Our snow is melting away.
So is my stress!
Matt surprised me with a pre-natal massage last week!!! There really isn’t a more perfect gift in the world. One of our customers, Helaine, runs Massage By Helaine here in town, and she gave me a fantastic total body meltdown this morning. THANKS KANZ!
Appointment #1 a success.
Pre-massage snack: nibbles of my everlasting Trek bar and grapes.
And I apologize for being melodramatic, but appointment #2 isn’t that big of a deal – just going to the dentist. Hope I didn’t scare anyone like I did my mom, who thought it was a prenatal appt. I didn’t tell her about. But no offense to Amy the Hygienist, it’s one of my most dreaded appointments. Because you just never know when a cavity will appear, which leads to shots and numbness and $$$! So hopefully I will walk away with a cleaning only.
While I was on the massage table, I dreamed up this lunch. Very similar to the wrap I had last week: whole grain tortilla, 2 eggs [scrambled], mashed avocado, jalapenos, 3 slices cheese, salt and peppa. SO GOOD!
Leftover grits on the side
And a plum that tasted like a mid-summer night’s dream.
Have a melted afternoon!

Yay for massages!! Happy mommy!
That was so nice of Matt! I love massages and I am sure I will appreciate extra pampering when I am pregnant someday!
Aw, that was so thoughtful of Matt! How nice! I like the mashed avocado, looks delicious. I bought 4 plums last Friday and only have 1 left now – sooo refreshing, and I agree, they taste like summer. Good luck at the dentist!!
Massages are the BEST! It’s been far too long since I’ve had one and I’m hoping to go within the next month. The spa I like fills up SO fast, but the robes are SO fluffy that I’m willing to wait lol! Glad it’s just the dentist… I’m always a little anxious about those appointments too!
Just the Dentist! I was worried as well but glad it is “only” that! I hate the dental cleaning process too so I know what you mean!
And I have recently fallen in love with the combo of egg and avocado. For some reason it works SO well together!!
Haha I feel you on the dentist! There was a point where for about 3 years, every time I went to the dentist I had to get something done. It was awful. Cavity free now for almost two years! knock on wood…
I feel your pain on the dentist. That is one appointment I dread and that always lead to $$$ coming out of my pocket! Hope it goes well!
Your lunch looks delicious! I am currently doing an assignment for one of my nutrition classes, where the total amount of money we can spend on food for a week is $3/day, and your lunch made me super hungry! But rice and beans it shall be for me…
Glad you enjoyed your massage!
I never buy plums but that one looks perfect and juicy
And now I must watch Rocky Horror Picture Show after your title.
I feel your angst on potential dental appts.
Good luck at the dentist! They are my most dreaded appointments too. You should have done the massage AFTER to decompress!
Exactly what I was thinking. You might need to schedule another massage, ASAP!
I’m surprised your hygenist would do a cleaning while you are pregnant? Mine never would because of the possibility of me swallowing bacteria stirred up by the cleaning. Who knows, maybe mine is just overly cautious. How nice of Matt to give you a massage. That is one of the best things a spouse can do for a pregnant mama!
Hmm. I’ve only heard that xrays are bad
Yeah, I never heard the cleaning being an issue. I think I had a dentist appointment when I was about 6 months along — our mouths are full of bacteria anyway . . . . I just passed on the x-rays, which I’m always looking for an excuse to skip, anyway.
Mine gave me a cleaning but when they discovered I had a cavity they gave me the option to have it filled sans numbing (eff that!) or to wait until after birth bc they won’t give pregnant women novicane.
I actually had a cavity drilled without numbing this year because I’m such a needlephobe and it was on the surface. It actually didn’t hurt, but boy was I scared!
Oh man, I’m like “Numb me twice!” bc I hate that drill!
I hate the dentist so much that I think I would let them put me to sleep to fill a cavity…not that they would ever give me that option.
Honestly I’m surprised how much I *don’t* hate going to my dentist. I’ve had dozens (I wish this were an exaggeration) of cavities, 13 teeth pulled, 5 of which were adult teeth and braces for 6 years (not dentist but close enuf)! I’m so used to people poking around in there it’s just a part of my life anymore…
I have not heard of that either… they warned me against swallowing mouthwash with alcohol in it and pushed back my x-rays, but they and my midwife both gave the okay for everything else.
I’ve never heard of that. My understanding is that there is growing evidence that gum disease in a pregnant woman is linked to preterm delivery, therefore, it is to the mom and baby’s benefit to continue with regular dental appointments during pregnancy.
so glad to hear you enjoyed your massage! what a great gift! i dread the dentist too… it can get so darn expensive!
I DREAD the dentist. I honestly think I’d rather get a pelvic exam than my teeth cleaned (and yes, I realize how ridiculous that sounds!)
I AGREE!
[Esp. now that pelvic exams are the norm
]
HAH! Touche!
I’m with both of you!!
I totally agree!
You just made me want a plum – haven’t had one in wayyy too long!
Aw! That was so sweet of Matt! It sounded very relaxing!
Best of luck to you with the dentist! I HATE going to the dentist with a passion. The one hygienist at my office is so rough with your mouth that it hurts for days. I try to request someone other than her.
