Running + Running Late

August 18, 2011

I’ve been running (4 miles – hot!) and packing and eating. Forgot about blogging!!

Today was a special day…one that comes around maybe 10-12 time a year. The end of a Sunflower Butter jar!!

I filled it with milk, yogurt, oats per the overnight oats recipe plus chia seeds, blueberries, raspberries, a little banana and Cville Cluster! I actually put this together two nights ago and had a smoothie yesterday instead. I can vouch that it was delicious and turned out fine, but it seems a leeeetle bit old.

Vanilla mint tea on the side – really liked this!! Golden Moon coming to OpenSky.

Time to pack some more. SO excited for my new phone on my travels! What a great way to break it in. I also found a cool alarm feature called Morning Rise (or something similar) where the alarm starts to play pretty music lightly 5 minutes before you wake up. Sweet!

Also downloaded Business Calendar that is really cool and prettier than the stock calendar. I’m using the Simple Calendar Widget too – so pretty!

Hopefully see ya from Philly!!

7 Cait's Plate August 18, 2011 at 9:26 am

The end of the Sunflower Butter jar is always bittersweet – so exciting because it means oats in a jar but also so sad because it’s the end!

Safe travels to Philly!!

8 Krissy @ Shiawase Life August 18, 2011 at 9:26 am

I have yet to try the Trader joe’s Sunflower Butter, but I had a Natrually More jar this morning that I am really excited about. My oats are in there and I’m trying really hard to patiently wait for them. :)

17 Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance August 18, 2011 at 9:43 am

What! That feature reminds me of those machines that play whale sounds and wilderness while you sleep to help ease your mind haha

18 Holly @ The Runny Egg August 18, 2011 at 9:46 am

I love that blue mug — so short and squatty! (is that a word?)

19 Haley August 18, 2011 at 9:56 am

I’m meeting my parents in Bristol,VA tomorrow (halfway point btwn our town & theirs – Richmond!) b/c they’re getting my girls and keeping them for a week! I said all that to say that she’s making a trip to TJ’s for me today to get me some SSB to bring tomorrow. Too bad they’ll be driving through Cville too late tomorrow evening to hit GH! OH, and I had some OIAB this morning after a 5-mile tempo run and the only yogurt I had to use was Pineapple Chobani. Next time I’m getting to the bottom of one of my TJ’s SSB jars, I’m totally going to recreate today’s version. Man, I’m excited already! Have fun in Philly!

Yummm OIAJ…one of my new favorite breakfasts! And even THAT you make look pretty with your photography skills!

24 Courtney @ Translating Nutrition August 18, 2011 at 10:34 am

It cracks me up when I see you write “per…” As a fellow dietitian it gets me every time :) Per MDs orders…enjoy your trip!

25 Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio August 18, 2011 at 10:37 am

Safe travels! Enjoy your new phone.

I hate to say it, but I made overnight oats with a banana and didn’t like it. I don’t know why, but it wasn’t appealing. I need to try it again without the banana.

26 [email protected] August 18, 2011 at 10:44 am

OooO traveling mercies to you and have fun Kath!

27 Hillary August 18, 2011 at 10:48 am

That alarm sounds way better than mine—the one that just starts BLARING at 5:45 am ; )

Safe travels!!

28 Rosa - Fitness, Food, Fulfilled August 18, 2011 at 10:49 am

Overnight oats are the best and I eat them like 3 – 4 times a week. Yum!

Have a great time at HLS! I’ll be joining you next year!

29 Khushboo August 18, 2011 at 10:51 am

“only 10-12 times a year”…hahah :)

30 Johanna B August 18, 2011 at 11:00 am

Must find interesting nut butters soon. Predicting OIAJ in my future.

31 CJ @ August 18, 2011 at 11:01 am

Travel safely!!! Starbucks in the hotel lobby so I’m sure you can get some wi- fi :-)

32 Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope August 18, 2011 at 11:10 am

Sounds like a busy morning! I need to pick up TJ’s Sunflower Seed Butter again… SO good.

Hope everything goes great with your trip there!

33 Angel7 August 18, 2011 at 11:12 am

I did not know that Trader Joe’s has Sunflower Seed Flower. I will have to get a couple jars of it.

34 Liv @ The Salty n' Sweet August 18, 2011 at 11:14 am

I saw you yesterday at Great Harvest, but you were in a meeting so I didn’t want to disturb!

Have a quick and safe trip and I can’t wait to meet you at HLS :)

35 KathEats August 18, 2011 at 11:26 am

I saw you!! Sorry I couldn’t say hello.

36 Kelly August 18, 2011 at 11:18 am

Wait.. it takes you a month to get to the bottom of a nut butter jar? Or just a sunflower butter jar? I may have a breakdown if it is the former because I swear I go through at least 2 a month.

37 KathEats August 18, 2011 at 11:27 am

Yeah, cause I have other jars going at the same time

38 Aine @ Something to Chew Over August 18, 2011 at 11:22 am

Yum! I have a near-empty jar of peanut butter that I’m dying to use :)

Safe trip and enjoy HLS!

