Life changing!!!
Say goodbye to our darling Craftsman house, which we rented for a year. It helped us fall in love with Cville and had the best front porch a girl could ask for -
I cleaned for hours as FAST AS I COULD! My goal was to not have to return after the moving truck left. I made it just in time!! Every room was wiped, swept, vacuumed and steam-mopped.
Hello new empty, freshly painted by fantastic Justin the painter new house!!
Doors will be painted white tomorrow!
Justin’s family owns the Jimmy Johns here in Cville and he brought us lunch!!
I had a veggie + cheese sub – lots of veggies and cheese!
Salt and vinegar on the side
Gobble gobble I was starved!!!
Highlight of my day: COMCAST CAME!! Within their time period. And we have internet!!
Lowlight of my day: washing 1,000 dishes.
Karen has convinced me that if a dish goes in a box, a roach poops on it. She washed every single dish of hers when she moved and I decided it would sure feel clean to do the same. Don’t think I’m gross for not doing that in the past! Wrapping paper is clean, right!?
I own too many bowls!
But I have never owned a pot rack!!
Our empty house was soon a mess. A HUGE mess.
–> finished basement!!
–> Future brewery!!
New blogging HQ
I spent many nights worrying that the dining room table wouldn’t fit. Turns out it fits like a glove!
LAUNDRY ROOM!!
Other than the kitchen, Seamane came over to help with the move and we put together the master BR – so I can rest later tonight. It’s on its way to being so cozy!
Spare bedroom
Future guest room – to be painted!
Would it surprise you to hear that I had the kitchen put together enough to make dinner? I made the dinner I was supposed to make last night!
A little move-in celebration via Jefferson Vineyards
Our new dining quarters
On the menu: Spinach Noodles [from Whole Foods] coated in Krissy’s Clementine Cashew Butter (OMG!) along with snap peas, tempeh, shitake mushrooms and orange.
Matt said the clem-cashew butter on the noodles was the best nutty noodle sauce he’s ever had.
It was really really good. Slightly sweet, slightly orange and very creamy!
I was less tired and sore when I ran my half marathon last year. This move has totally wiped my out. My feet can barely stand and I’m so thirsty! Perhaps I should have been drinking Gatorade during my marathon of a day : )
Can’t wait to do it all again tomorrow!!

You’re new house is going to look fabulous!!
Congrats On the move!!
holy SMOKES! that IS life changing! Looks good! I can’t believe how fast you all did it–wayyyyy to go! And of course you had the kitchen done. Typical
I love that robin’s egg blue in one of the rooms! I would love to paint my bedroom that color.
Looks fab!! Everything seems to be fitting beautifully. That kitchen!! Your dining quarters are outside right?
That photo would be outside
It looks adorable! You guys have gotten so much done in such a quick time! PS Love Jimmy John’s!
Looks great! Congrats on your big move. It feels great to be out of one place and into the next, doesn’t it?!? So excited for you guys! I love the colors you picked in your new house-they’re so happy and cheerful! Gorgeous
I’m impressed you had the kitchen ready-it took us like 2 weeks to be able to use it. Though they were finishing the house around us so I guess that’s an excuse! They still are finishing the basement….I’m ready to wake up and have it be just us!
The house looks really nice! I like how bright and cheery it is!
Oh my goodness, you are amazing! I have NEVER been organised enough to actually eat dinner at home in a new house. The place looks beautiful and I adore your paint choices. Lovely!
it looks so good already – i can see all the potential! and that dinner looks delicious! so creative.
Congrats on the new house! It is beautiful already!
I can’t believe you got all that done in one day and were able to cook in there right away. I guess the movers help though in placing all the furniture. Holy cripes – you washed all the dishes?! Better you than me
The different room colors look incredible and the house is looking so good.
I’m not sure how you got the kitchen in place so quick. I’ve moved a ton and it’s always a day or two before I can get squared away enough to get anything done. I think I’m just lazy!
