Steak Is In Da House

October 18, 2009

We arrived in Dillon this afternoon and checked into our hotel. Since we were about a mile from the downtown and the weather was warmer here than in Charlotte, we decided to walk!

IMG_6120 (640x427)

And we walked straight to the Patagonia Outlet!

IMG_6122 (640x427)

IMG_6121 (427x640)

After about 45 minutes of browsing and trying on jackets and fleece, I came out with an awesome steal. I really wanted what we call in our house a "Kanzi Fleece" because Kanz has a furry black one that he’s had since college that makes him look even more like an ape. I tried on all of the adult ones and had a teal one picked out for $87 and couldn’t decide if I really "needed" it or not. And then I decided to try on a kids’ sized jacket that I liked on a whim and realized that the kids’ larges fit perfectly!! And unlike the women’s, they were only $49. Sweet! Happy early birthday to me!! Thanks to my mom for the gift!!

IMG_6124 (427x640)IMG_6123 (427x640)

Too bad it wasn’t colder. I was HOT walking around in it!

IMG_6126 (427x640)

I also got a cute camisole for $5

IMG_6129 (427x640)

The town of Dillon was quaint – and filled with saloons and bars!

IMG_6136 (427x640)

And we found Great Harvest!!

IMG_6141 (640x427)

IMG_6143 (640x427)

IMG_6146 (427x640)

And we found our dinner spot – which was CLOSED on Sundays! BOoo! Since the entire town seemed shut down, we set out on a hunt to find a new dinner spot.

IMG_6139 (427x640)

Our back-up recommendation was a bit far to walk, so we walked a mile back to the hotel to get the car. After an hour of walking, my legs were tired!

We discovered the most beautiful mountain sunset along the way

IMG_6152 (640x427)

IMG_6159 (640x427)

IMG_6161 (640x427)

And we found dinner – at the Lion’s Den, a good old fashioned steakhouse

IMG_6163 (640x427)

We were seated with a pitcher of water –

IMG_6164 (427x640)

Gotta love the deer placemats!

IMG_6170 (640x427)

And a pleasantly impressed local brews list

IMG_6171 (640x427)

Now I had been saying ALL DAY how much I wanted a juicy glass of red wine at dinner. But the wines by the glass were listed as "merlot" and "cabernet" so I figured we were in beer country and I should partake in the good old bubbly brews instead of a glass of red.

IMG_6169 (640x427)

I ordered an amber lager from Missoula by Bayern

IMG_6167 (427x640)

And Matt got more of that delicious Moose Drool!

IMG_6166 (427x640)

And later in the evening, a Pigs Ass Porter, which we shared.

IMG_6174 (640x427)

IMG_6175 (427x640)

Vegetarians beware – huge steak ahead!!

Nothing on the menu was jumping out at me (I’m still waiting to see Montana Trout on the menu!) and I decided to go with a Petit Prime Rib with veggies, a roll, and a baked potato.

Petit I think not – this guy was HUGE!! Like my two hands put together!! It tasted good, but I was more interested in the veggie side of my meal. I had about 5-6 smallish bites and Matt finished off the rest.

IMG_6180 (640x427)

My sides were a baked tater, steamed veggies and a wheat roll. I ate most of this plate sans some of the tater

IMG_6176 (640x427)

Which I doctored with some whipped butter and sour cream

IMG_6183 (640x427)

Matt got a spicy burger with sweet potato fries and polished off them all!! I had a bite of each – delish.

IMG_6182 (640x427)

We were not fans of the onions on the side!

IMG_6178 (640x427)

I wasn’t hungry for dessert at all, but I did want something sweet. I settled for a delicious peppermint from the mint basket.

We got home from dinner before 8PM and aren’t sure what’s next on the agenda. Going to a saloon was discussed and rejected due to our big day tomorrow (I think I was the one doing the rejecting though!) There is a hot tub in this hotel, so we might go soak in that after covered probably close to 8 miles on foot today and a lot yesterday too.

Can’t wait to get to Great Harvest tomorrow!

It has been sooo much fun reading these blog posts about Montana. It looks like you had such a fun romantic time. I am absolutely in love with your new camera. You did such a great job eating healthy on this trip. You are totally my idol when it comes to a healthy lifestyle. :)

13 Ashley October 19, 2009 at 12:33 am

Patagonia outlet!!! ahhhh =) LOVE the color! Great find!

14 Mama Pea October 19, 2009 at 12:38 am

Whatdya mean “makes him look even more like an ape?!?!?” Those are words that hurt. :(

15 maria October 19, 2009 at 12:53 am

Again, best of luck with Great Harvest. And I agree your veggie plate looks much more appealing to me than the steak. I like my steak much more well done than that one looks!

