Starving Husband

Lazy Saturday morning around here. I was in the process of getting ready to do yoga when the husband came down and pronounced he was starving. So in an effort to eat together, I postponed yoga for later. Now I feel too full to do it, so we’ll see. We joined Netflix!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What is even cooler than the concept itself is that we can watch tons and tons of stuff online. We watched the first 2 Office episodes on a laptop in bed last night and 2 more today. I didn’t start watching until Season 4, so I’ve got a lot of catching up to do. I can believe how different everyone looks!

Breakfast was a good one (duh):

  • 1/3 cup oats, 1% milk, water, 1/2 large banana, pinch salt, 2 dried figs
  • 1/3 cup pumpkin + pumpkin pie spice
  • Ground flax
  • Coconut butter
  • Toasted almonds
  • The last 1/3 of a KIND Almond Coconut bar
  • Barney Butter, spread around (I’m liking this new technique!)

Butterscotch Toffee! We need a bigger French press (or a new coffee pot!). Doing two in a row is quite labor intensive.

Boston Dinner Party

Larbs and Matt had friends over for dinner last night and made our Turkey + Goat Cheese Pasta Bake. Here’s their recap!

This meal was re-created in an attempt to share our Bald Head experience with our Boston friends.  Our guest Lauren (pictured with boyfriend Evan) described the aroma of the pasta bake as a decadent yum of joyfulness.  Homemade beer bread accompanied the bake as well as a traditional mesclun salad with a homemade dressing.  The meal will end in a trip to the top of the Prudential tower for cocktails and possibly the  cookie sampling platter.

This just in: New In Labs: Multiple Inboxes. SO CONVENIENT!!!!!!! I always have emails to follow up with and am obsessed with a clear Inbox, so this helps me a ton. Wheeee!


  1. Digestion
  2. Yoga / Workout
  3. Work on Foodservice project
  4. Rye bread for lunch
  5. Grocery shopping???
  6. Trip uptown to see comedian Jon Reep! (My birthday gift to the husband). Dinner: TBD.

I made that Goat Cheese Pasta for dinner last night, too! DELICIOUS! I varied the recipe a bit based upon what I had in my kitchen, but I totally got the basic idea from you months ago. YUM! Thank you! Have a wonderful Saturday, Kath!

Ok, I have a question about the calories in oatmeal because every package I get says something slightly different…I usually eat 1/3 cup of large rolled oats and some packages say 110, others all the way up to 140 (all based on a 1/3 cup). Which is right?

I am a HUGE proponent of dropping the nut butter on top of the oatmeal to melt in. It’s fabulous. I am glad you’re enjoying it.

You’ve inspired me to eat grapefruit again.
I haven’t had it for years, because I couldn’t be bothered with the faff off halving it, going round the edges with a knife, then cutting it into segments.
Then…I saw your photo, where you’ve simply cut a half into slices.
So simple, yet I’d never thought of it.
I’ve been taking it to work or having it as a snack – it’s so refreshing.

Goat’s cheese bake sounds lovely.

Hi! I visit your site nearly every day – love all the pics and the recipes. I am moved to comment today because as a huge Office fan I cannot believe that you have never seen Seasons 1-3! I am sort of jealous. :) You are in for a treat. Season 2 is my all time favorite. Enjoy!

i always melt my peanut butter in my oatmeal, and i loooooove it! so i can see why you like it spread around!

I would image that the difference is in the type of oats. Quick oats are cut smaller and pack more into a measuring cup (= less air, more oat) than rolled oats do. I generally assume 100 calories for 1/3 cup; 150 for 1/2 cup.

The struggles I have are personal, so I don’t feel comfortable sharing them with the world. I also don’t live in a bubble, so even though sometimes I want to blog about things, I have to choose my words carefully because so many people I know read my blog.

Thanks for taking the time to respond! Sometimes it’s inspirational to learn how other people overcome similar challenges in life, but I also TOTALLY understand your not wanting to disclose too much info on a public blog (private blogs are different). Keep up the good work! :-)
