I’ve had a really great day!!! We got SO MUCH accomplished – from a nursery facelift, to lots of cleaning, to a front porch curb appeal mini-makeover [with plants and junk removed], to Lowes for a super-fun purchase, to an awesome al fresco dinner! It was go, go, go, but in a really good way. I’m beat!!
Afternoon snacks:
After dropping off the groceries, I ran to Sara’s to say hello and pick up some mail. When I returned, I found this romantic table set for two!
Matt grilled BBQ chicken and zucchini and served ‘em with a hot buttered Virginia roll
Bone Suckin’ Sauce was the base for this BBQ flavor. Matt marinated the chicken (briefly) then grilled it and reduced the sauce into a thick syrup for optimal flavor.
Veggies at 2 meals today – and no evening nausea (and no meds!) I think today must be a turning point. [KNOCKONWOOD]
We listened to Norah Jones on Pandora by a lavender candle that Sara gave me! I may have worn two fleeces, but it was great to eat outdoors as the sun set!
While at Lowes today, I was suckered into supporting the Girl Scouts. I like to buy a box each year for each of us to make a scout happy for a sale. She likes mint, he likes PB. I’ll probably stick these in the freezer and eat them one-by-one for months! Not healthy, but nostalgic.
I have boatloads of reading to do in my freshly washed sheets tonight. And I can’t stop peeking into the nursery to check out our new art!!
Hope you all have great starts to your week tomorrow!

As a former Girl Scout for 13 years, thanks for your support!
The floor of your porch is juuuuuust gorgeous. The table too.
I love samoas, as far as girl scout cookies go! Something is so darn addictive about that caramel + coconut combo
OMG Girl Scout Cookies! I LOVE Thin Mints and Samoas! We saw them today selling their cookies in Bloomingdales and almost bought some boxes, but we rained ourselves in haha…the hubby and I could definitely polish of an entire box very quickly
Everyone has to have some girl scout cookies this time of year!! Well, unless you’re GF like me – when are they going to start making GF girl scout cookies? It’s only a matter of time!
What a nice dinner!! Looks like the perfect Sunday evening!
I can’t wait for the weather to allow more outside walks + meals eaten outside! I forgot how nice it is to be out there!
What a great day! It was pretty great here too. We enjoyed an incredible brunch with our boys, got a lot of work done and then did some relaxing and socializing with our boys. The day went fast, but it was really a great day. Enjoy your night Kath!
It’s so hard to say no to a sweet girl who is selling cookies. Plus they really are so good!
Sounds like a productive, fun and romantic day. Treasure those.
I think changing the clocks and the nice weather is giving everyone a much needed boost of energy. I cleaned and rearranged the whole kitchen and I even made a raw sweet potato pasta to celebrate spring!
I say health be damned when it comes to girl scout cookies…not because they are the best cookies ever…but because Girl Scouts is such a fantastic organization for girls and women.
ohh I can’t wait to see how your decorating the nursery! And what a great treat to finally eat outside, and in March(!!). I also spent close to 10 hours outside today and it was perfection.
I felt so awful when I had to tell the girl scouts I passed I couldn’t buy their cookies (can’t eat gluten). I remember how much we got into selling them when I was a girl scout!
Ohh food looks yum! We picked up a box of girl scout thin mints too! Ours won’t last months but one box won’t hurt us right :p
Those are my two favorite girl scout cookies EVER!!!!!!! SO delicious! I am totally obsessed with both and couldn’t pick a favorite between the two even if I tried! Enjoy!
And there is the difference between your self control and mine! No way those cookies would last MONTHS in my house. I’m not sure they would even last hours! And, the freezer is no deterrent. Frozen Thin Mints are amazing!! I’m a teacher, and every year I buy one box from every girl in my class. Luckily, there is an option where you can donate your box to a soldier. It has saved me many calories!!!
That’s so sweet of you to buy one from each Scout!
With Spring comes Girl Scout season!
Cute on so many levels!
Eating outside sounds so nice. Glad you’re enjoying your porch
The grilled zucchini looks perfect!
Your porch looks goregous! I’ve been able to say no to buying Girl Scout cookies 3x in a row now! I’m pretty proud ^_^
I always have to put Girl Scout Cookies in the freezer or they’ll be gone in one day. They still go fast from the freezer because they taste just as good cold!
Heh – I was at Lowe’s today too (in a state far from you) and the Scouts were hawking cookies. We declined, but shared a bit of nostalgia as my wife and I were both Scouts. Glad you had a nice day! Your porch is lovely.
Those are the same two boxes of Girl Scout cookies that I bought this year! Can’t wait til they arrive so I can dig in
Yum! My mom and I grilled some zucchini the other day along with mushrooms, peppers, onions, and tomatoes. Zucchini is definitely one of my favorite veggies to grill!
That zucchini looks delish! How was it cooked?
Three cheers for hubby! He done good.
I love when a man takes his time to make a romantic dinner. Way to go Matt. Enjoy your sunday evening.
Freshly washed sheets are one of my favorite simple pleasures! It’s the little things in life…
Those darn Girl Scouts! They got me last week and I was proud to make the box last a week- two Somoas a night for a treat. And now they’re gone
haha I’m so mad right now. I was at Lowes today too (to get paint for the baby’s room!) And I ALMOST bought girlscout cookies and decided not to… But now I’m deeply regretting that decision. =)
You gotta support the girl scouts! Though, I’ll be honest I haven’t bought a box this year….BUT someone brought some to work and I’ve helped EAT them!
I always forget to grill zucchini. I’m adding it to my grocery list! Well done, Matt. And I must say…you smell fabulous.
Now that’s the way to end the day!!! Dinner looks amazing!
I love eating outside! (except hen the wind blows half of my food off the plate)
I will deny those girl Scouts every time. The cookies aren’t even good anymore.
BBQ has been one of my cravings. It looks delicious!! I’m gonna have to find that in one of my meals this week!
I am always suckered in to buy girl scout cookies. They are SO good. The veggies look great and a fine way to balance dessert. Okay… off to go find pics of the upcoming nursery.
Grilled zucchini! Makes me think of summertime!
I’ve been seeing girlscouts camped out at literally EVERY store I’ve been to for the last few weeks – very tempting, I hope you enjoy every single bite of those thin mints! =)
I love days like that, even if they are few and far between. I also love Girl Scout cookies and WISH I would run into some cookie pushers. hehe
good idea to put the cookies in the freezer and make them last longer…I think I will do the same.
I have a box in my office that I haven’t opened for the fear that once I open it, I might eat it all. The mint cookies are my favorite too.
Thin Mints and PB Patties (and don’t forget Samoas) are the best things ever! Glad you’ll have a freezer stash
That dinner looks amazing!! So sweet of Matt – he knows how to take care of you!
I am jealous of those girl scout cookies. I’ve been on the hunt; but being on a college campus creates lack of access of those cookies. I feel like once a year is fine…and if you pace yourself it’s more enjoyed!
You can find cookie sales locations at http://www.girlscoutcookies.org/ . Remember that sale dates are different in various states.
Ohmy that zucchini looks way too good! Why does mine never look like this!
Have a good night x
BBQ chicken was on our menu too last night!
That’s great you are feeling better!
How far along are you now?
Mint cookies are my favorite too..
15.5 weeks!
how exciting!!
What a wonderful evening! The simplicity a nice meal, on a beautiful evening with someone we love; priceless. Enjoy this time together with just the 2 of you. I was a Girl Scout, my daughter was a Girl Scout and you can bet I’ll support them by buying cookies each year. Yum!
ahh i’m jealous of your nursery! can you come and decorate ours please!? it was on my to do list but never really happened. all the FUNCTION is there but none of the cute touches i wanted! oh well. she’ll be in our room for the first month anyway . . .
Once there is a baby in there, she’ll be all the decor you need : )
i agree, i love the wood floor on your porch! with the lighting it looked extra-beautiful!
I’m a little obsessed with bbq chicken right now. I think I’m craving summer. I love the flavor of bone suckin’ sauce but it’s so thin that I don’t buy it. I never thought of reducing it on the stove. I like sticky sweet bbq sauce. PS: You have to eat at least one whole box of girl scout cookies a year… It’s a rule ya know
Sounds like you had such a productive day!
Your nursery is looking great btw!
That table set up looks great! So romantic!
I love girl scout cookies. I haven’t had any this year yet! I can’t believe it.
I love thin mints. I bought way too many grils scout cookies this year – but they are so good!
Yay for the nursey!
Oh! Frozen thin mints! Thanks for the reminder!!
My husband bought a few boxed of GS cookies- and his fave are peanut butter (Which he ate in 2 days) and mine are thin mint. I’ve made him keep them in his office away from me- but I’m going to snag a few and freeze them!
That dinner looks so good and romantical. (Is that a word yet because I’m still trying to make it one). Well I haven’t had a GS cookie since Fat Tuesday. But that dinner looks soooo good. I hope we can get a recipe or two.
Love that little set-up you have on your porch! So cute!
Last evening, my husband and daughter and I went for a gorgeous walk around the neighborhood, because it was so nice outside. Our 3 year-old daughter rode her bike while we walked.
It was nice to be able to open our sliding glass doors in our house to let the fresh air in!
I.Love.Love.Love.Thin.Mints
I especially love them frozen!