Dang! What a day! You definetly must be tired! It looks great so far
How exciting! I LOVE your new home… and great choices on the paint colors! I can’t wait to see it all finished. I’m sure you’ll sleep great tonight!
YAY!!! … It is finally official
The most important room is ready, at least, to rest peacefully!

You’re HOME!!! So exciting!!
This house looks fabulous, I love all the colour choices, everything just suits nicely! Gives me some inspiration to update my wall colours in my house! Happy Moving!
It is falling together so nicely! ….I am currently swooning over your beautiful hardwood floors!! WOW!!!
Welcome Home, Kath & Matt!!!
Love it so far, great work with the painting and unpacking. I love the green rooms!! Great idea setting up the bedroom first…a cozy place to rest your head after a long day is so important. Awesome looking dinner especially considering the crazy day you had…ibuprofen is in order, I think
I can’t believe everything you got done in one day. Go to bed!
Congrats on the new house! What an exciting (and I am sure exhausting) day!
Where did you get all of the glass jars lined up along your counter in the picture of the kitchen? They are so cute and exatly what I need to organize my grains, oats, etc.
A hardware store here in town
It looks so nice and I can’t believe how much you have accomplished already. You two will probably sleep like babies tonight.
I love all of your paint color choices and decor.
I LOOOOOOVE it! The wood floors are beautiful! I SO wish I could talk my husband into letting me paint our living room (or hiring someone to do it!) the color is gross, I don’t know what we were thinking! Good luck unpacking – such a cute house!
That’s a beautiful house! I also rewash dishes after I unpack. Who knows how dirty the boxes/ paper are?
Long time reader, first time commenter….I have that colander!
Congrats on the new house, can’t wait to go back to my alma mater and visit your GH!
WOWWW lady you are awesome!! I can’t believe you did all that today and even were able to cook dinner in your kitchen. You earned yourself a vacation!!– or at least a mani-pedi/massage
A foot massage would be amazing right now…
Everything looks wonderful and spic and span for just moving in! Good luck you guys and don’t work too hard
Congrats, happy house owners!
You made dinner like that on the day you moved in?! That’s crazy and awesome, haha.
Love the finished basement! Can’t wait to have one in our house. Congrats on the purchase and smooth move. You guys are rock stars!
Everything looks gorgeous and wonderful so far! I just love the paint colors.
PS. You can never have too many bowls!!
I wash dishes everytime I move. I don’t know why I keep doing it. I hate it
ha ha – i feel like i’ve watched you move so many times! congrats.
Your new house looks awesome! Love all the different colors of paint. And the finished basement. Congrats and good luck with getting the rest together.
Moving is SUCH an intense workout, so take all the rest you need
You are amazing!!
You blogged. AND with a million pics in the post!!
You washed all those dishes??! Wow, I go with the tissue paper is clean vibe and throw em into the cupboard!
“Highlight of my day: COMCAST CAME!! Within their time period. And we have internet!!” <– That rocks. The day after we moved in and ours was hooked up, it was the best thing! But it wasnt Comcast and said company did NOT come within the window. At all. As in, I waited around ALL day for them. Grr!
Your new place looks amazing!
Guest/Spare bedroom?…I think you mean the baby’s room;)
Well we don’t want to count our chickens before they hatch!
I predict baby in near future. lol New home is amazing!! Your’e like the energizer bunny.
omg you did SO much! And that outdoor seating looks sooo fabulous. Dining al fresco shall continue!
Your hosue looks beautiful! Congrats to the new owners!
Congrats to you both, the house is beautiful! It’s fun to finally see the entire front of the rental house, I always had a picture in my head when you’d show the porch but it looked different than I imagined!
The comment about the roaches + Karen had my cracking up. I don’t think you’re gross at all to not have done that in the past. If I was moving across town there’s no way I would’ve washed all my dishes!
But how am I going to get updates on Tigre?!
