Last night, our dining room got a facelift.
Say hello to our new green apple light!! After much debate between safe neutral colors and wacky patterns, we decided to go with a bold color in a safe solid pattern. My other light requirements were at least 2 bulbs 100 watts each and a diffuser on the bottom (since this is where most of my dinnertime photography takes place!!)
We settled on this green silk shade from Seascape Lamps. We’re very happy with the choice – and should we decide to go more neutral down the road, the company has TONS of shade colors that we could easily swap out with the same lighting kit.
Matt impressed me 1,000 percent by doing this project himself – from cutting the rod to fit our height requirements to doing the electrical work. Husband points!
We have yet to see it at night because we didn’t have the bulbs last night, but I love it during the day!
I put on my matching fleece and went for a 4 miler after writing all morning. It’s below freezing here but I was toasty in 3 layers, 2 hats and gloves!
Back at home I had leftover quinoa salad – with more goat cheese!
And an apple.
Debating one of my cookies for dessert!
Decision: yes!

I love your light Kath!! I am also a big fan of bright bold colours and have quite a lot of them splashed around my house. With the 2x100W bulbs and a diffuser, do you find your night time photos need much editing?
Well I don’t know yet because we don’t have the bulbs yet to test it, but I’m guessing yes
Sounds like you won the debate–cookies are always a good idea right after lunch–and you gotta celebrate that AWESome lamp!
I LOVE that color. Great choice
WOW kath I LOVE that green and the shape it adds a POP to the room – it’s summery springy fall and for Christmas season ! Looks great
I really need to stock up on goat cheese! You have such an eye for color.
LOVE the green light shade! Lime is one of my favorite colors. Also love that your outfit matched your lighting fixture
haha, my thoughts exactly! great colour for a jumper or a light shade
i LOVE that lamp!! green is my favorite color, plus it truly does complement that room well! great choice.
LOVE the light! It’s the perfect pop of color in there! Big time hubby points.
That light is fantastic! I love bold popping colors
And I am totally craving a cookie right now…maybe I’ll have to make some this weekend
wow ~ impressive work by Matt! looks great at that height
HAHA I love that you bundled up for a run! My coach always tells his runners to under-dress because your body will heat up naturally and all that gear will just weigh you down… and I’m like, hello it’s 20 degrees out! I’m wearing my layers!
Great color shade! I also had leftover quinoa and a cookie for lunch! It definitely hit the spot.
Since you are a goat cheese fan have you tried quark yet? I’ve just started finding it in our co-ops and whole foods here in MN. To me it tastes like the curds in cottage cheese but with a goat cheese texture. Can’t wait to try it on a bagel.
Never heard of it!
Good choices all around.
I’m about to bundle up to go for a hike after work. I sure hope the sun is out!
Awesome lamp shade and workout attire- green and pink are my fave colors
Mad props to the man for being so handy!
I love the green, good choice! And that’s great that you can swap it out if you decide to changes things up!
I love the lamp! You have such a tasteful dining area.
that lamp is so you! I know you love the lime green family and it matches your blog text color, your fuzzy jacket and it looks great with the dark wood table and chairs. Pretty!
Love the light! I’m eating quinoa + beets + goat cheese right now!
Great choice Kath!! That light looks wonderful in that room. It really makes the green on the plates pop!
I love the lamp shade! It makes a bold statement! Great job, Matt!
Would you ever turn down a sweet treat?

The light looks fabulous. You will have to let us know about the night effect. I love shade pendents, but I seem to always opt for a non fashionable ceiling fan to get light and circulate heat/air.
I love the light – green is my favorite for ANYTHING! So I like your shirt too – haha! I keep looking around my house noticing things we really need to update. But lack of extra money + non-handy hubby does not make for good combo when it’s just “cosmetic”.
