Reunions are fun and weird!!

Most people have probably seen their good friends in the past 5 years at weddings and trips and such. But it’s all the people you were sorta friends with that it’s so fun to see. This really is just like being back in college!

Our drive down today was SO LONG. But thankfully Matt drove the whole way (not sure why he let me get away with that!) I’m liking Girl with the Dragon Tattoo a lot now :) It’s like the game CLUE!

Two days till I’m back home!

We made it with just enough time to check into our hotel and grab a snack. A Hungry Bar I had frozen and thawed. These are SO GOOD!

I hate ironing and rarely do it. I just don’t think it’s very necessary. But one of my shirts was terribly wrinkled so I got Matt to do it (he doesn’t mind ironing!)

He went from husband

To frat boy in 60 seconds!!

[Don’t worry, the light goes easily back onto the wall!]

Our first even was a welcome reception at Ye Ole 900 Room

Actual quote from the night: “I remember you were the first person to ‘Poke’ me on Facebook” –Snake to Alaa’

My senior year roomie! [Meredith where are you?]

Do you see the college student playing foosball barefoot in the next room!?!

The food was pretty tasty, but lacking in veggies.

Some fruit, puff pastried and fried finger foods, pita chips and dips

Note that the allergy card had ONION on it!!!

I had a small mixed plate, followed by a second plate of hummus + pita and another of fruit. It wasn’t much for dinner, but I don’t have a huge appetite. I think the combination of super indulgent 8 days and the time change has thrown it off. Two lame dinners in a row! Hoping for a good one tomorrow :)

We all headed the the famous Brickhouse Tavern – the local watering hole – for socializing.

I am also pretty alcoholed out – I had no desire to drink anything tonight. Just some H20 and a few sips of Matt’s beers to try. I actually did taste some wine and it was AWFUL! I am not a wine snob, but after a week in wine country I could tell such a difference in quality. Hope I am not turning into one!

Canada is here!

Hopefully they won’t end up like this like their younger selves did:

I left the partiers (who were headed back to campus to crash frat parties) to come home for this:

The Homewood Suites here in Davidson is AWESOME!!! Probably the best chain hotel I’ve encountered. Each room is almost like a mini apartment. We stayed here this spring for a wedding and I was so excited to come back.

The tiny but extremely function kitchen:

Hey check it out – our fridge here is the same as home! A few items and booze!

When we got into town I picked up a few yogurts, fruits and a milk for breakfast + coffee in the room

I also brought a ton of other breakfast supplies in our Envitote – can’t wait to dig in tomorrow AM!

Now I’ve got a Davidson bear to snuggle with!

Wow. I can’t even tell you the last time I thought about the 900 Room. Talk about bringing me back… Good to know that some things never change :)

Looks like your weekend is off to a great start! You’ll be home super soon so just live it up, k?

I can’t imagine my life 5 years from now. I really hope I have a job by then :)

3 Claire (Low Impact Fashionista) November 13, 2010 at 1:20 am

I can’t imagine my life 5 years from now either but I hope it is filled with lots of good food and health :)

4 Michelle (The Runner's Plate) November 13, 2010 at 1:26 am

I don’t really care for ironing, but I know my husband dislikes it even more–you’re lucky that Matt likes it!!

I wish I could have gone back for my college 5 year reunion!!

5 the salty girl November 13, 2010 at 2:49 am

Nice hotel! It’s awesome that it has a mini kitchen that is actually functional.

6 Lauren at KeepItSweet November 13, 2010 at 6:32 am

i hope i go to my college reunion next year! i definitely know what you mean about the wine- after drinking really good wine you have to east back in to drinking the not so good stuff

7 sarah (the SHU box) November 13, 2010 at 6:55 am

ahhh so fun!

i have to express my love for homewood suites as well. we stayed at one about a month ago in wilmington (last minute beach trip!) and i was so impressed with it! furthermore, we ended up having to go a day late due to something that came up at work for josh, and they completely refunded the money for the day we no-showed. i heart them.

oh looks like a fun time!

Enjoy the reunion. I’m surprised there was no veggie tray. I thought that was mandatory with the fruit tray.

I would be so homesick, too, by that point! It will be all the sweeter when you do get home, though! :) Glad you’re liking Girl with a Dragon Tattoo as well – it is like Clue, just a lot more sexualized 😛 LOL

11 Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) November 13, 2010 at 7:58 am

Your home is going to feel so wonderful after all these trips. But just try and enjoy it as much as possible! 😀

Love that the allergy card reads “onion.”

