Guess who went for a RUN this morning!!!!!!!!
Matt and I stayed up really late last night totally re-wiring our internet/cable/TV area. My computer’s wireless card isn’t reliable and I’d been using a cord tucked under the rug. But it was still visible peeking out from the sides of the rug and drove me nuts! I asked myself: “What would Better Homes & Gardens do?” Fix it, of course!
Luckily there were already holes in the floor for previous cable cords and we were able to get the ethernet cord to run out one and in another so now the cord goes through the basement ceiling instead of through our living room.
The only problem is I think we damaged the cord ends because now it is no longer working!! D’oh!
We also moved our modem and cable boxes to the other side of our entertainment center so we could reach them easier with the remote control. Simple fixes for big problems.
So moral of the story is, I went to bed late but still got up to run! Wheeeeeeeeee!
4.0 miles in the morning dew. And boy was I soaked when I returned!
But I found Matt on the porch – sipping a minty iced coffee!
After a quick shower, we made a quick breakfast –
Cinnamon Chip with smashed banana, jam, sunflower butter and granola. YUM!
That iced coffee was SO GOOD!
Today is the first day of employee training at the bakery!!
Long term, Matt is going to work mornings and I’m going to work afternoons, alternating with Karen as soon as she’s feeling better. This works well for my blogging schedule [since breakfast + lunch are important for me!] and will allow me to work on the blog + projects in the AM and the bakery in the PM.
But the next 3 weeks are filling with training and such that will require me to be there pretty much full-time. That’s ok!
Look for a midday entertainment post and I’ll be back this afternoon with lunch!

Haha. You reorganized your wires. You guys are so cute.
I would probably want Matt’s schedule. I’m definitely a morning person.
Iced coffee sounds so refreshing right now!
Good luck with the training!
I love iced coffee! Especially after a nice sweat sesh.
And that granola looks so full of texture! Yum
Good luck with the training! I’m sure everything will go great!
That ice coffee looks super refreshing!
Do you blog mostly to showcase your meals then since you said “breakfast/lunch” were important to you?
Your pictures look like something from Home and Garden!
I am near a Great Harvest today and I am hoping to make a pilgrimage to get some of that cinnamon bread
Love that you got up to run. I keep meaning to get up and run before I get started with my day, but I tend to wake up hungry for breakfast, or I want to just relax. I need to get back in the habit!
That breakfast looks delicious. I love how you’re always changing things up and trying new combinations. It makes meals more fun, huh? Good luck with bakery training!
Morning workouts are so invigorating! I love that feeling that you have all day of accomplishment, instead of that feeling all day of anticipating a workout.
Iced coffee is my personal drug. I even drink decaf, because my body hates caffeine. (It’ll give me a paralyzing migraine.)
Mmm, a nice cold iced coffee would be great right now. Glad you got a nice 4 mile run in! Way to be
Have fun with the training today!
I am so excited for you and opening your bakery! What an exciting adventure!! Will you guys be shipping items when you open? I was wondering about the granola?? I just found out I have major sensitivites to certain foods that were causing some major troubles. I am finding it hard to find stuff without these ingredients~ but you said walnuts and I can have walnuts.
Probably eventually, but not at first – just to keep things simple
I am LOVING your living room/office color scheme – so chic
Best wishes for all of your training, you three (with Karen) are inspirational!
such an exciting time for you kath! enjoy…..you guys are on your way.
Woo! Love the feeling of having a workout done early
Good luck with training!
ooh I have heard so many good things about the cinamon chip bread I need to get my hands on some assap!
I’m on iced coffee now for the summer. I alternate my morning caffeine fix… Hot latte, hot French pressed coffee, iced latte, iced coffee (French pressed, as well). I love it all.
~
How fun! Enjoy your day with the new empolyees and training!
Ur work hours sound ideal for your career (both GH and blogging). What time is the bakery open till?
7a-6p
How many people will you guys have working for you?
When I think about opening a restaurant some day – you know, in my next life
– it seems like the worker bees would be the hardest piece to coordinate!
About a dozen
Cinnamon Chip with smashed banana, jam, sunflower butter and granola = oh that looks stellar!
some people ask WWJesusDo. And you ask, WWBH&G Do? I LOVE IT!!!!
Your reorganization and rewiring efforts are so worth it. Pretty much I have realized my computer(s), my connectivity to them, and how they are laid out in my house rules my life and I dont care what I have to do…efficiency and productivity comes first! (as a sidebar sorry your wifi card isnt 100% reliable)
And I love the shot of LR up on your screen. Your screen is huge. I.love.that.
I bet that coffee is delicious!
Heck yeah on the awesome run! Morning workouts are the best.
Love the thought of you two sharing an early morning on the porch!
I usually have to drag myself out of bed for a workout but it really does feel good. I love being done with it before 8am. Then I have my whole day ahead and don’t dread a workout later.
Mmmm TOTALLY inspired by your iced coffee. I’m wondering, do you sweeten it at all and if so with what? I always find that to be a bit tricky since most sweeteners wont dissolve very easily.
I don’t sweeten it at all. I actually don’t even like sweet coffee anymore. It takes away from the coffee taste!
