Songs Of Cheese

Fun times in KERFland today :)

Some cleaning….

Some dancing… new Glee cast radio station on Pandora that is now turning into all musicals!!! We’ve been virtually singing on Twitter! Note that it has taken priority over my “Whatcha Say” radio from earlier this week!

image

And some eating!

IMG_9287 (640x427)

I opened this can of Amy’s Split Pea that the company sent for me to try. I’ve got a handful of samples to review!

IMG_9275 (640x427)

Y’all know I am a huge skeptic of canned soups, but I have to say, for a canned soup, with onions, this was excellent. Great thickness and good flavor – esp. with some hot sauce!

IMG_9281 (640x427)

I had half the can..

IMG_9282 (640x427)

To go with my soup….CHEESE + DOUGH!

IMG_9283 (640x427)

I also received a sample of these Beemster Gourmet Dutch Cheeses

IMG_9276 (640x427)

I chose the X-O ["Extra Old"] – aged for twenty-six months I might add!

IMG_9278 (640x427)

I toasted a spelt Great Harvest bun and then broiled the cheese on top…total heaven. I ate every little nibble off of the wax rind. The notes say that the cheese has flavors of butterscotch, whiskey and pecan. I CONCUR! It was like a mix of parmesan and sharp cheddar and butter!

Matt and I are going on an adventure in a few hours – including dinner at an unusual place where we have a coupon!

See y’all for dinner. Happy Friday!

I have the Glee Cast station on my Pandora too! :)

By the way, I made your kale + garlic + apple cider vinegar + agave dish, and the hubby loved it!
The only bad thing is that kale reduces down (like spinach), and we didn’t have enough. :(

Kath, you just made me so hungry. And I don’t want anything but a WW english muffin with that cheese on it. All your fault. In a good way of course. :)

Hi, I’ve been following you for a short time but have never commented…
I agree, the Amy’s brand soups are surprisingly tasty…You should also try the Lentil variety if you haven’t already. It’s pretty darn good!

Those Dutch cheeses look divine! :)

I like your meal. Kath, what are your thoughts on food combining? Some nutritionists promote that to improve digestion food-combining rules should be followed (no fruit with anything but alone, starches and proteins should not mix, etc.) And what are your thoughts on all these protein shakes and powders? I see them on the blogs a lot , but have a strong belief in real food. Maybe you could share some thoughts in a post if you are ever able. Thanks Kath.

Kath, I love your blog. You are one of the first to inspire me to start my own. I would ask you to check it out but you are a busy, popular one in the blog-world, so that would be an honor :)
I just bought some Amys split Pea soup in the lower-sodium variety, I am interested in trial it.

I made a soup with a lot of onions (http://rhodeygirltests.com/2009/11/19/butternut-squash-soup/) and when I tasted I thought to myself that you would absolutely HATE it! It is SOOO good though (for an onion lover…..)

I love that your entire lunch was eaten from samples/products to review!!!! :)

I love Pandora! I made my own RENT station because I saw the musical a couple of weeks ago and can’t get it out of my head, and lots of other musicals and the Glee cast show up on there, love it! :)

Oh yay, they call that cheese “extra-old.” That’s what we call “sharp” or “mature” cheese in Canada. I guess it doesn’t sound as appetizing, but that’s what it is – old!! :P (and delicious, I might add)

How do you age cheese? I’ve always wondered. I hate to clean and desperately need to do it. I say burn it and start over ;)

P.s. I’m having a big bad giveaway that involves a machine that can make you ALL the La Croix’s you can ever drink in your lifetime!! (I know cuz i’m a big fan of your blog AND the drink itself) hehehe Stop by if you’re interested! Have a fabulous weekend Kath!

I love the way the cheese melted. Have you ever tried aged Gouda? don’t waste your time on anything less than 2 yrs. 5 is better. it’ll change your life.

carrie,
I think food combining is one tiny bit of research stretched waaaaaay out of proportion. So maybe fruit digests it’s absolute best on an empty stomach, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t digest WELL with a bunch of other foods! Our digestive system is stronger than we think and we have enzymes and organs to help digest everything at once. I admit I haven’t read up on the subject, but from what I have learned about the GI tract in my classes, there’s no reason to avoid combining foods.

I’m also not a fan of protein powders of any form. That said, I don’t think there’s anything wrong or bad with them, but I wouldn’t choose to spend my money on them (with the except of maybe Amazing Grass because I think the benefit there goes beyond the protein – into the greens themselves – and I have acquired a preference for the taste! But if I want protein in my shake I will add milk, soy milk or yogurt.

Cathleen,
Normally Mrs. Meyers in a spray bottle, but I got a sample of the Method wood included in my new mop and I like it a lot. It adds a bit of polish. But I sure use it up fast!

Deb,
Ohhhhh yeaaaaaahh ;)

Kath,

I had to make a quick comment about food combining. I would agree that food combining may not be necessary for an individual with a robust digestive track, but those with weaker digestive system would benefit from a proper food combination. I am a walking example of it, following food combining guildlines has saved my life and saved me from having to remove 3/4 of my colon.

Just adding in my 2 cents

Good point – it may be appropriate for those who have clinical reasons. I’m glad you have had a good experience!