I LOVE the pop of color with the green! And I definitely support the cookie for dessert
The dining room looks awesome! My best friend just got great dining room chairs in that same green color, and I love the retro look they give to the whole room. Super cute!
oooh I love the new light! Although I am completely biased as green is my favourite colour
Love the lamp! Nice job. And the matching outfit.
i love that green!
and a cookie is always the right decision
I like the lamp choice, and I certainly will say you can’t get lost in a snowstorm in that outfit! Love the bright colors, I HATE it when at night the joggers, pedestrians, bicyclists all wear black… If I see something, I will put my high beams on, it makes them look around. I always think, it’s your life, please don’t wear black at night!
Good decision
I’m so jealous that’s all you have to wear outside! I like the green shade – you can get the best of both worlds – something that’s bold but still not too flashy because it’s solid print.
LOVE that lamp! The color is perfect against the walls.
Do you still recommend a 50mm f/1.8 lens to beginner photographers not ready to invest a bunch of money on lenses yet?
Yes, it’s a wonderful lens for the price. My only complaint was that 50 mm is so cropped that food was hard to photograph. People too. My 35mm is so much more versatile
That shade is gorgeous! Love the shape and color. I think it goes well in your dining room.
What a cool light! We are debating transforming our kitchen from the dark/and brown to white cabinets with that color green glass tile backsplash. That light would work perfectly in my dream kitchen
When you think of it, green could be thought of as a neutral colour…nature is full of green to compliment all the beautirul colours nature provides. In your case, the green acts as the colour to give your dining room the added ‘je ne sais quoi’ it needed. Beautiful!
I like the light but am loving the colour of your fleece and gilet and particularly like them together
Husband points indeed — what a guy
I love the bright color — it’s a nice pop against the neutral walls!
Gorgeous shade! Really lights up that room, even in the daytime!
It’s a testament to your personable writing style to say that I actually wondered just last weekend “I wonder what lamp Kath decided to go with?”
LOL. When we got married, I thought my MIL’s house was so dated — all green 60′s furnishings. Now I’m seeing it all again. Not my taste, and thankfully I didn’t fall for the late 80′s/early 90′s blue/mauve either. What matters is that you love it. Enjoy your new shade!
I love your green apple light, it is beautiful! Great choice, it looks great on your room!
Ana
You look so stinking adorable in your bundled up running outfit. Love hot pink and lime green
The shade looks so YOU too!
Love the light! Good work, Husband!
I was wondering when the well-considered lamp shade would make an appearance…it sure provides a pop of color!
No offense, but your running attire is making me giggle…not sure I could get away with it, but it looks adorable on you
Oh, and don’t feel bad re. your drop in temp – consider that Chicagoans are suffering with temps in the single digits!
I love the green. I think it was an excellent choice!
You look very bundled up for your run!
I love your decorating style! I would have never thought to put in that green of a lamp, but it looks amazing!
Love the green shade. Nice choice.
I cannot imagine below freezing weather. It was in the mid 60′s today and I think the forecast is set for low 70′s tomorrow. Yes that is Houston “winter” weather for you. Ha!
I love the lamp! It looks so fresh and light!
What a bada** looking light fixture! It’s so cool how a simple change can make things go from so-so to awesome. I dig it! And I also dig that quinoa salad. Although I think anything with goat cheese added to it is delicious. I’d probably eat a dirty gym sock if someone covered it with goat cheese. Probably wouldn’t change the smell too much, huh?
Love that light!! Such a fun burst of color in the room!
Love that shade of green…very refreshing to the eyes. Looks good in your dining room.
Love the green shade- brightens up the room!
LOVE the lamp!!! Great choice!
What kind of shoes do you wear in the winter when you exercise outdoors. I have been staying in because mine are so clunky to walk in. Our weather is worse then yours and I dont want to break my neck. Also do you think you burn more calories in the cold?
It’s not so cold or snowy here that I can’t just wear my regular tennis shoes. I wore big boots in Montana last year
Oh and I LOVE the new light!
Goat cheese goes so well on everything
Oh wow, it’s perfect!!! I love the contrast with the furniture and how it pulls in the patterns on the plates.
Perfect temps for a run!
