Grass is cut! Shortly after our few drops of rain the sun came back out full blast! (Sorry Bostonians!) I mowed in record speed today – about 45 minutes. Why-oh-why did we ever waste time bagging the clippings!?!? I can go soooo much faster now. After the mow I went for a 5K loop run around the neighborhood, came home and stretched, did some chores around the house (garage is swept!) and showered.
Surprisingly I wasn’t even that hungry for lunch at 1:30, but I knew I was ready to eat. Especially when this came out from the broiler!
A Jalapeno Corn Bun stuffed with ham and chipotle cheese – plus some English mustard! Britain’s 300 year old gourmet food purveyor Fortnum & Mason offered to send me a few samples of their best mustards and preserves. I can’t wait to try the Whiskey and Beer flavored ones!
Needless to say this sandwich rocked
On the side I had some veggies and made a new dip – Goat Cheese Guac
I just mixed together about 2 tbsp each of avocado and goat cheese, softened in the microwave for 10 seconds, with a pinch of salt and 2 fresh chopped basil leaves. It was awesome!!!!!!!! Can’t wait to make it again when I have another avocado.
Lastly I had a plumble jumble on its last leg
Delish!
I’ve got computer stuff to do until dinnertime
Karen’s coming over with some Carolina shrimp!

So jealous that you have sun!! At least one of us does, I guess! Sandwich looks delish — Jalapeno Corn Bun? YUMMERS!!
UGH! I am SO jealous of your weather!!!
How funny! I was literally just in Fortnum and Mason three weeks ago during a study abroad program. Their store is NUTS–crazy fancy. I picked up some tea and chocolate biscuits–delish!
Mmmm your breakfast looks awesome. I want to try the cacao bliss so badly!
Your sandwich looks yummy too… I think I’m going to have a pita with some cheese and peppers again…

Jalapeno Corn Bun??? That sounds amazing! I love eating outside! Glad it turned into a nice day for you!
I love sandwiches with melty cheese! I made a ham, monterey jack, and honey mustard sandwich on a toasted baguette this weekend. Also, I’m very jealous of your sunshine
Lucky you with the sun! Please send some up here to Boston soon!
ooh, that sandwich sounds amazing! i love mustard and those flavors look awesome
The same thing happened here in upstate NY. Rained HARD and now the sky is blue and the sun is shining like it’s nobody’s business.
Hi Kath,
First time commenter but long time reader (I love your blog!).
I JUST started grad school and have a 4 hr lab in the morning, 5 days a week. We are not allowed to eat or drink anything in lab but by 10 a.m., I am ready to pass out on the floor! I guess my huge bowl of oats w/ light soy milk is not cutting it.
Do you have any breakfast suggestions that would hold me over until noon time? Your bowl of oats creations look so good, but I don’t think my sensitive tummy can handle a lot of toppings, etc.
Thanks!
wow that’s a great looking sandwich. those fortnum & mason mustards sound delicious too…i’m a fan of their teas!
wow. THAT WHOLE LUNCH LOOKS DELICIOUS. I wish I was eating it with you (or by myself so I don’t have to share? mwa ha..)
excellent idea with the dip. Doesn’t goat cheese just make everything better?
My offer still stands – I will gladly cut your grass if you ever need someone to!
Yes, I miss cutting grass so much I would cross international borders to do it! Ha!
Enjoy the shrimp!
That sandwich looks absolutely yumm-o!
Grass looks LOVELY! And so does lunch!
Have a great afternoon! Oooh, and Carolina shrimp? Heck ya!
One order of shrimp to go – do you by any chance deliver?
Your goat cheese guac looks great, I can imagine endless possibilities for eating that!
mmmmm, goat cheese guac… Brilliant combination!!!
Oh honey, goat cheese + guac? You have just become my favorite person today.
Love!
Your sandwich is amazing. Corn-jalap bun sounds too good to be true. Be still my beating heart.
Beer flavored mustard sounds quite interesting! I can’t wait to here your review on the other ones!!
Mmmm jalapeno corn bun. That sounds super.
Amazing looking lunch! I love a good mustard!
mmm that sandwich looks so good!
I have never bagged my grass when I cut it! Can’t imagine how long that would take! Great looking lunch!
Looks like a flavorful and refreshing lunch!
Jenn
HATE mustard but your goat cheese guac looks HEAVENLY
Could you please send some of that sun my way? That would be so great.
I would like that entire lunch please and a side of your sunshine!
Anything with ham, cheese, and bread, is guaranteed to satisfy! Yum yum
New York FINALLY got some sun today. You’d think New Yorkers were in hibernation the past few months with how crowded the city streets were today!
We got rained out from our plans today. It’s ok I guess though, we need rain really bad and my grass loves it! I stopped using the bag too, it is much easier without it I have to agree. Plus, someone told me the clippings helped re-fertilize the grass. Not to shabby. Great looking lunch by the way.
That sandwich looks really good!
That sandwich look fabulous! And what is that – sunshine?? I forgot what it looks like….
What a rockin sandwich!
Wow that sandwich looks amazing! Where do you get the jalapeno corn buns? Or do you make them?
That sandwich looks AWESOME!
Yum, goat cheese guac. I have goat cheese and avocados. . . hmmmm.
It’s always nice to get the grass mowing out of the way. And what a delicious way to reward yourself! YUM!!!
Enjoy your shrimp and company tonight!
nicole ,
My only suggestion, assuming there’s no possible way to eat a snack, would be to increase your portion. If you can’t handle toppings, could you try different ones? Or just increase the portion of oatmeal? Try a breakfast with more protein/fat? But I would definitely say increase the amount you eat so it’ll hold you over much longer.
Jessie ,
Matt makes them at Great Harvest.
Kath
oooh, I bought goat cheese today, I think I’ll be making this!
What a heavenly sandwich! I love all kinds of mustard.
nicole, try peanut (or almond or cashew or…:)) butter with your oatmeal! It’s ungodly delicious, and the protein and healthy fats in it make your oats have much more staying power. A bowl of oats with good ol’ PB keeps me full for at least five hours!
Ooooohhh I LOVE goat cheese.
And avocados.
I just might have to try this. Thanks.