39 Lynda @ healthy hoboken girl August 18, 2011 at 11:37 am

Safe travels…I’ll be at the HLS too. Can’t wait to meet you!

Enjoy your new phone.

40 Kristin August 18, 2011 at 11:38 am

If I were Homer Simpson I would say “mmmmmmmmm Sunflowerseed Butter!” And when the jar is empty I would let out a very loud, “D’oh!” Yep I am a nered!

41 Joyce @ Jranola Joyce August 18, 2011 at 11:40 am

love me some sunflowerseed butter!

42 Cait @ beyond bananas August 18, 2011 at 12:20 pm

Only 10-12 times a year?? I devour Ssb! To the point where I can’t use it for oiaj bc there is not a smudge left!

43 Kerstin August 18, 2011 at 12:28 pm

I made my very first overnight oats in that same jar last week and loved it. Currently eating overnight oats in a small mason jar @ work. Yummy! Thanks for the idea and safe travels

44 Sarah August 18, 2011 at 12:59 pm

Question: Do you refrigerate your sun flower seed butter? I noticed this morning that the Trader Joe’s brand says to refrigerate but the SunButter brand does not (says not necessary/preference on the Web site).

45 Kath August 18, 2011 at 2:48 pm

I do not! I don’t think any nut butters need it unless you don’t want much separation. I like it runny

46 Sarah August 18, 2011 at 3:01 pm

Awesome, so I have nothing to fear! Since you said you go through 10-12 jars per year, it sounds like we go through them about the same rate. Glad to know I can safely leave it in the cabinet for a month and it’ll still taste great. I like mine runny, too. :) Thanks for responding, Kath!

47 Melissa @ Journey to Marvelous August 18, 2011 at 1:25 pm

I have a brand-new Sunflower Butter jar at home waiting for me to try! I have high hopes for it since it is so popular with all of the bloggers!

48 Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats August 18, 2011 at 1:52 pm

Mmm! Oats in an almost empty jar is my favorite breakfast to wake up to! :)

49 Katie @ Peace Love and Oats August 18, 2011 at 2:14 pm

I’ve found the same thing: overnight oats are best the next day, the day after is fine but just not the same. Have a great weekend! So jealous!

50 Balancing Sylvia August 18, 2011 at 2:26 pm

Just bought my first jar of Sunbutter thanks to you, Cait and Allie always raving about it. It’s funny because I thought it was drippy because you put it on your oats but it turns out it’s just really really drippy. 😀 Have a great day Kath!

51 Hilary August 18, 2011 at 3:03 pm

Have a wonderful time! I have never tried Sunflower butter but I am hoping to soon! Tried to make my own once=fail.

52 Larbs August 18, 2011 at 3:07 pm

Sounds like my sunrise alarm clock that slowly turns the light on over 30 minutes!

53 Molly @ RDexposed August 18, 2011 at 6:11 pm

I had someone tell me they follow the blood type diet and can’t have sunflower seeds. My immidiate thought: no sunflower butter then?!

54 Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin August 18, 2011 at 6:13 pm

Haha I’ve never tried having 2 day old overnight oats… and I don’t think I’d want to! 😛

Have a safe flight!

55 Hannah August 18, 2011 at 6:15 pm

I’ve forbidden myself from buying Sunflower Seed butter, because I kept going through entire jars in two days with a spoon. :(

56 Sandy August 18, 2011 at 9:02 pm

Cvile Cluster has become my absolute favorite snack in the world!! I bought the bundle a while back…haven’t tried the pancake mix, but have had the oatmeal & I’m almost through the whole bag of granola. LOVE IT! I was starting to panic b/c it was getting low. Wondering when it would be back on Opensky….so I thought I’d check the site and there it was! I just bought the Groovy Granola & Cville Cluster combo a few minutes ago. Yey!

57 Samantha August 18, 2011 at 10:34 pm

Love those mugs, but I wish the were bigger:(
I’ve been making a big batch of O.N.Oats so I don’t have to make them day after day. I make them in the big yogurt tub and then take out a portion. They seem great days later still. Love them with cacao nibs!

58 Lexi @ A Spoonful of Sunshine August 19, 2011 at 1:54 pm

TJ’s sunflower butter is so so so good. Maybe even better than peanut butter on occasions? I didn’t even think that was possible :)

59 Haley Peterson March 12, 2012 at 8:43 pm

Hi, Kath! I found your blog a month or two ago through another food blogger’s website and I absolutely love everything you do. I want to become an RD in the future and I can’t tell you how inspired I have been by all of your meals (especially breakfast–favorite meal of the day!). Some of my favorites are overnight oats and all your delicious oatmeal combinations.

After I started reading your blog, I went to my local Trader Joe’s and bought a jar of sunflower seed butter (it was something I have been meaning to try anyway) and now I’m hooked! I have been slowly eating my way through the jar and I can’t wait for until I reach the end so that I can make overnight oiaj just like this. :)

Thanks for all the great recipes inspirations!