You will have to come visit!
Your new house is so charming!!!! I love the color robins egg blue and when I get a place of my own one day at least one of the rooms will be painted that color! Plus I think a finished basement is so wonderful and useful, like a whole new floor! congrats kath
Your house looks great. Are you painting the laundry room to brighten up a dull task? Where is your office at? Is it a hallway alcove? In the kitchen? So many questions.
Patience my dear! I’ll be posting lots of shots soon!
Your new home is gorgeous! Your going to be so happy there! Congrates!!
Love the hardwood floors!
Where did you get the laundry hampers? It looks like they are canvas on hooks. I have velcro that just doesn’t seem to want to stay stuck.
I would love another option.
Thanks for bringing us along for the ride!
They came with the house and they are actually quite flimsy (and dirty!!) so I don’t know if I’m keeping them. Maybe I could give them to you!
Congrats on the new house!! Looks awesome!
wowza – you guys are moving MACHINES!!!! Great job
Ok, Kath…now you going to tell me what street?
Emailed!
Everything looks great!!! I can’t wait to see what the house looks like all done up. I love looking at other people’s interiors to get ideas for my own…when we eventually buy/build a house.
It’s all happened so quickly!! (From this end, at least
) So exciting
Love the wall colors!
Love the looks of your new place, congrats on the move!!
i love all the hard wood flooring.
)
I am in awe of all you did in one day… that much moving took me weeks… ok months! You inspired me to get off my butt and hang my pot rack I have sitting in the garage!
CONGRATULATIONS!! Your house is beautiful! I love all the wall colours you guys chos. I cant wait to buy my first house next year, this gets me soo excited!!
Looks absolutely amazing! The colors are great! Your kitchen all put together & clean must feel so amazing! Not to mention a bed to collapse into tonight! (I always set up my bedroom first when I moved…) Jealous of the finished basement (Cali doesn’t have basements), and the hubby would love somewhere besides the garage to brew (me too!).
love love love the new place! Again, congratulations!
Your new home is beautiful!
OMG I had no idea you were moving! I must have missed a BIG memo! I haven’t stopped by in a while…
I love the wall color in the bedrooms. Overall, looks very nice and cozy! Can’t wait to see the finished rooms…
Wow- I LOVE the dining room colors. What are they?!
They came with the house! I loved the grey too – we kept the dining room one and painted over the one in the living room
Moving is HARD! So glad you’re starting to get unpacked! The new house is gorgeous and I love that pot rack! I have always wanted one. I’m kind of a closet HGTV addict. ;p
LOVE the house(s)! Your old house is so adorable and I love the looks of the new place too! Can’t wait to see how you put it all together. Congrats on the successful move and WELCOME HOME!
I can’t believe how quickly you put together the new house! It’s super cute – especially love the kitchen, the floors and the new paint colors
HI!
I have the same DAHON bike! I’ve never seen it on the blog.
I started reading this blog about 2 years ago (I was on a plane from NY to LA and saw it on Current TV) now I’m hooked on oatmeal! Keep it up!
Wow I love the new place- u guys did a great job!
Congratulations on the new house! It looks great, I love the colours! Hope you settle in quickly and wish you many many happy years in your new abode
I love it! Such a cute place
I especially love the built-in desk for blogging!
I love the colours you’ve chosen! Congrats again on the move
LOVE the paint colors!! The house is looking great!! And having internet is key ~ we didn’t have it connected for a few days. Hard being disconnected AND having all your belongings be a mess.
looks like you are making great progress towards the new place feeling like home
Mind if I ask how much your rent was for that house? I only ask because renting an entire house in several parts of California is SO EXPENSIVE… but still cheaper than paying a mortgage
I don’t really feel comfortable sharing the exact amount, but it was..between $1300 and $1700
Sheesh…that’s quite reasonable for that cute house, and would be much more expensive here!
That is super cheap for a 2-bedroom house with a backyard too. I assume it was 2-bdrm that is.
