Sun Day

April 17, 2011

Inside out day is going great so far!!

This morning my friend Suzanne came over for a walk. We walked + talked for about an hour covering 3.3 miles around my neighborhood.

I came home and changed the laundry…

I’m working on more cleaning experiments! GOOD NEWS!

And then went back out on our same walking route, running this time! I covered 6.6 glorious outside miles!

Matt is gardening and brewing beer

Lunchtime called!

Mmmmmmmmmm pimento cheese on High Five bread!!!! Plus more spiced pecans

A few strawbs

And a wonderful fresh salad

We were out of sparkling water, but it’s back!

Fun day thus far! Although I showered, I intend to go back outside for more playing – this time on my bike! Unfortunately it’s not all that warm outside and I’m kind of cold in shorts and a t-shirt. Might have to go put on more layers!

we just got our refill carbon canister for our seltzer maker – life is so much more pleasant when we have bubbly water around!

2 Holly @ The Runny Egg April 17, 2011 at 1:09 pm

Yep the sun is out but it is still kind of windy here too. Enjoy your day outside!

3 Allie (Live Laugh Eat) April 17, 2011 at 1:10 pm

Wowza! 9.9 miles in total? I totally would have walked 0.1 more miles at the end to make it 10 :). Enjoy the rest of the day!

4 KathEats April 17, 2011 at 1:38 pm

Just 6.6!

5 Allie (Live Laugh Eat) April 17, 2011 at 2:05 pm

I mean plus the 3.3 walkin’!

6 KathEats April 17, 2011 at 3:53 pm

I know – I walked 3.3 and then ran 3.3 – just 6.6 total.

BUT I just walked more and think I hit 10!

7 Marina April 17, 2011 at 1:11 pm

I can’t wait to get some sun next week on my spring break!
your lunch looks delicious, with that gooey cheese….

8 Kate April 17, 2011 at 1:13 pm

You got a pretty active day in already!

Have you ever tried to use vodka as room spray? It actually smells so good with some lavender infused in it. It is just a little bit ‘out there’ though :)

9 KathEats April 17, 2011 at 1:38 pm

No!! that sounds cool!

10 Molly April 17, 2011 at 3:48 pm

This does work…I have made room spray before with equal parts vodka, distilled water and a few drops of an essential oil!

11 Kate (What Kate is Cooking) April 17, 2011 at 1:21 pm

You are a walking machine! I long for the day I live in a walkable city :)

12 Abby April 17, 2011 at 4:58 pm

Me too Kate!

13 Emily @ Savory and Savage April 17, 2011 at 1:22 pm

15 Stacy @ Every Little Thing April 17, 2011 at 1:24 pm

Yay sparkling water! Love that stuff. It’s nice here too, almost 70 degrees! Awesome after yesterday’s 50-degree day!

16 Jumanah @ Healthy Living in the Middle East April 17, 2011 at 1:25 pm

Your so lucky to be in such a walkable town! In one day, you cover more than some in an entire week!

17 Freya (Brit Chick Runs) April 17, 2011 at 1:31 pm

If you had swum instead of walking, you basically did a triathlon today :) hardcore!

18 Cait's Plate April 17, 2011 at 1:34 pm

Aw yay – what a fun day! :) Have a fabulous time playing outside some more. Even if it’s not warm, we can always pretend right!?

19 Michelle April 17, 2011 at 1:40 pm

Looks wonderful! I’d love to get into biking, if I had a good place to do it around where I live. Have a fantastic day!

20 Angel7 April 17, 2011 at 1:40 pm

We just bought some strawberries today at the store. I cannot wait to eat them!

Your salad looks good! I have been eating more salads lately, because you have inspired me through the pictures of your awesome greens!

Cheers… To great health!

21 Simply Life April 17, 2011 at 1:44 pm

so do you make your own sparkling water? I love drinking it but hate buying all the bottles!

22 KathEats April 17, 2011 at 3:52 pm

Yes, in a keg with a carbonator for beer

23 Stacey (Being Stacey) April 17, 2011 at 1:44 pm

I hope the second half of your day is just as fun! :)

24 [email protected] April 17, 2011 at 1:47 pm

25 Kristi @ KristiAteIt April 17, 2011 at 1:49 pm

I’ve never had fresh brewed beer before…I’m so curious about it!

26 Molly April 17, 2011 at 1:51 pm

What’s Matt brewing this time?

27 KathEats April 17, 2011 at 3:52 pm

Imperial Stout! My fav!

28 Becky O'Brien April 17, 2011 at 8:14 pm

Mike and I can certainly vouch for Matt’s beer-brewing talent!

29 Molly April 17, 2011 at 8:44 pm

Does he have distributing rights to Northern Illinois? I’ve just recently come around to stouts!

30 Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat April 17, 2011 at 2:01 pm

Wow, what a fun day so far, and a lovely lunch intermission! Have fun playing this afternoon Kath! :)

31 kaila @ healthy helper! April 17, 2011 at 2:02 pm

Sunshine and strawberries – signs that SUMMER is on it’s way 😀

What a fun and active day, as usual in the KERF daily read 😉

34 Baking Books April 17, 2011 at 2:17 pm

Warm enough for shorts?! I can’t believe you ran after the walk and sheets!

Is that pecans and raisins on the salad? Love raisins.

35 Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope April 17, 2011 at 2:17 pm

Sounds like such a productive morning AND fun! That bread looks incredible for lunch. Hope you enjoy your afternoon as well! :)

You always have the prettiest salads ever!

40 Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) April 17, 2011 at 2:57 pm

Glad you got in some great exercise and time with your friend.

Beer making and pimento cheese and spiced nuts…all awesome too.

