Spring Chased By Snow

February 18, 2012

It is an absolutely GORGEOUS day out there! I can’t believe I am chasing a snow storm…..

Fun times at the bakery! I worked for a few hours after our meeting. Helped lots of customers. Bagged breads. Ate strawberry cream cheese frosting…

Other highlights today in addition to our regular line of healthy whole grain products where cinnamon swirl

And these cinnamon buns!

Made from scratch and selling fast!

For lunch I had a half ham sandwich. I rarely [if ever?] eat our deli meats since we have so many great pescatarian options, but I am on a pork craving kick this week (hence the BBQ yesterday) and decided on a ham + cheese.

Pregnancy women request all the time that we steam the deli meat first which should take care of any scary bacteria. Turned it into a hot ham and cheese!

On the side – one pikal and a side of BBQ chips shared with Karen and Matt. BBQ kick totally!

Yesterday my stomach grew an inch horizontally. In ONE day I noticed a huge difference from morning to night! I don’t think it was just ice cream either because it’s firm under there and poking out. My torso is also extremely THICK!

Packing time!

10 Michelle @ Esculent Dreams February 18, 2012 at 2:25 pm

Hi Kath!

I’ve been following your blog for about a month now and just wanted to say how much I admire your dedication – especially when it comes to posting pictures! I recently started a blog of my own and pictures/editing feel like such a hassle each time… I much prefer writing :) Anyways, congrats on such an exciting time in your life! I can’t wait to see pics once the baby is born!

11 KathEats February 18, 2012 at 10:29 pm

Thanks Michelle! I think it’s a lot more work than most people realize :) But also a joy to write! I really enjoy photograph (when I have good lighting :) )

12 Tasha February 18, 2012 at 2:25 pm

Do you take orders for shipments? Those strawberry muffins look absolutely AMAZING!!

13 KathEats February 18, 2012 at 10:29 pm

We don’t do shipping yet, but perhaps someday

14 Tasha February 18, 2012 at 2:26 pm

Actually everything looks amazing!

15 Lauren February 18, 2012 at 2:27 pm

Just stooped by the bakery to get lunch and pick up a loaf of bread. Everything was delicious and you guys were selling out of stuff really fast. Matt recognized me (I was impressed!) and told me that you had been there for a while. Sorry we missed you! :) Have a great trip though. And enjoy the freakishly nice weather!

16 KathEats February 18, 2012 at 10:29 pm

I’m sorry to have missed you!! I waited till about 1pm but had to get on the road. Hope the visit was delicious!

17 Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga February 18, 2012 at 2:31 pm

The pull apart bread or cinn bread, the cinn rolls, the strawberry cream cheese frosting… eeeekkkk! I want it all :)

18 Lindsay @ Running the Windy City February 18, 2012 at 2:41 pm

Strawberry cream cheese frosting?? Yum!

19 Maria@Sinfully Nutritious February 18, 2012 at 2:41 pm

Everything you make Great Harvest looks so great. You also look great! Glowing!!!

20 khushboo February 18, 2012 at 2:43 pm

I forgot how good a ham and cheese sandwich is…although it has to be toasted so the cheese gets nice + gooey!

21 a February 18, 2012 at 2:49 pm

your great harvest – the place and the product – look lovely, fresh and inviting. even more bummed out about my local great harvest now. worlds apart. that’s all i’ll say. perhaps it’s a blessing in disguise – saving me from countless (though wholesome and delicious) calories. glass half-full? anyway, well done and congrats.

22 KathEats February 18, 2012 at 10:30 pm

Thank you…I’m sorry your location is underwhelming :(

23 Brittnie (A Joy Renewed) February 18, 2012 at 2:54 pm

So many delicious foods in this post – cinnamon-sugar anything is an all time favorite of mine so that bread and the cinnamon buns look absolutely amazing.

Funny you noticed a difference in one day…. so did my husband. This was his comment to me yesterday “Wow you really look pregnant… like you really look big. It happened overnight” Ha… thanks babe. :)

24 JessicaE February 18, 2012 at 2:57 pm

Aw you look great and so happy. My waist and torso thickened… but then nothing else really popped till about week 16. :) I look more and more like I have an actual baby in there instead of just a food baby. :)

25 trang February 18, 2012 at 3:17 pm

I thought the tidbit about the ham was cute, as I’m sure you’ve sense there’ll be criticism if you hadn’t mentioned it. Also, I’m noticing little changes to your blog and love the additions! Small, but effective. And you look lovely, glowing these days! Have a great weekend. =)

26 Karen February 18, 2012 at 3:21 pm

You look glowing! when are you revealing the baby blog!?!

27 KathEats February 18, 2012 at 10:30 pm

Hopefully a week from now!

28 Gina @ Running to the Kitchen February 18, 2012 at 3:33 pm

I just made an apple cinnamon swirl bread at home! But that icing on those buns definitely takes the cake :)

29 Hillary February 18, 2012 at 3:33 pm

My boyfriend told me he’ll bake something for me this weekend, as part of my belated V-day gift. I just saw those cinnamon buns and told him that’s what I want! HAH!

30 Emily @ Life on Food February 18, 2012 at 3:50 pm

I wish the Great Harvest near me had cinnamon rolls. Those looks so delicious. As does the strawberry frosting!

31 Kerry @ Totes My Oats February 18, 2012 at 3:51 pm

You are glowing, Kath! All of those baked goods look absolutely delicious!

32 Sylvia @ My Attempt at Balanced Living February 18, 2012 at 3:52 pm

After watching some of the other preggo bloggers, I’m giggling a little about your itty bitty belly :) (in a good way I promise) I can’t wait to see what you say 4 months from now! You look fantastic . . . as does that cinnamon swirl bread . Have a great trip!

