See any sharks?
We just finished a lengthy discussion of The Raw Shark Texts. After over an hour, we still can’t come to any conclusions on the plot. It was an interesting book for sure. I loved all parts about it – except the plot! I am a stickler for plot, so that was an unfortunate thing not to love ; )
This afternoon we went out to see the ocean – it’s about time!
I also am now the family photographer!! More headshots were requested – including the inn’s owner, Rod!
After a chilly golf cart ride, it was time to roast by the fire
Cocktail hour is received very well with the warmth and cozy flames
We had a figgy brie, sliced Creminelli salami and crackers
As well as some Hint Of Lime chips with leftover dippers
Matt served one his first homebrews – the Maple Nut Squirrale, a rich, sweet, high alcohol brown ale
I had a taste – yum! And then switched to a little bit of red wine
Dinner tonight has been in the making for weeks – Linguini in a Red Clam Sauce as inspired by this recipe I made a while back.
Served with a side salad with bell peppers, walnuts, cranberries, blue cheese and a homemade balsamic and herby Great Harvest Warrenton bread!
During book club we all dug into the bottomless tin of Christmas cookies! Pumpkin cups, GH chocolate babka, gingerbread squares.
I also meant to post this photo after lunch – a Christmas M&M handful eaten E.T. style!
We depart early tomorrow morning. I had hoped to get in a run, but I’m thinking sleeping in sounds more fun at the moment!
See you for sunrise…

Oh that brie looks fantastic, and that brew sounds awesome.
Enjoy your last evening!
Oh the shots of the beach with the sandgrass and those style of beach houses…that is SO N.C. Brings me back to my former life. It looks so quaint and beautiful…and I am sure you’ve loved every second.
I love the M & M’s shot
haha if only my handful of M&M’s were that small… that is like a handful on a diet not a handful!
Beautiful pictures!
Beautiful ocean pictures! I had brie, figs and french bread as a snack on Sunday. Your presentation is much nicer

The pictures from your vacation make me want to go to the beach ASAP! It looks like you guys are having a blast! I love that you are doing a book club! That is the most fun part of reading, being able to discuss it with others! Have a safe trip back tomorrow!
Hint of lime chips are actually my favourite!! They’re great without any dip as well!
Your pictures always blow me away! Such vivid colors!

I was showing some of your vacation pictures to my little niece and when she saw the headshots of your mom, she asked if she was your sister. She said she looks so young and pretty

Haha, I’d say your new role as the family photographer fits you well. Just add this to your list of skills.
Wow love the appetizers, so pretty.
The ocean pictures have been so consistently gorgeous…makes me wish for spring NOW so I can go to the beach!
Love the M&M bit! Beautiful sunset pic!
Forgive me is this a silly question but how can you like all the parts of the book but not the plot? It has been a while since I have done a book report or joined a book club but it seems like all the “parts” of the book (the characters, the setting, the language) make up the plot.
I disagree! I think you can like the writing style, characters, concept, themes but dislike the direction the author takes with the series of events that occur
So true. I’ve found myself in love with a book’s characters before only to be disappointed by the story about them.
I much prefer to read a book that has well developed characters and/or setting but a sub-par plot than the other way around. If I don’t connect with the characters in a book then I’m not going to love it.
Book clubs are such a fun idea for family vacations! I need to get my family on board to do the same next year.
LOVE the pics of the ocean!
I love the idea of family book club, but I don’t think I could ever get my family to agree on a book (except maybe for Harry Potter!)
what a fun day of family and a delicious looking dinner!
I just checked out the recipe for the pasta dish…it looks like a goodie!
Everything is just beautiful. I am with you on books, ya gotta have a good plot or I am disappointed and probably won’t continue to read it. That brie…oh how I miss thee!
I don’t know why but that salad jumped right out at me. I love that lettuce! haha it looks so good. Beautiful ocean!
Mmmmm….brie….
Is that white pancake looking thing CHEESE? HOLY COW! haha
I’m in love with that dinner – it looks so good!
Love the ET m&m pics! So funny!
I have never commented before until now, because the ET-style of placing M&Ms made me laugh out loud. Movie references rock.
That dinner looks delicious and those pictures look beautiful. Looks like you’re having an awesome time
oooh your linguini looks really yummy! What a lovely escape you have all had
Heidi x
Hahaha loved that bit about the M&Ms! ET always freaked me out though!
That dinner looks absolutely perfect! YUMMY
Kath,
You’re photos have really evolved, they are beautiful. Can you tell me the details of your camera/lens. After seeing the headshots you took I’m convinced that, that is the camera for me!
Happy Holidays
Jenny
Thanks!
I have the Canon DSLR XSI and shoot with the Canon 35mm f/2.0, which I LOVE.
