Good morning!
I could have used another hour of sleep and another glass of water, but the show must go on. We’re slicing bread for the Women’s 4 Miler training program this morning – 700 runners are expected! I was hoping to run the race this year, but I’ll probably be needed to slice at the finish instead!
I had a moderately light breakfast today because I’m not sure of my own running plans when I get back in a bit. I like to have 3 big meals a day with an occasional snack if meals are far apart, but it seems that grazing fits this bakery lifestyle a little better. Both from an unpredictability standpoint and a “if I’m going to nibble on bread I probably should hold off on bread with lunch too” standpoint. Balance out the meals and snacks a little better.
In the bowl: yogurt, strawberries, half a banana, Cville Cluster granola, chia seeds. Refresh!
Hasta la vista!

Loving the personalized spoon, Kath! It’s so cute!
Have a great time at the race!
Looks like a great breakfast! Have a great weekend.
Haha I love living the grazing lifestyle, and I dont even work in a bakery
love the spoon as always!
I’m somewhat of a grazer from time to time too. I like to eat 5-6 small meal/snacks!
You should totally run the women’s 4 miler if you get the opportunity. I ran it twice while I was a student at UVA. Its a very empowering race! I’m jealous of all your C’ville adventures. BTW have you tried Aromas yet? Its a Mediterranean restaurant on the downtown mall. My favorite was always the bellydancer salad.
I signed up for the race, and yes,I’ve been to Aromas! Check the Cville page
Hi Kath. I must say that I have always loved your blog, but love it even more after your opening of Great Harvest.
Also, you seem to have a such a healthy attitude towards eating, and not eating mindlessly at night. I strggle with eating too much late at night, and was wondering if you had any advice for not doing so? thanks!
I have a tough love approach to questions like this – just don’t do it!! You have to make the decision that you’d like to make a positive change and once you do it’s easy. You can trick yourself with things like brushing your teeth or not stocking your fridge, but when it comes down to it you have to realize that mindless snacking is not something you want or need to be doing.
+1
Also take a look at what you’re eating throughout the day. Are you physically or mentally hungry at night? Are you eating enough fruits/veggies/whole grains/lean proteins throughout the day?
Sometimes keeping a journal for a couple of days will help you realize what’s causing you to want to eat, whether that’s an emotional reason or a physical hunger reason.
thank you Kath. You are right that I need to “want” to make that change. When the decision seems so black or white, it makes it much easier to want to make that positive change.
thank you as well, Sarah!
Good morning to you too! It’s a nice day in Charlottesville, enjoy being outside!
I also wanted to let you know that the bread we picked up yesterday is amazingly delicious……I had never had Great Harvest before and I now love it! Of course, I don’t think anyone elses bread can top yours
Oh good!!
I love the spoon! So adorable!!
Looks wonderful. I hope you guys have a successful and fun Saturday!
Hi Kath,
Do you have suggestions for a breakfast that is good for someone with no appetite in the morning? I eat six times a day, but breakfast is hard.I need the calories, but everything is so unapealing or heavy. Particularly since I have a very weak digestive system.
spoon! it must be weird for anyone else to eat with it!
Yum! Breakfast looks great! Enjoy the race!
I really love that spoon! Enjoy the race festivities.
Happy slicing! I’m sure the bread alone is enough motivation for the racers to cross the finish line
I ADORE that Kath Eats spoon. Was that custom made somewhere?
Hope this morning goes well for you and your one-hour-too-little sleep doesn’t catch up to you too much! I admire how hard you work and still keep a positive attitude Kath!
Yup!
Have fun slicing bread this morning! I’m sure that’s a highlight for the runners!
I’m definitely a ’3 big meals a day with a small snack’ kind of girl, too. I used to do the 6 meals a day thing when I was working with a personal trainer but the planning was such a pain in the butt. I kept thinking about figuring out the next snack! sitting down to a BIG meal is so much fun.
Looks tasty! I used to be a 3-big-meals-a-day kind of girl, but I far prefer the grazing thing now too. Have fun at the race!
Slicing bread for 700? Just a small task, indeed
Thanks for the comment reply on the last post re Lightroom and 1 word vs. Photoshop. I have PS on my computer but it’s its’ own animal and I havent even embarked on how to being with it. I am just now getting pretty proficient at LR…but need/want to learn PS, too!
