Speaking Of Spanish…

September 11, 2009

After more work, a 30 minute walk to the grocery store and back for veggie + hummus platter ingredients, and getting dressed, we set out for our evening excursion.

First stop: the running store. I came home with the Asiacs. The guy was NOT happy that I ran on dirt with my shoes :( Hopefully all of my nerves survive this pair!

After our grocery store walk, I was starving and had an ota.bar in the car up to tide me until dinner. PB + Banana were delish!

IMG_2101 (640x480)

We arrived as Las Ramblas 30 minutes too early and decided to get a drink at the bar (a walk was debated but we were walked out and drinks were preferred)

IMG_2104 (480x640)

This is my new favorite Charlotte restaurant!!!!!! Awesome menu, cool decor  good service!

I ordered a glass of the Atteca Zin, which I’ve had before and loved. My first glass was a bit on the old side and while I hate to do it, I told the bartender and asked for a fresh glass. She was happy to open a new bottled and comped our drinks, so we were totally impressed!

IMG_2109 (480x640)

The fresh glass rocked 😉

IMG_2115 (480x640)

Matt, of course, got a brew.

The Sweetwater from ATL

IMG_2112 (480x640)

Then Larbs and her friends arrived!

IMG_2119 (640x480)

More wine was served

IMG_2121 (640x480)

IMG_2123 (640x480)

IMG_2122 (640x480)

I ordered the Spinach + Arugula salad with Fried Goat Cheese to start. The salad was pretty small for eight whole dollars, but at least the goat cheese was awesome.

IMG_2125 (640x480)

Matt and I shared a pizza for our main course, which was also small, but what we were expecting. It had smoked salmon, chorizo, olives, and cheese, among other delights. And it was delicious.

IMG_2128 (640x480)

IMG_2127 (640x480)

I had another splash of wine, which put me from tipsy to drunk in 5 minutes! GAH I can’t handle more than a large glass anymore!!! 1.5 glasses is my demise.

IMG_2130 (640x480)

We were planning to meet our friends at the Annual Greek Festival, but I discovered that Matt has to get up in 6 hours for work, so I said we should just go home.

I’m pretty tired too. ‘Twas a long day! Nighty night!

You are a determined customer today. I don’t feel bad about doing things like sending back a drink, I always do it politely and I figure – I paid for it right?!?!

3 Jenna September 11, 2009 at 9:16 pm

I’m exhausted also, almost sleepy time for this g’ma.

I love Greek food! Gahh! There is a Greek festival here in Minneapolis tomorrow, but I’m not sure I’ll be able to go, because the GOPHERS ARE PLAYING!! :)

Those shoes look great. Can’t wait to hear what you think of them.

¡Que fabuloso! Spanish food is the way to go! Tapas is one of my favorite ways to eat…especially when goat cheese is involved. Glad you had a great night!

That decor reminds me of the flamenco bar my friends and I frequented while studying in Sevilla Spain. I get giddy every time I see the Spanish flag.

Glad you had a blast and got new shoes too!

Looks like a fun dinner!

And FRIED goat cheese!? HOLY YUM!

13 Deb (Smoothie Girl Eats Too) September 11, 2009 at 10:50 pm

I’m with you. If a wine is oxidized, it goes back. No questions asked. if it smells like wet dog, dirty gym back or wet rags…sayanara and they have to open a new bottle. This is especially true with cheaper wines- they oxidize much faster (like within a day without proper preserving systems!). But of course they usually only offer the cheaper wine by the glass, so it’s a catch-22!! Argh! Anyway, you did the right thing!

14 Deva (Voracious Vorilee) September 11, 2009 at 11:00 pm

I love the decor in that restaurant. Glad you got everything with your shoes straightened out, fingers crossed that this pair works out well for you!

15 Biz September 11, 2009 at 11:21 pm

17 Angharad (Eating for England) September 11, 2009 at 11:40 pm

That’s ace that they comped your drinks happily – nothing worse than old red wine! Pizza and salad sounds perfect right now…I’ll have to wait til tomorrow night for that!

18 Jenna September 12, 2009 at 12:09 am

looks like sucha cool restaurant!

19 BroccoliHut September 12, 2009 at 12:19 am

Love the decor–that is one awesome chandelier!

20 Krissy (Single Serving) September 12, 2009 at 12:22 am

I just bought the same shoes. They fit me like slippers. So comfortable. Hope you feel the same way about them after the last pair!

21 Jenn (www. j3nn.net ) September 12, 2009 at 2:28 am

I wish we had restaurants like that closer to us. :( That goat cheese ball looks sooo good, I bet the cheese oozed out! The pizza looks awesome, too. Yummmm

22 Katharina September 12, 2009 at 3:03 am

The little porcupine is adorable! The fried goat cheese sounds incredible. Have you ever tried fried manchego? It’s awesome! Especially served with a mango coulis – Just reminiscing :p

23 Julia September 12, 2009 at 3:42 am

I love fried goat cheese!

have a great weekend! xxx Julia (Taste of Living)

24 Alison September 12, 2009 at 6:14 am

Your meal looks quite tasty; the fried goat cheese, especially. My sister lives in Charlotte and raves about Las Ramblas.

25 Rebecca September 12, 2009 at 6:47 am

That place looks like fun! That’s awesome that the bartender comped your drinks. The salad is tiny for $8! I’m glad it was good.

26 Emily, homecookedem September 12, 2009 at 7:46 am

Sweetwater!! Nice call Matt!! Which one did he get? Kath, you should try Sweetwater Blue! It’s a blueberry beer!! It’s probably my favorite beer!! Ya’ll should come down to Atlanta and visit the brewery… it’s so much fun there!!!!

That pizza looks great!

27 Jenna September 12, 2009 at 7:55 am

this looks like such a fun restaurant! I need to visit charolotte!! It seems like you have so many fun restaurants there.

28 CaSaundra September 12, 2009 at 7:58 am

That restaurant does have some cool decor–love it :-)

29 Lauren September 12, 2009 at 8:16 am

Oh my gosh, I wouldn’t feel bad at all about asking the bartender for a fresh glass. Seriously, when you are paying $10 or more for a glass of good wine, you want it to be good, not just “drinkable!”

Looks like a great restaraunt and a great night with good friends.

Have a lovely Saturday!

30 Regina September 12, 2009 at 8:29 am

I have those same exact Asics and they are the best, comfiest shoes I’ve ever owned!

31 skinnyrunner September 12, 2009 at 8:30 am

what a fun restaurant and cute pictures! i love fried goat cheese, yum. i had some at emeril’s restaurant in las vegas in the same type of salad, best part of the meal hands down.

32 Kristin (Kristins Nibbles) September 12, 2009 at 9:06 am

I LOVE the hedgie in all your pics! Never fails to make me smile =)

Dinner looks fab, sounds like a great night!

33 Kath September 12, 2009 at 10:06 am

The 420 I believe??

34 Caroline September 12, 2009 at 12:19 pm

I’ve been running in those Asics since June and don’t love them nearly as much as the pair I switched them out for. I had been running in the same model that was 2 or 3 years older. Now my shins are giving me trouble… It’s been too long to try to swap the shoes out at the running store and I can’t afford more until I get some Christmas money. I hope you have better luck with them!

35 Madelin @ What is for breakfast? September 12, 2009 at 10:54 pm

Love my Asics, nothing beats them!!!!!!!! I totally would have spoken up about the wine too. I hate it when they give the dregs of an old bottle that has been sitting around for ages. Yuk
