planned on having a yogurt + cereal bowl for breakfast, but this morning cold milk was calling my name (thirst from my sodium soup!?). I decided on a mix of cereals:

IMG_7136 (800x533)

The mix:

  • About a cup of Oatios
  • About 1/3 cup GoLean Crunch
  • About 1/4 cup Mix  My Granola
  • Medium banana
  • ~3/4 cup soy milk?
  • Sprinkle flax

No coffee because I’m meeting a friend at a coffee shop at 10AM! Can’t wait to get a big cup!! It’s weird how I am obviously addicted to caffeine but I don’t crave it how you would expect. I don’t get jittery or feel sleepy without it, but it’s more of a mental thing – I just WANT some coffee. It’s almost more like a craving for the coffee flavor itself – like a craving for sweet, salty, chocolate – than it is about the caffeine. Weird!

Anyways, I’m excited!

I never feel the effect of coffee. It is so weird! I still love me some pumpkin spice though. :)

Yep, that’s what I ate for breakfast today too, cold milk and cereal :)
Do you get headaches when you don’t drink coffee?

Sometimes cold cereal is the only thing I crave- even in cold weather. Have a great day!

I love cold cereal and it is one of the things about being gluten free that I don’t like. I have tried a few of the cereals available and don’t really like them that much. They are all pretty much void of nutrition and taste. :(

I am totally addicted to coffee! The taste, the act of drinking it, the caffiene, the warmth – everything! I just tried a wonderful tasting pumpkin spice coffee from Great Harvest this morning, too!

Coffee is the same for me… I love it in the morning, but I’m usually fine if I don’t get it. I just like the taste! Which must be why I sometimes enjoy a cup of decaf after dinner too…

I can’t eat just one kind of cereal — it always has to be a mix. Usually I prefer yogurt but sometimes, milk just hits the spot. :)

Some days a good cereal mix just hits the spot!!!!

I’ve been reading your blog for almost a year now and last night you and Matt popped up in my dream! It was the weirdest thing but I guess that means I really do get something out of it!

I can’t tell if I’m addicted to caffeine or not. I seem to get headaches whether I have my cup of tea in the morning or not…

I love the taste of coffee things too. I don’t drink to much because the caffeine affects my stomach. But I love the flavor so I often get decaf.

I love that you mix cereals. I never want cereal because it’s the same taste in every bite. Maybe mixing them would mix it up (pun intended).

I feel the same way you do about coffee. I love it, love the taste and really crave it, but not for the caffeine purposes! Unfortunately, it doesn’t love me that much (I suffer from reflux when I drink too much), but then I back off for a while until things calm down :)

I enjoyed a cold bowl of cereal this morning too! Sometimes it is just a perfect breakfast.

I feel the same way about tea – I love a cup – it is comforting – but I think I can get by without it.

I’m the same with my coffee; I can put it off because I don’t NEED it–so long as I know I’m getting it eventually. I don’t care to fight this addiction/love haha

Yep, I’m the same way about coffee. I gave it up for over a year in 2007-2008 and the one thing I missed wasn’t the caffeine. It was the delicious taste and smell of coffee – rich and roasty.

I also love the act of drinking coffee (love the taste too!)- there’s something comforting about having the warm big cup in the morning, and it takes a lot longer to finish than breakfast itself!

Yummo. I love your big mixed cereal breakfasts. I have been wanting to try one out but it seems that the only “dry” cereal we ever have in the house is Frosted Flakes and Froot Loops for my brother. Ugh. Obviously it’s time to go explore the breakfast isle at Whole Foods! Hahah.

Way to make use of a variety of cereal! I know what you mean regarding the mental fixation with coffee. My whole day just feels completely off if I don’t start it with a proper coffee fix.

Fantastic use of a variety of cereals, I tend to mix my cereals up a bunch too: oat with Kashi and Ezekiel, etc. The flavors mesh together so well!

Do you (or does anyone) heat up milk when they have milk and cereal so it’s like a combo of a warm breakfast and a cold/crunchy one? I don’t drink milk straight so I never do milk and cereal (instead it’s yogurt messes all the way) but for some reason, warm almond milk and cereal sounds really yummy.

42 Joelle (The Pancake Girl) October 30, 2009 at 12:22 pm

Hmm, so those Oatios are good? I was wondering.. i really like that company’s graham crackers- they’re yummy and without any high fructose corn syrup, always a plus. Have a good Friday!

43 Allie (Live Laugh Eat) October 30, 2009 at 12:27 pm

I completely agree! I just love the taste of coffee. Okay, maybe 3% of the time it’s the caffeine I need/want but mostly it’s just the warm bevvy with such rich flavor that I’m lookin’ for! At night, I’ll sometimes brew some decaf :)

PS I love your changing pics in the sidebar!

Your thoughts on coffee remind me of smokers talking about the ritual of smoking. Good thing caffeine doesn’t kill you! (unless you drink a RIDICULOUS amount). I totally have a ritual of tea in the morning when I’m at work, but don’t need it when I’m at home. Strange, huh?

help! can you use regualar ground coffee (like you buy at the store) and be successful with a french press or does it really need to be something special?

Reply

47 Kath October 30, 2009 at 2:03 pm

Diana,
Yes I do :( More like shoulder aches

nicole,
Haha. I guess that means I’ve made it!

Hallie,
I’ve done that before, but I don’t think it’s quite as good for some reason.

Joelle,
They are not my favorite…

Chelsea,
Good point. It is all about the ritual!

jenn,
Yes, you can use regular ground coffee. Coarsely ground is recommended, but I use all kinds.