I Love Norah Jones! So relaxing to listen to!
Kath, crumble two of those thin mint cookies in a container of vanilla yogurt. Taste. Like. Heaven. Or AKA mint chocolate chip ice cream! Love your blog!
Great idea!! I’m already itching for a snack..
fantastic idea! I must try this!
I am all for everything in moderation.. but I have to say I’m a little disappointed in the Girl Scout cookies. I want to fully support such a great organization, but it is time they change their product. Not only do the cookies contain palm oil (completely unnecessary and #1 contributor to deforestation in Southeast Asia) but even more, have you looked at the ingredient list? I can’t think of something much farther from real food.
I don’t mean to be a downer, I just think that if leaders with the influence like you have took a stand, it could actually make a difference. Awareness is everything, and this blog is about real food.. so what better way to send a message to others and to the manufacturers of these cookies than to support girl scouts in other ways but refuse to support this product?
I’d love to hear others’ thoughts.
Melissa,
you bring up a good point. I think it’s important for people to support GIrl Scouts in ways that are meaningful to them, as opposed to not supporting them at all. And the ingredients are terrible, but as we know, most of America isn’t educated about the food products we so readily consume. Kath does have the perfect opportunity on her blog, to not only educate what makes GS cookies “bad” but also show that there are other ways to support this fantastic organization.

Just thought you should know what your cookie purchased supported, so much more than cookies.
And, I swear I am done with the Girl Scout thing now.
I absolutely love girl scouts cookies…and supporting a great cause too
Those are the two flavors I buy every year, and the thin mints def go in the freezer for one-by-one snacking. I managed to avoid the siren call of the GS cookies this year, though – was holding out for my little cousin to offer again, and she didn’t. My trying-not-to-expand waistline is not too sad about it, but my mouth misses the craveable taste a bit!