12 Erika @ Food, Fitness, & Fun November 13, 2010 at 8:19 am

Reunions sound like so much fun! I can’t wait until I get older so I can go to them! 😉

13 chelsey @ clean eating chelsey November 13, 2010 at 8:40 am

I definitely would have chosen the “go back and sleep”route as well – let those boys be boys! :) I love how that hotel room has a kitchen. Awesome!

14 Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin November 13, 2010 at 8:42 am

This makes me wonder what I’ll be doing 5 years from now and what my college reunions will be like! It must be fun to see everyone again!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend! You’ll be home soon. 😉

15 Michele @ Healthy Cultivations November 13, 2010 at 8:43 am

Love your analogy of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo to Clue. So true.

Enjoy the weekend.

16 Marci November 13, 2010 at 8:54 am

I like your Envitote! That company is based in Houston and I tried one out and did a review and giveaway.
It really holds a lot of stuff!

17 Food & Other Things November 13, 2010 at 8:59 am

This makes me so excited for my future high school and college reunions! Have a great weekend!

18 Maryea @ Happy Healthy Mama November 13, 2010 at 9:01 am

I just went to my college reunion, too. Fun!

19 [email protected] November 13, 2010 at 9:12 am

Mmmm, can’t wait to see what your traveling breakfast consists of!! 😀

20 Meredith November 13, 2010 at 9:16 am

This makes me so sad! take lots of pics so i feel like i’m there. I have to work this weekend, am on call, and working at the carolina cup races. It was a terrible weekend for me to try and get out of all 3 of those things to make it to the reunion :( is turd there??

21 Grocery Goddess Jen November 13, 2010 at 9:17 am

Love the shot of Matt as a frat boy :)

22 Haleigh November 13, 2010 at 9:19 am

College reunion!! How fun :) The girl with the dragon tattoo is a good read, but it is a little slow in the beginning of the novel, but once I got through that part… I couldn’t put it down.

23 Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) November 13, 2010 at 9:27 am

Looks like A LOT of fun to be had this weekend! I love the card for the food had onions on it…it’s like they wrote it just for you! Have a great weekend Kath!

24 JenATX November 13, 2010 at 9:47 am

my friend is traveling as well & tweeted the other day that all she wanted was a Green Monster. I bet if she packed a little magic bullet & supplies, like you so wisely did, she could’ve fixed herself one!

25 alana (at) the food November 13, 2010 at 9:50 am

what a fun weekend!
american college always amazes me….its so different from it’s canadian counterpart!

26 Val @ Balancing Val November 13, 2010 at 10:10 am

My favorite part about a hotel is the bed. So if the bed sucks I get pissed.

Glad it worked out for you, it does look like a mini apartment! :)

27 Kris November 13, 2010 at 10:27 am

Good to know the Homewood Suites is nice. We pass it on our way back out to 77; usually stay in Mooresville or Huntersville when visiting MIL.

28 Lindsey November 13, 2010 at 10:30 am

I had my college reunion this past summer, and lets just say I should have called it an early night like you did….I can’t recover like I did when I was 21! And a side note, Girl w/the Dragon Tattoo is amazing. The first 50 pgs are ok, but then it’s addicting.

29 Camille November 13, 2010 at 10:42 am

Haha, I love that they are off to crash frat parties :)
You know, they are making an American version of the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo movie! You should definitely watch the original, Swedish version!

30 Lauren November 13, 2010 at 10:58 am

It’s so strange for me to see smaller colleges where people actually know each other. I can’t even imagine a reunion like this at LSU. I probably know about 0.5% of my class!

31 lynn (The Actors Diet) November 13, 2010 at 11:11 am

aren’t reunions FUN?!? i went to my college one a few years ago (obama spoke!) but since i still see most of my friends from wesleyan it wasn’t as weird/awesome as my 15 year high school one.

32 The Wife of a Dairyman November 13, 2010 at 11:14 am

Hope your meals get a little more exciting for you over the course of the weekend:) Have a great time !

33 Andrea @ Run, Eat, Date, Sleep November 13, 2010 at 11:30 am

Awwww I love your bear :)

34 Mary @ Bites and Bliss November 13, 2010 at 12:13 pm

wow, you’ve been busy!! Looks like a ton of fun. And how nice of Matt to drive and do some ironing :)

35 Tyla November 13, 2010 at 5:53 pm

We stayed at the Homewood Suites in St. Cloud MN and it was excellent too! It’s good to know this is consistent in other locations!

36 Sana November 14, 2010 at 1:19 am

What do your college friends think of your blogg?

37 Kath November 14, 2010 at 8:58 am

Everyone thought it was cool?
