Shhhh…You’ll Wake Gilbert

May 7, 2009

Doesn’t look like the Loveducks are scared of Gilbert –

As for me, I tip-toed through the yard, scanning every bush, and got in my car, slowly turned it on in case Gilbert was in the engine, and left for the gym at 7:30. I should have biked, as our front had just passed through, but the bike was in the GARAGE!!

I spent 26 minutes on the Stepmill, 20 on the elliptical, and my “i”m outta time” lifting routine: pull-ups, dips + jumping lunges. I hurried home to have a quick breakfast because I have to leave by 9:30 for a doctor’s appointment.

I picked something quick: cereal!

IMG_5774 (1024x768)

This about about 1.25 cups of this new Kamut Flakes cereal by US Mills –

IMG_5767 (1024x768)

Plus a sprinkle of Mix My Granola, blackberries, flax and milk. Oh, and a spoonful of Chocolate Vanilla Almond Butter!

IMG_5773 (1024x768)

I decided on some of my precious Kericho Estate Lipton today – I only have about 5 of these left to bring back memories!

IMG_5771 (1024x768)

Too bad I had to rush through this :(

Hopefully I’ll be brave enough to park in the garage when I get home!

Kath- don’t feel too bad about avoiding the garage…I’ve been known to do the same for a SPIDER!

Breakfast looks yummy! Have a great day!

2 Moran (The Running Addict) May 7, 2009 at 8:37 am

4 Erica May 7, 2009 at 8:42 am

Snakes scare me too!!! I don’t blame you for parking outside :) Love your bfast bow- so pretty! Where is it from?

5 K May 7, 2009 at 8:43 am

Oh goodness, I just caught up on last night’s post – a snake would have made me jump out of my skin! Hope the snake is gone!!

6 Courtney (The Hungry Yogini) May 7, 2009 at 8:43 am

Haha I would be doing the same thing =)

Last tea!? Perfect timing..I’m doing a Lipton Tea giveaway today!

7 Abby May 7, 2009 at 8:44 am

Just remember all that crap about them “being more afraid of you than you are of them.” Not sure if I buy it, but that’s what I’m told. As long as he isn’t hording your stash of free samples or slithering through a trail of almond butter, I would consider it fairly safe.
Good luck with that (advice from the girl who does not currently have a snake in her garage.)

8 Mara @ What's For Dinner? May 7, 2009 at 8:49 am

A snake is absolutely reasonable to be completely afraid of! I wouldn’t have gone in the garage either!

9 Lindsay May 7, 2009 at 8:54 am

I love how you name the animal you are scared of….especially such a cute name!

10 Weekly Bite May 7, 2009 at 8:54 am

11 Lyn May 7, 2009 at 8:57 am

I can’t wait for fresh berries! Yummy!

12 Michelle Hisae May 7, 2009 at 8:59 am

Haha, the bike was sacraficed for a snake! Love it.

13 Danielle May 7, 2009 at 9:01 am

Ahh I’d have to move if there was a snake in my house! j/k.
Breakfast looks fabulous as always!

14 Shannon (The Daily Balance) May 7, 2009 at 9:10 am

you are too funny! snakes creep me out, too! I hate the way they move! they can creep up on you with their slithering ways and they are SO FAST! eeeek!

Good luck avoiding him later 😉

15 Ally May 7, 2009 at 9:11 am

I love snakes! Wish I was there to help.

Hope you have a great day!

16 Megan May 7, 2009 at 9:15 am

All this talk about snakes is making me think there are some in this room with me as we speak!! Yuck!

17 Beadie May 7, 2009 at 9:17 am

What do Kamut flakes taste like? I have never had kamut.

18 JENNA May 7, 2009 at 9:23 am

:) I hope you don’t have any run-ins! Especially if no ones home! scary!

19 Run Sarah May 7, 2009 at 9:33 am

I love your cute plate…hope the snake is gone for good!

20 Scoop May 7, 2009 at 9:40 am

I hope that snake moved out of the garage by now.

I’m sure you mentioned it in the past, but do you know whether the Kericho Estate tea is available n the stores now?

21 Meghan (Making Love In The Kitchen) May 7, 2009 at 9:53 am

My neihgbourhood gets overrun with Raccoons when the sun goes down. Not nearly as fun as ducks- though much preferred to snakes.

And you have the cutest dishes!

22 Missy Maintains May 7, 2009 at 9:56 am

So scary about the snake! I need one to get rid of my mice problem though :( Delicious looking breakfast!

23 Jessica May 7, 2009 at 10:01 am

I don’t want to sound insensitive, but I think you have very little to worry about. I know snake phobias are pretty common but I’ve never understood why people have such irrational fear of some animals/critters more than others.

Personally I’m more likely to be afraid of a dog since I’ve actually been attacked by them more than once, but I digress. Try not to worry too much, I promise they’re not as bad as you think.

Of course, this comes from a former snake owner and lover of snakes/spiders/mice and all critters everyone else seems to hate. I just want them to be loved is all :)

24 life coach jen May 7, 2009 at 10:11 am

I hope Gilbert knows what’s best for him and heads on out to a place far, far away from your home!