I got a gold star from my dentist last week and was so happy. I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face for hours. I know how you feel. I’m so glad that’s over for another 6 mos.
Prenatal massages (and all massages) are heaven! I treated myself to a massage from months 4-9 in my pregnancy. So worth it!
Have fun at the dentist! I’m one of the strange people who falls asleep while getting their teeth cleaned. I find it relaxing. I know, weird!
Gosh I could use a massage right about now! I’m glad you got a chance to relax. Enjoy the rest of your day Kath!
I am not a fan of the needles and freezing…other than that I don’t mind going to the dentist. Only half my body takes to freezing so I usually need twice the dosage…learnt this while getting my wisdom teeth out!
I love massages…seriously, they are the best. The way to my heart, for sure. Glad you were able to enjoy one!
Ohhhh massages are awesome. Totally wish I would have got one earlier on in my pregnancy when I was more comfy. I’m luuuuuuuving plums too.
Just wondering about all the non-seasonal fruit? Not trying to pick here, but you used to be so seasonal/local minded about what you at and now I see plums, blueberries and grapes in winter. Are you just giving the baby what it wants? I am getting pretty bored of citrus too.
Yes, not ideal, but I’d rather eat healthy fruit that’s not in season than the junk food I’ve also been craving. Fruit tastes SO good to me now I just had to indulge. Citrus is getting old for sure..
Such a thoughtful gift! Something I am going to consider as my sister-in-love (boyfriends sister) is approaching her second trimester.
Holy yum! That sounds like the perfect lunch… This southern girl <3's grits
So thoughtful of Matt, that must have been so amazing. And good luck at the dentist! I don’t mind going too much but I just don’t care for how much they tear apart my gums!
i DREAD the dentist as well which, in turn, leads to me going way less frequently than i should. hope it goes well!!
I so need to get an avocado now, that just sounded so good!
I LOVE going to the dentist for a cleaning! Seriously. My teeth feel great afterwards.
I went to the dentist today too.
I have a 5 week old baby so last time I went (6 mon ago) I was pregnant and we just skipped the x-rays.
What I wouldn’t do for a professional massage… never had one!
ugh – I am NOT a fan of the dentist either!
Ok. I want your lunch. Thank you for the inspiration!
Kath, you just gave me the most monstrous plum craving… Oh man…
I had some eggs for lunch, really hit the spot. Oh and you thought that massage was good now? Get one at around 37 weeks, pure bliss for your back!!
What a wonderful man you’ve got–that’s such a nice treat! Also, that plum looks devine!
What a great man and such an awesome (needed) thing!! Very cool.
I had a sinking suspicion appointment #2 was the dentist! I think just because I know how much you hate it from reading your blog over the years
Hope you were able to walk away with just a cleaning!! And what a nice surprise for Matt to give you!! He’s so sweet!
Wow, you are doing better than I did when I was pregnant! Massages are great, it really helps calm things down. Glad to see protein sprinkled in your meals, you are doing a great job nourishing the little one.
I hope you enjoyed your massage! That was so sweet of him
That is such a nice gift
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE, LOVE, LOVE massages!!! I wish I could have one weekly, or at least every other week
A prenatal massage sounds like just what I need right now to work the knots out!

Good for you! It’s funny that Jess had a prenatal massage this past week too, only she was bummed cause she couldn’t lie on her tummy – the therapist wouldn’t let her. And it’s such a tiny baby bump. I think they should make tables with a hole there, like that head thingy!
I could – but only if it was comfortable (and it was OK)
They do make tables like that, my prenatal massage was on a table like that.
Good for you! Did you get to lay on your tummy or did they do side-lying? I’m also a massage therapist and I bought the Sophie Prone Pregnancy Pillow so I can give expecting mamas a chance to lay on their tummies while getting massaged
Haven’t had a chance to try it yet but I’m looking forward to using it!
I did on my stomach – probably for the last time in ages! It was up to my comfort and it felt fine
What a nice hubby you have! I would love a good massage right about now. Looks like it may take me getting pregnant too before that’ll actually happen. Oh well, at least I can enjoy something like that awesome egg wrap you made for lunch. It sounds so delicious. I love the idea of adding jalapenos and avocado. Nice little spicy kick!
I really need to start re-creating your meals! They are so simple, yet so hearty-looking!
Beyond cavities, going to the dentist can also be a sort of pregnancy related appointment, because pregnancy hormones can cause increased likelyhood of gingivitis, and gingivitis is linked to preterm labour! I had 31-week preemie, and afterwards, when reading and trying to figure out what might have caused her to come early, I was certainly glad I’d gone to the dentist during my pregnancy!
Yes, this is a great comment. Dental hygiene is SO important during pregnancy. Its scary that it can actually harm the baby if you slack on it. <3
Dentists terrify me too- only appointment I actually dread!
Haha, when I first read “3 slices of cheese” I had to do a double-take! I thought you meant 3 deli slices! I was like… woah! Glad your dentist appt. went well! I like getting my teeth all cleaned
That’s a tasty lunch! I love eggs in a tortilla!
I get a massage every other Tuesday- I see it as absolutely essential in muscle repair! And I pretty much always think of food and what I’m going to eat for the next meal while on the table (or when I’m working out, or doing yoga, or driving….
)