Wowza! That’s cheaper than what I paid in rent for my 400 sq. ft. STUDIO! Bravo for landing such a cute house
Didn’t feel cheap to us!!
Love love love the house! Let me know when the first beer is done.
First one he’s going to brew is a pumpkin!
Sure, it’s good to wash the wrapped dishes, but the likelihood of roaches is minimal, I’d say. New house looks really nice. Bet you’ll miss the garden greens and strawberries from the old house, though!
Kath, it looks awesome!! Congratulations again. I hope you get settled in quickly.
Congrats on the new house! It looks great, cannot wait to see more pictures! And your dinner looks amazing!
Oh, Kath—it all looks BEAUTIFUL. The paint colors are perfect, and I love how your black and white sofa looks against that blue! Moving into a new place is always so exciting (exhausting, yes, but exciting, too!)—may you guys have many happy years in this new home : )
“Karen has convinced me that if a dish goes in a box, a roach poops on it” – I simultaneously laughed out loud at the thought of this and cringed. Ickkkk. The house looks beaaaautiful.
Aw- what a great house!! Enjoy your first breakfast in your new home- that’s a momentous occasion!!
And now the fun of unpacking begins. Well.. the unpacking part won’t be too fun, but you are going to have a blast putting a Kath and Matt touch on everything in your new home!
And…… Rest!!
The new house looks fabulous!
The house already looks gorgeous, Kath – and I’m sure you’ll have it looking more cozy like “yours” in no time.
When we moved 6 weeks ago, we went for dinner after finishing at 10 pm to our fave pub, and could barely get back up from the bar stools afterwards, we were so tired and sore!
Congratulations on your new home!
The new house is so cute! Congrats! I’m always drawn to ‘new construction’, but ben loves houses like yours. They do have a nice ‘charm’ to them! And I love the new built in blogging area, how perfect!
I love jimmy john’s bread! And their free smells!
Congrats on the move and the new place! I love the colors that you have your walls! Beautiful!
Oh and paint the guest room pink, ya know, I might come visit sometime ! ha!
woohoo for a smooth move! i bought bottles of gatorade for our friends that helped us with our move in july and it was a lifesaver. granted that day was wicked hot (over 100º + humidity), but still. so much activity lifting and bending and going up and down stairs etc etc. it really is a workout.
love the paint!
Your new place is beautiful! I can’t wait to see it when it’s all set up.
Also your dinner looks fantastic. I like the idea of pairing orange with nutty noodles!
Ahh…just as I always do, despite my mantra to slow down – there you go, frantically working to get everything organized and settled on the day of the move! Terrific progress, esp. on the all important (spacious-looking!) kitchen! And, the robins egg blue paint is looking so fresh and lovely – I’m looking for a Justin the painter in my neck of the woods.
Wishing you many years of happiness in your new house, K + M!!!
Are you a wizard? Hogwarts grad? S’riously, that gorgeous (and delicious) dinner after a day of moving?
I would really like to try that cashew/clementine nut butter sauce. I wonder if it might make a good Thai Coleslaw?
Congrats on the move & new house! I’m house hunting myself, though I don’t really want to buy until Spring, its still really fun!
Congrats, and the new place looks lovely! I think I washed the dishes after only the first of many, many Navy moves. Do it enough and standards have to relax a little or you drive yourself crazy. Wishing you and Matt much happiness in your new home.
Congrats on the move! Love your color choices. Could you give us some info on the laundry baskets/hampers? Also, received the granola from Open Sky yesterday….it is DEEEE-licious!!
Awesome!!
Congratulations! It looks like it’s already coming together. I feel like we’re now seeing the *ding, dong* part of House Hunters!
Also, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the new blogging HQ. Desks in little nooks are my favorite way to make efficient use of space!