Thanks for coming out & slicing this morning. Knowing there was going to be yummy bread at the end made that hot run a lot easier. You should register for the race if you can. It fills up super fast & you can always back out if you need to slice. There is always a waiting list so it is not a big deal if you decide not to run it.
It was good to see you! I just signed up for the race too!
Awesome! That race is amazing. There is such a wide range of people from super fast runners to women that have just completed treatment for breast cancer. It was easily my favorite race & it is hella cool that all the money raised stays local.
THAT SPOON IS AWESOME! i love items that are unique…. i had anice wintery ‘O’ inspired bowl of oats this morning…. ‘O’ – because Oprah graced us with her presence here in my city of Bloemfontein to receive her doctorate degree from our university – University of the Free State…. and i was there
never thought id be able to see her in real life … even though from a distance…. so my bfast mix was O -oats and O-oatbran, topped with chocolate cheeri’O's cereal and some ‘O’range infused rooiboss tea…..
happy slicing kath!
Have fun slicing lots and lots of bread today. Your breakfast looks delicious!
Oh how I swoon for that spoon. I covet it every time I see it!
the races you slice at always look like such a fun time! You guys are like a gas station fueling up and refueling all those runners! Have a great day
Hope you had a good time this morning – you guys must get to meet so many cool people doing things like that!
Good luck at the race. I’m sure it’ll be crazy busy.
Have a great time! You will probably run out of bread. Great Harvest is awesome!
I’m such a grazer – it actually helps me to avoid overeating as when I have a snack or meal I just think ‘I have more food coming up really soon’.
This mightn’t work for everyone and I still need to be mindful but this way of eating definitely suits me best.
The best blog post ever would be if you acquired enough spoons with words/phrases to write an entire post. You should probably start whittling today…or 3 years ago to make that happen.
Busy morning, wow! Gorgeous breakfast and hope you’re having a blast.
Sounds like a fun day! My Monique had to slice a butt load(as she put it) of bread for the Farmers Market today! She was not to thrilled about it! I hope you have a very nice day ! I just had to tell you your blog always makes me happy and inspires me to eat healthy. I have the workout part down , but I still love to hear your workouts you have planned! You have a wonderful story(life):)
I wish there was GH bread at the end of runs around here! Its been a while since I registered for a race, but today just might have to be that day….
Your breakfast bowl sounds fantastic! I need to restock on the chias.
Have fun at the race today!
Hey, Kath,
I’m in DC and just signed up for the Arganica Farm Club (https://arganica.com/). While they don’t deliver down to Cville, they do have a couple vendors from there. I’d buy breads from GH if you guys were to sell through there!
I spoke with them on the phone already! We’re talking about possibilities..
Awesome! I’ll keep my eyes open! Thanks!
I want to put a cute saying on one of our spoons!

Kath, I have such breakfast envy for your breakfasts– they always look so cute and delicious!
When I was a little girl my mom used to collect those souveneir spoons for me and my sister on vacations, that personalized spoon totally reminds me of that!
AWESOME spoon! I’d probably make a point to eat as much spoon-appropriate food as possible just so I could use that, haha.
By the way, love your blog. Reading it is literally one of my go-to mood boosters, and I look forward to it all day every day. It’s also excellent motivation for me to work hard on my own [just getting started] blog!
Thank you!
YOUR OATMEAL IS THE BEEESSSSTTTTT!!!!! I LOVE YOUR BLOG SO MUCH!!!!!
Have a great weekend!
Can you tell me where to order spoons like that?
I got it on Etsy, although I can’t remember the name of the store
Mmm… that looks good. Might have a yogurt + fruit bowl for lunch dessert.
Have fun at the race!
I would eat a sandwich with a salad breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Perfectly balanced to me!
Wow I love that table!!! LOVE!
OKay CUTE spoon!
That yogurt bowl looks yummy! I need to buy some chia seeds to try out
So, you guys are open on the 5th of July right and you’ll be there? Because I just want to be sure so I can stop by and say hi and buy some goodies
.
I was never much of a grazer until I started a busy job too. Now I just have to try to sneak in bites of food in between helping customers.
