We did it!!!

Matt tried to talk us out of it, but we went running in the dark, cold….rain?! I’m not sure if it was raining, but I was all wet when we returned, so I guess it was!! We did 5.3 miles at a pretty good pace (~8:45-55)

Home, shower….I’m in a bit of a rush today because Victoria and I are meeting at 8:30 for coffee and studying before our 11:30 Metabolism exam.

What a perfect day for a RUSH BOWL!

After seeing my SIABs (smoothie in a bowl) topped with granola, I got an email from Nicole at Rush Bowls asking if I wanted to try out their own versions of SIABs. What’s cool is these are pre-made and frozen so there is no blender to dirty, and it comes WITH granola!! I think it was made just for me!

The company is based in Boulder, CO and has a whole store with tons of different freshly made smoothie bowl flavors. Ashley got to go to a complete tasting because she lives nearby! It looked amazing!! But there are 4 Rush bowls that are packaged for retail. Currently they are only available at Whole Foods (which we do not have here in Charlotte :( ) but I am working to TRY to get these into my Open Sky store. CROSS YOUR FINGERS (and if you’re interested, please say so so they can gauge the interest).

I chose the Power Bowl to start with because I need the brain food for my exam and some staying power with a little extra protein. This bowl is made with organic vanilla soy milk, bananas, raspberries, blueberries, whey protein, OATS and fat-free frozen yogurt. I wish it was without the frozen yogurt because that makes the ingredient list less appealing, but the fruit + milk are the bulk of it at least. The nutritionals for this bowl are : 330 calories (the highest of them), 18g protein, 9g fiber, 20% calcium and 35% vitamin C. Sounds perfect to me!

30 seconds in the microwave:

25 more:

The instructions are printed on the bowl lid of how to thaw. You can either microwave or let it sit out for a while.

Finished off with a blob of peanut butter!

IMG_1096 (640x427)

Totally LOVED the bowl!!! Basically it was just like my SIAB so therefore it was perfect :)
IMG_1099 (640x427)

Served with hot tea for warmth. Coffee is coming!

Cannot wait to try the other 3 flavors!

Oh, that looks delicious! I’ll have to check Whole Foods the next time I’m there. Although, I have to say, right now all I want is something super warm since it’s *freezing* over here. But a cup of tea looks like it would do just the trick with the frozen treat. 😀

Good luck on the metabolism exam!!

I have yet to make SIAB. I really need to try. But I think I should invest in some granola to top it off first.

Next time I’m at Whole Foods I will keep an eye out for those Rush bowls!

RUSH bowls? What a great idea!!

The main reason I don’t make smoothies more often is that I’m lazy about cleaning the blender. This would be perfect for me!

love that idea! how portable and cute too! great job on getting a wet run in!

29 Liz December 14, 2009 at 10:45 am

Looks awsome, but are they like $30 a bowl? If you’re into the who smoothie in a bowl thing it’d be perfect. You could throw it in your bag before work or school and it’d be ready to eat by the time you got there. It’s a good idea!

30 Susan December 14, 2009 at 10:50 am

Oh. My. Gosh. Those Rush bowls are genius!!!! Congrats to you and Matt for finally getting that Monday morning run in too. A special congrats to not letting him talk you out of it 😉

36 Tammy @ Defining Wellness December 14, 2009 at 11:44 am

What a fantastic idea! I’m going to Whole Foods this week, so I’ll keep my eyes peeled!

37 Brie (The Fit Bride) December 14, 2009 at 11:47 am

Ooh, those look so good. Have you ever tried cottage cheese in your smoothies? It really ups the protein and makes it taste like cheesecake–I love 1/2 c. milk, 1/2 c. cottage cheese, 1 c. strawberries. It tastes EXACTLY like strawberry cheesecake! So good.

I also love that glass bowl. Pretty!

38 Kath December 14, 2009 at 3:16 pm

I have before, but I always forget! Thanks for the reminder!

39 Julie December 14, 2009 at 11:50 am

40 Jillian December 14, 2009 at 11:52 am

Saw the question: Is My Slow Cooker a Haven for Bacteria? on Fitness and remembered one of your earlier posts. It’s a pretty basic response, and I think you said the same thing, but here’s the link if you’re interested!

Good luck on your test! If there ever was a perfect fit it was you and this product as a standby!

45 Cat December 14, 2009 at 12:56 pm

Def stocking up on these do I don’t have to get a bagel w/ cream chese EVERY time I spend the night at his place. (just sometimes…after two years in Boston I haev a whole new appreciation for the glorious bagels of NYC!!)

48 Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope December 14, 2009 at 1:10 pm

What a neat, simple breakfast! Sounds delicious! Good luck on the test today. :)

49 megan December 14, 2009 at 1:22 pm

those look so good! I would totally buy them if I could find them. well, depending on how expensive they are :)

50 Heather December 14, 2009 at 1:34 pm

Those bowls are so cute!

I just got my 2 jars of Nuttzo from the free Open Sky thing! I’ll definitely be buying from there again, and I really love the Nuttzo. Thanks to you & Open Sky!

51 Pat December 14, 2009 at 1:41 pm

I finally tried your basic oatmeal this morning. Blended the Scottish Oats with the banana, milk and water. When it was done, I added a TBSP of peanut butter. I loved the flavor, but it was a lot “mushier” than my normal Scottish Oats cooked with water, then add in raisins/craisins and walnuts. I will have to try some other other combos. I really feel like this will hold me through to lunch though, well, with the addition of a ff latte to get me through my 2 hour meeting. :)

52 Naomi(onefitfoodie) December 14, 2009 at 1:43 pm

you were certainly the inspiration behind this creation, Kath! thanks for the product info, I am going to the website to learn more about it! what a great idea though and great name too RUSH is so catchy and looks fantastic all KERF’ed up 😉

53 eggie December 14, 2009 at 1:45 pm

What a great solution for a time-crunched morning! I’m always looking for quick on-the-go meal options.

57 Tracy December 14, 2009 at 3:16 pm

I would def be interested in purchasing the siab. We have no Whole Foods, Trader Joes, or any really good grocery store like that.

58 Anne @ the doctor takes a wife December 14, 2009 at 5:14 pm

These look AWESOME!! Are they in the freezer section @ Whole Foods?? I’m going to hunt them down asap :) Thanks for the find!!

59 Annalee December 15, 2009 at 12:27 am

Ah! The Power Bowl looks really good, except I too wish it did not involve the frozen yogurt, as I do not eat dairy!
Kath, I adore your blog. As a vegan, I rarely read food blogs that include meat/ dairy, but yours is the exception, due to the diversity of foods you blog about, and the useful information about nutrition that is interspersed in your posts.
Thanks for creating a really cool corner of the inter-web.

60 Kath December 15, 2009 at 9:41 am