I love your new home! It’s beautiful! It looks like everything is coming together nicely! I can’t wait to see what it looks like completely decorated
Kathhhh! I have been following your bloggie for almost 2 years now and I am SO EXCITED for you guys! Good luck with the new house
So fun to see pictures of both houses – new and old. I LOVE your style and color choices, Kath! Congrats on the move!
Your floors are crazy clean!
Wow, the rooms look so much bigger with furniture in them!
The house is absolutely GORGEOUS!! I seriously love it! I think you guys are just going to be SO happy there
Congrats!
Very happy for you guys, this is awesome.
Still miss El Tigre.
what an exciting time for you, kath!! everything looks absolutely gorgeous and you will be settled in in no time. can’t believe you washed all those dishes!!
omg I love these photos! Please please please share photos of everything all decorated! Your last home was so adorable!
I’m with Karen… I always wash my dishes after a move. Even a just across town one! But… I use the dishwasher.
The house and paint color look gorgeous!
We are going to move next month, and I already know I will be nowhere near as organized and settled as you! (and I’m pretty organized!). You’re awesome!
~
WHere did you get your cool hampers in your laundry room? That’s what I need!
They came with the house..
Thank you! I got the link to BB&B!
I got this one from BB&B and it’s great because it has a place to hang clothes to dry and a shelf on top!
http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=12019831&RN=1014&
Oh you sent it…Jamie…ha ha..Thank you:)
I LOVE the blue in the bathroom! Love, Love, Love! The floors are amazing too!!
The house is already looking great! Congrats on the move!
I’m loving your house already! It looks like you’re doing a great job making it into a home:-).
new reader here!
just had to comment on your bed frame (LOVE!!!) and those shelves on the side of your stove to store your pasta/grains (ANOTHER LOVE!!).
Welcome and thanks!
I love your side shelves and storage jars!
LOVE the new house, especially the sink and laundry room! Can’t wait to see more pictures!
Congratulations on the new dig. Can’t wait to see more photos of your organized home. I organized my spices yesterday!
there’s something about those Jimmy John’s veggie subs. I see them and I want one! I get it without mayo and with extra spicy peppers! The new house looks great- love the floors! You guys were super speedy movers!
The house looks beautiful Kath! I was so excited to hear about it at HLS and even more excited to see the progress you have made already!
I’ve moved four times since college, and I confess that I’ve never — not even ONCE — rewashed all my dishes after packing them! But now that there’s phantom roach poop to deal with, I might have to after my next move…
Would you tell me what kind of kitchen counter tops were in your rented house and in your new house? Were they the same? I like that woody look with the white contrast. I’ve looked into getting reclaimed wood for part of our counters, but I’m afraid of it scratching too easily.
They were both IKEA butcher block but we didn’t install either of them
What was your experience with them? Do they seem to hold up well against scratches or water?
Congrats on the move! You’re doing a fabulous job and I love love the house already…especially the colors in all the rooms! Gorgeous food and gorgeous house pics, can’t get any better than that
Congrats Kath! Good luck on settling in smoothly… the house already looks fantastic!
LOVE your new house!
Congratulations to you and Matt!
Wishing you many many years of happiness in your gorgeous new home!
That house is absolutely gorgeous! Love the paint colors!
The house looks amazing. Owning a home is the best feeling ever!
It was the best cashew butter on noodles because it was in your wonderful new home. Just think one day youll be bringing babies into this sweet home of yours:)
Where did you get the divided canvas laundry hamper?? I need it!
Gorgeous! I love your computer nook. So cute! Hope you’ll find time to rest soon!
Hope you realize how old this post is
Hi Kath! I tried reading back but couldn’t seem to find this info- so you guys owned your first place, then rented in Cville, and now are you renting or did you guys decide to buy this newest place? It’s gorg, love all the colors and special touches!
Hey Katie,
We owned our house in Charlotte, then rented the Craftsman in Charlottesville for a year and then just bought a house this September.
You can see the three houses on this page: http://www.katheats.com/kerf-favorites/home-neat-home
