Hi Kath

I thought I commented earlier (last night) but I guess it didn't post. I just wanted to say that I dont think you really need to worry about any of the extra snacking. It seems like you are working out more than you may have in years past and you should take that into consideration. As a runner, I know that I will be more hungry between meals if I have had a hard workout.

Have a great time in Asheville!

Every Gym's Nightmare,
(I normally copy and past the names so I don't have to type them so I hope you don't mind I call you that - but I know you're Kelly!!)

The roasted garbanzos are from OhNuts.com.

DG ,
The kale salad was semi-homemade. I basically just steamed kale and wax beans and tossed them in a store-bought peanut satay (EarthFare brand). There were a few leftover spelt berries involved and some roasted garbanzos, which got kind of soggy. But basically you could make a peanut sauce and simulate it. It was pretty good, I thought!

Sami ,
We've already got dinner and tomorrow's lunch picked out, so I don't know if we'll have time for Flying Frog but I will surely remember it for our next visit.

We've eaten at Tupelo Honey and Early Girl before. Laughing Seed is my FAV!

Sorry the popovers didn't turn out!! The recipe has to be EXACT because the weight:liquid ratio has to be perfect. Maybe look across the internet for a few more? We also used a popover pan and not a muffin tin, which might have helped.

kate(the teenager),
I think it's way too early to get excited. The Whole Foods in Elizabeth fell through and the one in SouthPark still has apartments on teh land where its supposed to be built. They are saying construction wont' even START until 2010. Here's a recent article:

http://www.charlotte.com/business/story/686313.html

Apparently only CLT, Va. Beach and Riverside, CA are the only major metro areas to not have a WF!!

Laker ,
Since it's made from wine, it does taste like wine, but you should give it a try!! The wine-soaked fruit is amazing. You might like white sangria more than red.

Laker--I find some sangria to be fairly boozy/winy tasting. You might try a little to see if the fruity-ness takes some of the edge off, though. It is a nice summer drink.

Kath--wine plus company plus hot weather is a disaster recipe for me with snacking! I find myself snacking a lot more with the hot weather (we don't have AC, so it's constant heat) since I often don't have much of an appetite for a real meal. Lately I'll have a healthy snack if I didn't have a regular meal recently, but I still want to be able to fit into my clothes come fall! The heat messes with my appetite so much!

Have a fantastic weekend! Asheville sounds very fun!

I second the recommendation to go to Early Girl or Tupulo Honey Cafe. I suggest Tupulo...for the sweet potato pancakes!!! Early Girl...for lunch...black bean cakes! Have fun in my favorite mountain town!
p.s. A Biltmore wine tasting tour is a must-do!

Has anyone tried Dream Whip the whipped topping you make from a box? I have a box that is about to expire and I'm thinking about making a strawberry version of a boston cream pie this weekend.

Has anyone had Sangria? If so, what is it like. I'm talking about Sangria that you buy at the store, not homemade. I DO NOT like wine. I have tried all sorts from reds, to whites, to sweet zinfendels... Is Sangria more fruity? We are having a party at the lake and I'd like to partake in an alcoholic beverage to take the edge off. :) I would drink things like wine coolers except for the fact they are loaded in sugar and HFCS (ICK). Plus, they give me a headache because I drink, well used to drink, too many....

the holidays are definitely to blame for the snacking, I just made it through a 5-day weekend and Canada day pretty much unscathed, but it was hard with all the friends + wine + snacks

I find telling myself that I don't need the chips usually works pretty well, also, snacking on things like fruit or cut up veggies at a party is a great way to go. Luckily, my friends are all health and nutrition-conscious like I am, so the healthy snacks are usually more abundant than the unhealthy ones.

Finally, your scale is your friend. I'm not a fan of weighing myself every day, but keeping the scale around during the holidays is a good way to keep the over-eating in check.