33 KathEats February 18, 2012 at 10:30 pm

You gotta start somewhere!

34 Tracy February 18, 2012 at 3:55 pm

That’s a cute pic with you and the guy standing by the bread racks holding your bellies.

35 Lauren February 18, 2012 at 4:08 pm

I had no idea about the lunch meat trick. Good to know!

36 Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife February 18, 2012 at 4:09 pm

I SO want those cinnamon buns!! YUMM.

37 Amelia February 18, 2012 at 4:11 pm

Lots of yummy bakery treats! I think all of your belly pics should be like the last pic. 😉 j/k.

38 Jasper @ crunchylittlebites February 18, 2012 at 4:16 pm

42 Aylin @ Glow Kitchen February 18, 2012 at 5:04 pm

Cinnabuns look amazing!

43 Diane February 18, 2012 at 5:25 pm

I have followed your site for a couple of years but haven’t been here in awhile. I just found out I am pregnant and wanted some meal ideas since nothing sounds good to eat. And bam! Your pregnant too. Congrats. I can’t wait for BERF and now I know I am not going crazy with my veggie aversion.

44 KathEats February 18, 2012 at 10:31 pm

Congrats to you too!

45 Katie February 18, 2012 at 5:30 pm

You definitely have the pregnancy glow! I remember the tight poking out belly feeling, just wait until he or she really is poking you! I had occasional cravings for deli meat and heated it up first, plus hot ham and cheese (or grilled or toasted on GH bread of course) is definitely better than cold. Does pink frosting mean that maybe it’s a girl? Just an early prediction and idea for shower food.

46 KathEats February 18, 2012 at 10:31 pm

Haha – if it is a girl Matt will have to make them again for me!

47 Karen February 18, 2012 at 5:30 pm

Ha…Alex cracks me up every time! He’s adorable!

You look absolutely glowing, but I’d never have guessed you were pregnant if I hadn’t known how flat-stomached you are normally.

Safe travels!

49 Simply Life February 18, 2012 at 5:46 pm

wow! all of those bakery goods look SO good! I’m tempted to lick the screen :)

50 Samantha February 18, 2012 at 6:43 pm

Ohhhh everything from the bakery looks so yummy! I’m hungry now!

51 Mindy February 18, 2012 at 7:08 pm

Haven’t had a ham and cheese in a while. Sounds delicious. I’m loving the “bump” photo!

52 Moira February 18, 2012 at 8:01 pm

Hoping to pop into the bakery this week…can you give me a rundown on what is dairy free?

53 KathEats February 18, 2012 at 10:33 pm

You’re best bet will be to talk to our staff so they can tell you exactly what we have that day. Dakota, Honey, High Five, Cville Crunch, Whole Grain Goodness, Cinnamon Raisin Walnut, Very Berry <— they should all be dairy free (but double check!) Obviously the cheesy breads are not. Most of our sweets have eggs and/or butter, but I think some might not have butter.

54 The Healthy Apple February 18, 2012 at 8:37 pm

You look fabulous! Yea for your cute belly. Love it. And those bakery treats look amazing, Kath; my mouth is watering. So yummy.
Be safe in the snow.

55 Crystal February 18, 2012 at 9:27 pm

I’m jealous that you have all of those amazing sandwich ingredients at your fingertips all the time. I desperately want to try the tofu and curried tuna sandwiches.

By the way, I enjoyed a big pile of roasted kale chips doused in ketchup with dinner tonight. I would never have thought to add ketchup, but it really is the perfect combination!

56 Laurie February 18, 2012 at 9:42 pm

My daughter and I went to our Great Harvest today. No where near as appealing. I tasted the Irish Soda which was amazing, bought the Woodstock, which was good, not amazing and of course a loaf of cinnamon swirl! If all GH use the same cinnamon swirl recipe, my daughters friends mom developed that recipe for her company Montana Mills which was bought by Krispy Kreme and somehow the recipes may have been sold to GH! I like your loaves. Ours are round which I find to be a pain!

57 KathEats February 18, 2012 at 10:33 pm

I can’t wait till we make Irish Soda in March!!

58 KathEats February 18, 2012 at 10:35 pm

Oh and cool about the recipe! I’m sure if it’s not the same one, it’s very close

59 Lexi @ Cura Personalis Foodie February 18, 2012 at 11:03 pm

Oh my gosh, those baked goods look fantastic! Can I just have a bowl of that strawb frosting to go? 😀

60 Angel7 February 18, 2012 at 11:19 pm

Do you and Matt sell a lot of sandwiches? What is your best seller overall?

61 KathEats February 19, 2012 at 8:54 am

We do. Dakota and Honey bread are our best sellers. But on the sandwich front people seem to like Turkey + Cheese more than any of the more interesting ones! The Monticello Garden is #2 though and Curried Tuna is not far behind

62 Katie @ Talk Less, Say More February 18, 2012 at 11:24 pm

That cinnamon swirl bread looks SO good!! I need to learn to bake my own bread…I just love it so much!

63 Lauren February 19, 2012 at 2:11 am

There is nothing that looks better than a spread of bakery goods. The cinnamon buns especially look delicious! Now if only the internet could learn to capture the smell of them as well….

64 Cait's Plate February 19, 2012 at 8:01 am

Love the belly shot! :)

And oh my, that cinnamon swirl bread looks AWESOME. It’s looks so doughy and chewy and delicious!

65 Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count February 19, 2012 at 9:50 am

That cinnamon swirl looks delicious!

66 Christina February 19, 2012 at 4:01 pm

Your barely-there tummy is too cute!

That first picture just made me so hungry. :)