25 Jenny May 7, 2009 at 10:17 am

Hi Kath!
I just got the same camera as you and am looking for a case. I was wondering if you could tell me what kind of case you have. Thanks! I hope you have a terrific day without any snakes!

26 Bec May 7, 2009 at 10:17 am

Your breaky looks fantastic!

27 Lydia May 7, 2009 at 10:22 am

Do you like any other greek yogurts? i saw the Chobani and like it, but there seems to be a lot of sugar. I wrote to the company who said that the sugar is “all natural” from cow’s milk and the fruit. The ingredients list sugar first THEN the fruit. What are your thoughts on this? The only other yogurt I’ll eat is Stonyfield.

28 Krissie May 7, 2009 at 10:23 am

Hi! New reader here. Just wanted to say I L-O-V-E your dishes! Too cute. 😉

29 skinnyrunner May 7, 2009 at 10:26 am

love the cute bowl and hate the snake. id be having a freak out still today.

30 Kristan Anne May 7, 2009 at 10:29 am

I’m kind of a hot tea virgin, so don’t laugh, but why does your tea look creamy like that? Is it the tea variety, or do you mix something in it? I usually drink green teas, and I only add splenda to it.

I’m looking to change it up soon.

ps – your bowl is so pretty!

31 Runeatrepeat May 7, 2009 at 10:56 am

I would have totally freaked out if there was a snake in my garage! Aaah!

32 Lydia May 7, 2009 at 11:07 am

Here is their response on the Chobani.
Thanks, Kath.

Hi Lydia,

Thanks for your great question! We add no sugar to Chobani Greek yogurt. The 7g of sugar that’s listed on our nonfat plain label is from lactose, which is a naturally occurring sugar found in all milk products.

In our fruit-on the-bottom varieties, we use real fruit (which also contains natural sugar) and lightly sweeten it with evaporated cane juice so there is NO refined sugar in Chobani.

Hope this helps.

33 meg May 7, 2009 at 11:18 am

Hope all goes well at the doctor! I need to try those Kamut flakes!

34 Kara May 7, 2009 at 11:42 am

Eeew I had a dream the other night that I was being “chased: by snakes! And I didn’t even think I was scared of them! I was wrong…

35 erin May 7, 2009 at 11:52 am

I’m like you- despise onions, and especially snakes. I rather eat an onion than deal with a snake! *shudders* I wouldn’t be brave enough to step foot in the garage!

36 Jessica May 7, 2009 at 11:58 am

I am super freaked by snakes, even ones that have cute names!!!!

I just ordered some Mix My Granola for my Mom for Mother’s Day. I am excited to see how she likes it! It was sooo much fun to make, they have TONS of options!

37 Hallie May 7, 2009 at 11:58 am

Lovely breakfast! We’re restocking our whole kitchen after termite tenting (ugh…) so I was stuck with instant oatmeal for breakfast. Not the same, man…not the same.

I actually like snakes…just not unexpected ones! If they’re in a zoo or somone’s pet, that’s one thing. In a garage or a hiking trail…yikes! But snakes are a sign of a healthy and biodiverse habitat…so I guess that’s good news for your garden lol :-)

38 Help Meghan Run May 7, 2009 at 12:07 pm

Oh good luck with Gilbert. And is that chocolate vanilla almond butter as delicious as it sounds?

39 Jess May 7, 2009 at 12:53 pm

I have to rush through my cereal breakfast almost every morning. It’s a bummer, but still delicious.

40 Liz May 7, 2009 at 12:57 pm

Did you realize that you have had several spelling mistakes since you say the snake?? You must be scared because you never have any. Don’t stress, it’s just a creature and I’m sure Matt will be able to drive him out. Maybe he will be the St. Patrick of your garage….

41 Kath May 7, 2009 at 2:26 pm

Erica ,

Beadie ,
Like a heartier, crunchier wheat flake??

Scoop ,
I don’t think it is :( Most of the tea is blended with other plantations that is sold in stores.

Jessica ,
I am not afraid of snakes, spiders and the like outdoors – it’s when I am TRAPPED inside with them that they terrify me.

Jenny ,
Here’s the one I have. I think there might be one that’s better fitted for my camera, but this one is big enough to fit a cord too:

Thanks and welcome!

Kristan Anne ,
Milk!! I usually add a splash to my tea.

Lydia ,
That’s exactly what I would have said – glad you found out!

erin ,
Hahhahaha – I’d rather eat an onion too!

Help Meghan Run
OMG yes – it’s divine!!

Liz ,
Oops! I must be frazzled.

42 Heather May 7, 2009 at 3:57 pm

I don’t blame you about the scary garage! We once had a squirrel in our basement that got upstairs (trust me, that was a crazy experience), and I wouldn’t go in our basement for 5 YEARS! Yes, I was only 4 when it happened and I was tramatized, but stil… 😉

43 Kristan Anne May 7, 2009 at 6:26 pm

Thanks darlin! I think I will try that. :)
