Nothin’ like a Southern family dinner on a Sundy afternoon!
You really never know what you’re going to find in my parents’ house, so you can imagine my surprise when I found my mom’s rubber snake collection (which she uses in book talks) in my bedroom closet. It was quite the scare! I can hardly stand to look at them!
I did my Expecting More prenatal fitness DVD this morning because the weather was too gross to go outside. This time I did the Cardio Dance segment – loved it! I’m very impressed by this DVD, its pace, its variety and the fact that I actually get out of breath.
Then I took a shower and bathed in Noxzema!! I love the stuff, but I don’t buy it because I figured Skin Deep wouldn’t like the ingredient list but then I found my favorite “natural” cleanser, Alba Sea Minerals, doesn’t rank much higher. Puzzled. I love using Noxzema when I visit though. My mom and grandparents have been using it for years and years though. [We have a family connection to the company, actually]
Larbs + Matt came over for lunch today. Mom made a feast including homemade mac and cheese, green salad, waldorf salad, baked sweet potatoes (Matt’s contribution) and cake!
Cocktail hour applies to special lunches:
I’m having trouble with my Eye-Fi card again (which was just replaced this year!) and the photos of the mac and cheese and salad did not come out!! The card must have consumed them. Bummer.
It was really, really good mac and cheese!
For dessert, we all enjoyed Easter cake that my mom had frozen. It was brought by Matt A’s parents for Easter and they were all nice enough to save us some for this visit!
Wonderful cake!!
Served with strawberries
Matt and I are relaxing a bit more before we hit the road back to Cville this afternoon. It’s hard to let go of this vacation so easily!

Oh my gosh, that meal looks absolutely delicious! I miss being home with family!!!
I love the Cheerwine bottle! I think all soda tastes better from a glass bottle. Plus it seems decadent to me
I’ve never had Cheerwine – actually I had never heard of it before your post from the wedding last night – but it looks pretty delicious! Enjoy the rest of your visit – weekend trips always seem to go by way too fast.
Cheerwine and Noxema…remind me of high school
Haven’t thought about them in ages!

Are there any Yoga fitness videos you have tried (when you were not expecting) and would recommend. KERF readers I would really appreciate any reccomendatons from you as well
Thank you!!
I liked Bob harpers yoga for the warrior… pretty good. I did a ton of Dave farmar podcasts. Love him and free!
I second Harper! Haven’t done it for a year now though.
Noxema! What a flash back. I remember the commercials back in the day. I feel so old! As for the rubber snake collection… that scares the jeebies out of me, I hate all snakes – fake or real! Your meal looks lovely though; Sunday meals are the best.
Hi, Jim and I were excited to see your KERF blog advertisement on the big screen before the performance of the Charlottesville Ballet last night. You’re everywhere! :>) http://www.JoyofGardens.com
Oh fun! We did a sandwich spread for them!
Wow your family has a connection to Noxema?!?! That is awesome! Clear complexion for life!

What a fantastic dinner! Yummy!
I have not used Noxzema in a very long time. I always liked the smell of it, for some reason.

Soooo what are the odds of your mom sharing her mac and cheese recipe? It looks too good not to replicate!
Good…but we didn’t have time today. I will get it eventually and I’m going to try it with Greek yogurt instead of sour cream
I used to love Noxema! On a super hot day, it feels soooooo cooling on the face! Great looking lunch…I also thought it was potato salad…yum apples!
New phrase perhaps to replace “skeletons in the cloest”?
Ha
Love it! My snakes are kind of funky colors, so not overly scary. The bears played with them over the summer and got quite used to them.
YUM! That looks so good! What’s that apple-looking salad? It looks really good!
It’s a Waldorf…with apples, celery, raisins..a dressing
And walnuts … although they were a little skimpy today.
Everything looks so good, I would love a piece or bite of everything!
Love the mac & cheese pictures, but those snakes freaked me out even though it was just a picture! Ouch.
That mac & cheese looks really good, especially the crusty top!
All of the food looks delicious!
Waldorf Salad always makes me think of my mother. It’s the dish she always brought to fall pot-lucks. She only used Jonathan apples in it and I loved to get a big scoop of it on my plate. Thanks for bringing up a good memory.
Oh my gosh, I lOVE Cheerwine! Did my RD internship in NC (I’m from CA), and fell in love with that and Sun Drop
