Strawberries are still ruling my life. And I’m hoping to go picking this week! Must.make.it.happen.
I woke up super thirsty and super hungry today. Makes me wonder if I should be waking up at 3am to satisfy these needs! But nah, I need the sleep more.
I made a lovely bowl of yogurt, banana, Whole Foods Honey Bunches, strawberries, banana, chia seeds and sunflower butter.
Served with a short dark & handsome mug of Irish Breakfast Tea.
After this post, I have one more blog post to write, then a trip out for a few items for dinner, then bakery fun [work], then a long conference call in preparation for a panel I’m speaking on at BlogHer Food and then yoga! All simple tasks lined up in a row for a complete day – how I like ‘em!

that yogurt bowl looks delicious! strawberries have been SO good lately I can’t wait to go strawberry picking as well!
Strawberries have pretty much ruled my life since last summer. I’m so glad they’re officially back in season now because nothing beats fresh!!
I used that same spoon to eat my oatmeal this morning!
Do you have any recommendations for where to go strawberry picking near Cville? I am planning to go this weekend too!
I am researching this right now! A blog friend recommended this place, but it’s an hour away, so I’m not sure if I want to drive that far: http://seamansorchard.com/so_strwberries.html
you can always go to chiles in crozet. if you want a no-spray option, liberty mills farm in somerset, or miller farms in locust grove. i have never been to either of these (just saw it posted on pnoc). we have our own little snacking patch here that the kids love (if you walk by you can have a few and some salad greens too)! i have also heard that new branch farm is no-spray (although not with a pick your own option, they are at saturday farmer’s market). we belong to bellair csa and they have a no-spray pick your own this week.
Thanks for the info!! I believe that Chiles sprays. I just found Liberty Mills and New Branch. Thanks!
PS. I’m walking by this afternoon …probably around 2pm…will text!
I definitely understand your hesitation on the car time. Still, if you make a day (or half-day) of it, and really load up on berries, it might be worth it, especially if the place is using organic practices, not spraying, etc. (conventional strawberries are #3 on the “Dirty Dozen” list of foods to buy organic).
If you have space in the freezer, strawberries are relatively easy to freeze. Just cut the stem out and freeze the whole berries in freezer bags. You can pull out local berries to add to smoothies or make fruit topping for pancakes and waffles all year long. If you don’t have time to pick your own, but still want a larger quantity, you could ask vendors at the farmers’ market about a discount for buying an entire flat of berries.
I’m doing more research….it looks like they spray. I may have found an alternative though.
I still want to try sunflower butter – your blog posts always remind me of the things on my “to try” list!
Sounds like a full but very productive day ahead! I wish I was going to Blog Her Food this year.. it was in my original plans, but then I decided that I’d fly to Vancouver this August for the Lululemon half marathon with one of my long-time girlfriends so blog conferences had to be put on hold. Hoping to make it next year though! Have a great day Kath!
Breakfast of champions!
Your yogurt cereal bowls always look so satisfying!
Good luck with the conference call!
Sunflower butter is soooo good with strawberries! I wish there was a place to pick berries near here. Maybe time for a trip outside the city!
I remember going strawberry picking when I was in summer camp! Haha I actually didn’t like it because it hurt my back, and we had to make sure to have enough for strawberry shortcake for the whole camp!
The color of those strawberries makes my mouth water just looking at them! I think I will add strawberries to my grocery list today!
I love strawberries too, I bought some this weekend and they were so sour, the only way to fix that was eating them with whipped cream!! I also love picking them, my grandparents have a big garden and they grow all the veggies and fuits so I rmmeber as a child I always was so excited fpr the strawberry and cherry season to pick them fresh and eat right away!!
I so want to try the sunflower butter…have to drive into the big city to locate some though! Bummer! Have you tried the crunchy version?
Yeah! I prefer smooth though
soon it will be blueberry season and I might be mildly addicted to picking blueberries!
I had chocolate strawberry oats this morning! Definitely started my day off right! I hope you have a great one Kath!
Yum! Makes me crave some strawberries. I would wake up hungry during pregnancy, usually around 4am, so I would keep a snack bag of dry cereal next to the bed and just take a few handfuls so I wouldn’t have to get out of bed!
Great… Now I’m craving strawberries!!! Thanks Kath!
Breakfast looks good. Do you usually have a snack in between breakfast and lunch?
Rarely. But almost always between lunch and dinner.
Strawberries are a totally acceptable obsession
I’m jealous that you have somewhere near you to pick them!
I can eat peanut butter on just about anything, but yogurt is where I just can’t seem to make it happen! You are the ultimate mixer.
isn’t it the best when work and fun are synonymous?! those strawbs look delicious as ever!!
Such a long list of ingredients in such a small bowl! I love the way you add the “kitchen sink” in your breakfasts!
Ooooh have fun strawberry picking and hope you can make it a reality! DO IT!
Making jam out of strawberries is always a fun part of the picking too!
Your breakfast looks both beautiful and delicious as always!
I have GOT to get to the Farmer’s Market tomorrow!
Tasty looking breakfast bowl!
Sounds like a busy day.
I see that you had a good fuel before you get started!
You cannot beat a good cup of Irish tea! What brand do you drink? If possible, I think anyone who likes tea should try and get their hands on Barry’s Gold Blend. What real Irish lads and lassies drink!
Your yogurt bowls always looks super yummy! Do you always use plain Greek yogurt?
It was Golden Moon brand
I mostly use plain with a few Siggi’s flavors thrown in (disclosure they sent us some flavors to try at the bakery, but I also do buy theirs when I’m in the mood. Orange + Ginger is my fav)
Seriously contemplating BlogHer! Have you written any posts about your experiences in the past?
Yeah, check my Blog Events page!
sunflower butter is amazing!!!!
Agreed! I have a hard time diversifying these days
You always make your breakfast look so delightful! I cant help but wonder… do you ever get tired of putting a picture up everyday and such? I always wonder how you have the time!
Not really
The photography and editing is my favorite part of blogging. Writing comes with a bit more challenge.
I’m guessing she has the time since it’s her job!
Loving the fresh strawberries too. Today I made Strawberry Cheesecake Bars, vegan, low calorie, gluten free, and totally delicious. They are debuting on my What I Ate Wenesday blog post tomorrow! Can’t wait to share them.
When I was preggo I always needed a night time snack!!! It was so annoying to get out of bed and get a piece of toast w pb or ab or mug of cereal but I needed it!
Sometimes I wake up at 3 am because of my hunger, so I have to go to the kitchen and make a snack. It happens even when I have a snack before bed. It’s so annoying!
Almost strawberry season here — I can’t wait! They look scrumpdillyicious!
I am going to call our local farm to see about strawberry picking. Our daughter loves to pick blueberries with me, so I am sure she will love picking strawberries as well!
