Take That!

June 22, 2009

Another fun sunny quick run this AM. This time we founded a shaded path through a country club, so our run was really pleasant. I didn’t take any kind of measuring device, but I’d guess we did about 3.5 miles in about 35 minutes or so? Mileage and time didn’t matter; only an increase in sweat and energy.

On the tail end of our run we stopped into Publix to gather breakfast.

We got breakfast for 3 for less than $10. Take THAT $12.95 per person Hilton Garden Inn breakfast.

I had a Blueberry Oikos (Publix didn’t have plain) mixed with this half cup bag of me&goji from home:

and a huge handful of blueberries and a bite of banana in a solo cup. Plus some delicious pulpy OJ

Perfecto

We were going to go to the beach, but we ran out of time, so we’re going on a scenic drive up to Jax Beach and then to the airport. It’s going to be a long day of driving :( Hopefully I can catch up on blogs on the iPhone after I pull my 3 hour drive shift (a con of being a strong woman in an equal marriage – equal driving shares).

See ya’ll in the Queen City!

Have fun and drive safe!

Good job on breakfast! I always bring stuff from home or buy from the grocery store on trips.. hotels/restaurants can be so expensive!

Way to go on breakfast! I’m going to have to do that soon…4th of July will be at my husband’s grandparents lake house. I’m bringing or buying healthy options!!

I’m all about grocery store breakfasts while travelling.

Have a nice drive back!

Nice job on breakfast!! I always prefer a breakfast I can prepare at home rather than a less than stellar, overpriced, continental breakfast at a hotel.

Awesome job on breakfast! I’ll have to remember that for the next time that we go on a road trip or overnight. :-)

I too prefer the grocery store breakfast! Breakfast is the easiest meal of the day to prepare and usually totally overpriced in restaurants. Breakfast buffets in general are the biggest ripoff (seriously who can eat like $15 in breakfast food?).

HOWEVER, my one exception is in Maui…the Maui Prince Sunday Champagne Brunch is totally worth the HIGH HIGH price tag. So amazing, worth every bit of the splurge…and the champagne is bottomless. LOL.

DH and I like to play the license plate game when we drive!

Wow, it seems like you two have done a lot, and have seen a lot. for being gone just a few days. This sounds like a really great trip thus far!

That is one thing that we lack, shadey running trails. I wish! It would make running so much more pleasant.
That was a great little breakfast that you made. Spending $12.95 on breakfast as a ‘treat’ is one thing – but having it every day on holiday is way too expensive!!!

Cold OJ is so good after a hot, sweaty run! Enjoy the remainder of your trip!

Haha, I’m sure your breakfast was tastier too :)

I sometimes love exercising without my gadgets. It’s pretty freeing to just move till I feel good and sweaty without fretting over heart rate, calories, etc.

Have fun doing your share of the driving! ;)

Seems like a super fun trip!

My husband and I used to split driving times (the whole equal marriage thing) the only problem being that both of us can’t stand the way the other drives! It’s better for everyone, if he drives. on the plus side, we ALWAYS get there faster! :)

I actually love driving and tried to hog the time when we took a road trip a few summers ago. I also claim that when I drive, it’s my choice of music (another reason to hog the driving time)!

It is CRAZY how much hotels charge you. We just got back from NYC, and you can definitely save a bundle by bringing your own food!

I love going to local grocery stores and picking up food for meals when I’m traveling. It’s cheaper and usually so much healthier than going out!

Have a safe drive, and I hope it’s not too boring!

Ha, you show ‘em Kath!

It really is ridiculous though. For all that money I’m sure your breakfast wouldn’t have been half as good let alone good for you as this one. Have a safe drive :)

Haha we split the driving most of the time too…except neither of us likes it, so we always figure in lots of extra time for rest area naps and doing random favors so the other person will take more than their share.

Love saving money by going to the grocery store on vacations! We often do that for lunches on the beach and pick up some stuff like yogurt, fruit, crackers, etc. to put together a little spread instead of having a big heavy sandwich sit in our bare bellies :)

That looks like a great breakfast! I’m going out of town this weekend, and I’m not sure if we’ll bring breakfast foods or suck it up and buy the overpriced stuff…let’s see if I can talk the boyfriend into being thrifty (and healthy to boot!) ;-)

Awesome food Kath.

Yesterday I was trying to get a million junk food ideas out of my head and stop myself from eating all the unhealthy things I was considering. I came to your blog knowing I’d be inspired, and I was! I saw your cantaloupe soup a few days back (I think) and it looked so good I made a honeydew soup for lunch with a double fiber english muffin, Laughing Cow light cheese and low sugar strawberry jam. Great stuff!

Thanks for the inspiration :)

My husband hates to ride. Lucky me – I don’t mind sleeping and reading. Reminded me of an article I read yesterday about how not to act old – “don’t be a Ricky” (from I Love Lucy). Don’t be the person who takes care of the bills and worries about the taxes – be the person who shops for yellow dancing shoes. That is pretty much my view of life these days.

Hi Kath! I read your blog pretty regularly but missed a few days since I was obsessed with getting myself up to date on Meghann’s – just started reading it last week and finally caught up today. Anyways, I’m super excited that you’re thinking about relocating to Jacksonville. I’ve been here for almost 8 years. It’s a great (big) town and the juxtaposition of beach and city gives us a lot of neat dining / shopping / activity options. I’m glad you liked E Street and Bistro Aix – my boyfriend lives in San Marco and we can walk to them and they’re two of our faves! There’s a great local running store chain “1st Place Sports” that just opened a location in San Marco. Well just wanted to (finally) say hey and let you know that Jax is fun!