YAAAAAAAAAY for employee training! It’s all really happening!
I’ve never thought to put a sprig of mint in my iced coffee but that sounds delicious!
Good luck with all the scheduling, training and craziness! I’m so excited for you!
I’m not going to lie, I was pretty worried [selfishly] that with the bakery opening up, your blog posts might taper slightly but I’m very happy to see that you’re making arrangements, lol. I love that I can come to your blog several times a day and there’s always something new for me
Personally, I don’t know how you do it; I’m just glad that you do!
Take care, Kath!
No worries!! The blog will always be my first priority. Not only because it’s my love and my baby, but because it’s my income too
Are you both going to work every day? Will you ever get to see each other?
I wondered the same thing!
We hope to have dinner together every night!
Good luck with the bakery training today – opening sounds like it is so close!
Sounds like you and Matt have a perfect schedule worked out!
Power to YOU for still getting up and accompishing a GREAT run.. even though you stayed up late!
We have to do the same to the cords in our apartment. They need a major overhaul because we have a curious, clumsy cat in the house now. It is always a serious undertaking to get those unwieldy things under control!
I’ve been trying my hand at French Press iced coffee lately. I don’t think I quite have it down yet, it doesn’t taste that phenomenal… :/ But it sure is worth perfecting, because I will save a LOT of money if I make it myself rather than feeding this Starbucks addiction…
Wow, things are looking gorgeous! That bread snack looks nomnomnom
I know that this might not be proper, but I am very desperate and I just am needing to reach out to the blogging community. Please read this blog-the second issue addressed-to understand. http://divinelyvegan.wordpress.com/2011/05/22/very-important-post-help-needed/
We should have run together! I was out the door at 6:30!
I can’t believe we always miss each other in the AM!
Hi Kath, I love your blog and am inspired to eat more whole foods. I do pretty well but eat protein bars as a snack at work. Can you recommend a whole food that I can eat on the run while waiting tables? A piece of fruit hasn’t been enough.
Thanks!
I serve as well and I tend to bring snacks with good protein/fat content and a piece of fruit. My favorites are apples or grapes (easy to eat on the move), almonds, string cheese, homemade granola bars, PBJ half sandwiches, or some chicken breast or deli turkey slices. We also have a closed kitchen, so sometimes I’ll bring some greek yogurt that I can slam real quick with nobody seeing! I know I’m not Kath, but I thought maybe I could help too
Excellent suggestions! Trail mix, homemade granola bars, hard boiled eggs, Larabars..
have fun training employees guys! and good job for your early morning self-discipline~
have fun at training – hope it’s not like something out of “the office!”
Good luck with the first day of training the employees!!!!!
I always get so happy when I see you use a fork for you bread. Totally do that too for maximum satisfaction
What a simple yet amazingly delicious breakfast!
I’m SO INCREDIBLY BAD when it comes to electronics. I can work on a computer and know my way around the interface like a beast, but when it comes to the working parts and wires, keep them away from me because I’ll totally screw everything up! HAHA!
Sounds like one perfect morning!
What a yummy breakfast! Definitely want to try this.
Good luck with training!
It must be nice to see things coming together.
I like it: WWBHGD?
I see bracelets in your future.
Mint iced coffee? I never tried that one! Did you buy coffee beans with mint or did you add your own extract?
We just added mint leaves – the herbs from the garden
Congrats on an early run and in the rain! That’s impressive.
Good luck with the training. I’m sure you will have an excellent crew that won’t require much training at all!
Nice run! Feels good to get out there
You are going to be a busy girl once that bakery opens!
That’s such a great way to jazz up just plain ol toast. Good luck with employee training!
The minty iced coffee sounds great! A little too cold over here for iced coffee, so I can’t wait until the weather warms up a little more!
Ugh, figuring out how to hide cords is the worst! Its always the bane of my existance when decorating, or redecorating
I need to tackle reorganizing my wires…they are just a big ole mess right now.
Wow, that iced coffee looks absolutely amazing! If it were warmer here, I’d want one of those.
OMG – that toast looks so good!
Lucky you for only working afternoons! I guess Matt drew the short straw?
Hey! That’s unfair. I work really hard at my career and have been the sole breadwinner for a year!
I think it’s unfair to judge them like that. I’m sure they decided together which tasks to take on, now and before. Kath obviously makes money with her blog, so she will need time to do that! If she wouldn’t blog that often because she would have to work full time at the bakery from now on people would start on her for that. Blogging takes a lot of time, we all enjoy reading her blog. Give her a break! It will be hard enough for her to juggle all her tasks at the moment.
I agree people need to stop being so nasty! and honestly it s no ones place to make judgements!
I was kidding Kath!
I know how hard you work. I don’t know how you do it all!!!
I am so intrigued by the mint iced coffee. I am an absolute iced coffee addict (at least 2 a day, 365 days a year)- I brew my own at home and am always looking for new things to try- thanks for the inspiration!
P.S. Your house is adorable!
Granola and bread? Crunchy fun times galore!
Kath, I love your site! So inspirational, amazing pictures…thank you for sharing your life with us!! It’s such a treat to read.
XO
Thanks!