And getting laundry done and sheets changed is so productive feeling, love it when I am all caught up.

41 Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife April 17, 2011 at 3:09 pm

mmmm I am going to have pizza tonight–love the inspiration :)

42 Natalia - a side of simple April 17, 2011 at 3:23 pm

Gardening and brewing. What a pair of activities! Hope you’re having a wonderful, sunny Sunday :)

43 Hilary April 17, 2011 at 3:25 pm

Looks like it’s much nicer where you are than where I am. I’m inside on the couch in sweats with a blanket! I had snow….so jealous!

44 Namaste Gurl April 17, 2011 at 3:34 pm

Wow, you’re quite the active women! I haven’t done 6.6 miles in quite along time- I stick to 4-5 these days :)

45 Sarah (Running To Slow Things Down) April 17, 2011 at 3:53 pm

I never think sandwiches or salads of any kind are boring. At all. And yet I realize how horribly repetitive I am once I see your creations. They’re always so beautiful and delicious looking. 😀

46 Stacey (The Home-Cooked Vegan) April 17, 2011 at 4:19 pm

Yay for outside time! Glad you are enjoying the sunshine :)

47 The Teenage Taste April 17, 2011 at 4:22 pm

Sounds like a great day so far! I love taking walks and soaking up the sun on beautiful days like today. I followed your lead and spent the morning outside at my brother’s baseball game. I love springtime! :-)

48 Alexa @ SimpleEats April 17, 2011 at 5:04 pm

Sounds like a great weekend! I LOVE pimento cheese, it’s way too good.

49 Julie @ Lettuce Choose Healthy April 17, 2011 at 5:10 pm

what a productive day! I just bought strawberries! They are so juicy! Love them!

50 Lisa (bakebikeblog) April 17, 2011 at 5:15 pm

what a lovely day in the sun!

51 staceyhealthylife April 17, 2011 at 5:52 pm

I’ve been busy with fun and work all day today. Outside I go again to mow the lawn.

52 Hannah April 17, 2011 at 6:31 pm

I love sparkling water! I can rarely justify the price when water is free, but it’s lovely :)

53 KathEats April 17, 2011 at 6:37 pm

Ours is free, which is why it rocks!

54 Christine (The Raw Project) April 17, 2011 at 6:59 pm

Sounds like a very productive day so far, lunch looks wonderful!

55 Char April 17, 2011 at 7:31 pm

At least the sun is out where you are…it snowed where I am today. Was NOT happy about that!

56 Vanessa April 17, 2011 at 7:40 pm

I love your fresh lunch. I wanted to go on a walk today but didn’t know a good route! Thinking of going to the downtown mall tomorrow! Sounds like you had a good inside out day :-)

57 KathEats April 17, 2011 at 8:59 pm

Are you in Cville too!?

58 Vanessa April 17, 2011 at 10:15 pm

Yes! I was here this weekend. Was going to leave tomorrow to go back to Charlotte but think I’m going to stay another day :-)

59 Kim April 17, 2011 at 7:47 pm

I’m not sure why sparkling water is so much more delicious than regular! I really want to start making my own so I don’t spend all of our money or Pellegrino.

60 McKayla April 17, 2011 at 8:17 pm

Wow, you are super active today! Luv your blog (especially tribute to oatmeal)!

How do you make your sparkling water?

61 KathEats April 17, 2011 at 9:00 pm

In a keg with a CO2 tank

62 Kathleen @ KatsHealthCorner April 17, 2011 at 8:26 pm

I love the strawberries! I am so excited that they are finally in season! 😀

63 Amy April 17, 2011 at 8:45 pm

I see that you drink sparkling water a good deal – are there health benefits to it? Or to the specific kind that you drink? And how do you guys brew your own?

64 GingerandRice April 17, 2011 at 9:13 pm

Your salads ALWAYS look so delicious! Its hard for me to make myself go and wash a head of lettuce. Do you buy prewashed bagged/boxed lettuce? Or do you wash it all at once and store it in some kind of container in the fridge? I want to include more greens in my diet!

65 KathEats April 17, 2011 at 9:14 pm

I usually buy pre-washed organic spinach – which I do not wash again. But this salad was half romaine, which was a head that I washed in bulk and then tucked back in the fridge with a paper towel

66 Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin April 17, 2011 at 9:16 pm

What an amazing day of playing outdoors! I was trapped inside because it snowed here today. Ugh! :(

67 lauri ( April 17, 2011 at 9:19 pm

I’m planning to buy some Shaklee products next week! Can’t wait to see your laundry review 😉

68 Célèste April 18, 2011 at 2:50 pm

I have a water carbonator that I love and I’m wondering if – being green – you would be interesting in carbonating your own water. The brand is Soda Stream and I got it on Amazon for around $100. I’ve been loving it. Not only do I never run out of carbonated water (and never have to pay for it), but it’s also a green move because there are no bottles, no shipping water on trucks, nothing.

69 KathEats April 18, 2011 at 3:33 pm

Yes, we do carbonate our own. See a few comments above. We use a keg + CO2 tank

70 Célèste April 18, 2011 at 3:43 pm

Oh, of course. With your husband being a brewer, I should have figured. Isn’t it great. It’s my new obsession.

71 Dmarie April 18, 2011 at 3:22 pm

wow, I love grilled pimento cheese but Hubby doesn’t. I think he’d go for this pimento cheese bruschetta though…the addition of nuts is sheer genius. thanks for sharing!

72 Melissa @ Journey to Marvelous April 19, 2011 at 2:09 pm

Walking, running, and biking all in one day! I could learn a lesson or two from you. :)