16 Jessica @ How Sweet It Is October 19, 2009 at 5:43 am

Good luck today!!

17 Jenn (www. ) October 19, 2009 at 5:43 am

18 Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope October 19, 2009 at 6:20 am

What an adorable coat! That will be perfect for chilly nights and upcoming cool weather.

Sounds like the perfect afternoon and evening! :)

19 Stacey October 19, 2009 at 6:59 am

That sunset is beautiful! When Jas and I went to Boone, I loved having a hot tub in our room because you didn’t have to worry about carrying your items from one place to the next, and it was a good way to soak my feet after a day of sight seeing!! Have fun :)

20 Kara October 19, 2009 at 7:04 am

I have definitely bought a kid’s size jacket for the same reason before! Hey if it works, then why not?

21 Emily (Emily Eats and Exercises) October 19, 2009 at 7:05 am

Very cute jacket!
I love when I can buy kids stuff – sometimes I can get kids shoes – much cheaper and often just as cute.

22 haya October 19, 2009 at 7:24 am

love the model on the bench shot!
and also on the prime rib. YUM. the boy brought home a giant cooler filled with grass fed cow cuts from his uncle’s farm. i see roasts in my future.

i love being able to shop in the kids section. it is one of the few benefits of being small, so i’ll take it!

23 Megan @ Megzz Wins At Life October 19, 2009 at 7:39 am

I love all the model pictures!! You are both way too cute!!! I also shop in the kid section :-)

24 Mara @ What's For Dinner? October 19, 2009 at 7:45 am

Good luck with Great Harvest today! i haven’t worn a kids size since, well… i was a kid. Patagonia stuff is great though! Enjoy!

25 brandi October 19, 2009 at 7:50 am

great steal on the fleece! i do the same thing – the kids larges usually fit perfectly and are SO much cheaper.

It’s so beautiful there!

26 Stephanie October 19, 2009 at 8:15 am

27 Jac October 19, 2009 at 8:22 am

My husband and I thought we were the only anti-onion couple. We do have friends who actively promote them to us we snicker at all of the pro-onioners.

30 Kath October 19, 2009 at 8:40 am

Thanks guys!!

35 LCR October 19, 2009 at 10:06 am

I just wanted to say that your camera was probably the best innvestment ever. The pictures are so amazing. I want one!

36 Diana October 19, 2009 at 10:11 am

That’s a huge steak! I agree that the veggies are a little bit more interesting 😉 How can you not like onioooon 😛

37 Julie October 19, 2009 at 10:39 am

Love the jacket. Kid’s sizes are my saviour. My north face is a kids size, I buy kid’s sweatshirts and before my exercising days I’d buy kids sneakers. Sometimes it pays to be a wee one 😉

38 linda October 19, 2009 at 11:33 am

Love the violet jacket. And it looks like it fits perfectly. What a sharp eye!

BTW, that spicy burger is making me hungry.

39 Whit October 19, 2009 at 12:15 pm

I ? your kids fleece. You guys look like you’re having fun out there in the wild. 😉

40 Whit October 19, 2009 at 12:16 pm

Um, that question mark above is supposed to be a heart. I do not question your fleece. I love your fleece.

41 The Healthy Apple October 19, 2009 at 2:13 pm

I love the Patagonia….great color, Kath!! Good luck tomorrow at Great Harvest…can’t wait to hear all about it…
Enjoy yourselves and have fun!!!

have a “beary” lucky day :)

also, challenge for matt…gluten free bread that tastes good :)

44 Jen(eatmovelove) October 19, 2009 at 7:51 pm

Love your blog. I’ve heard alot about it! Seems like your having a great time. I like the fact that you eat meat – not that I have anything against Vegetarians/Vegans mind you!!! – no,not at alllll.
I am not a carnivore by any means and rarely eat red meat…but I enjoy my chicken and occasional steak fillet – and I see so many blogs with no meat…that it makes me wonder if I’m doing something ‘wrong’. Although like I said, I love tofu, and veggies’ and oatmeal and pastas so it’s all good :). I’m not eating burgers everyday either :)

I just started my own blog, and love to write…I wish I could make it my career. If you have any advice/help to give, I’d love to hear it! You have lots of experience I see :) Thanks!

45 Kath October 19, 2009 at 10:57 pm

Thanks for your comment!

Ditto! Meat is one of the most nutritious foods, so I think it’s ideal to have every now and then.

46 Jo December 15, 2010 at 6:20 pm

Lol, Montana Trout isn’t actually all that great 😉

47 Jamie @ Food in Real Life January 11, 2011 at 4:31 pm

A delicious mint from the mint basket… LOL! I don’t think i’ve ever considered those “delicious” but hey, maybe I’ve been too hard on those little guys!
