Run With The Breeze

October 11, 2009

After reading about my run with Sarah on the blog, Matt A. had challenged me to beat my split times with him. So last night we set a date for an 8AM run. We all agreed it would be better to run first thing than wait until mid morning.

Alarm went off at 7:45…I was in the mood to run, but my body was not primed! Too much bedtime wine + sugar. A few text messages later, I told him to lower his expectations for speed, but I was coming :)

Man is Matt fast!!! He paced me to run the fastest non-race mile of my life: 8:02!

Here were our splits:

  1. 8:02
  2. 8:10
  3. 8:33
  4. 8:31

And then .75 of a mile more.

Is it bad that I felt like I had slowed down sooo much and was still running an 8:31 mile!? The boys [my Matt came too – he is also fast] were breezing through, but I was totally beat by the end. Matt challenged me to some sprint intervals in the last .75 mile and we were running a 6:50 pace for some of it! WHEW.

I couldn’t wait to come inside for breakfast

Can you guess what I had???

Leftover millet + amaranth grits!

Reheated in the microwave with half a banana and a splash of 2% milk. Plus kiwi, blueberries, some preserves and about 1/5 of a crumbled Pro Bar.

2 small mugs of coffee

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet…

We just had a Younger Family meeting and in a bit we are saying goodbye to my parents, who are heading back to Hillsborough today. We’re here for 24 more hours and while the weather is a bit overcast, we’re hoping to get in some fun beach time, a walk to Lighthouse Landing with mom, and possibly a couple’s soccer game this afternoon.

See y’all then!

Sounds like a great start to Sunday! Enjoy the rest of your trip and all of the “couples” fun!

2 Sarah October 11, 2009 at 10:32 am

An 8 am run on a Sunday?? I can’t think of anything more unappealing. Try relaxing, hanging out for God’s sake.

3 Kath October 11, 2009 at 10:36 am

That’s exactly what I plan to do all afternoon. The run was awesome and beautiful.

4 Madeline @ Greens and Jeans October 11, 2009 at 11:05 am

Yay for a great run! Nothing having something like that kick off your day!

5 Ellen October 11, 2009 at 11:18 am

wow, i think i need some guys to run with me! i know i’m capable of running faster than a 9 min pace, but i can never push myself to do it unless i’m racing. that’s very impressive :)

the breakfast looks amazing. i love millet! i actually just found some millet flakes here in italy and am excited to try it for breakfast tomorrow.

6 Jessica @ How Sweet It Is October 11, 2009 at 11:29 am

Those are some impressive time!

Hi Kath, it looks like you had a beautiful time with your family. What happens at a Younger family meeting?

8 Kat (Kat's Daily Plate) October 11, 2009 at 11:54 am

Good for you for getting up early and running on a vacation/ Sunday morning! Exercise is the BEST way to start the day!

9 Jenna October 11, 2009 at 12:13 pm

Awesome job on the run! It is amazing what a run can do for your spirits :)

10 Shannon (The Daily Balance) October 11, 2009 at 12:13 pm

Nice runs!!! I’m curious about this Younger family meeting!

11 Kristen October 11, 2009 at 12:20 pm

Ooh, soccer game! Good plan! 😉

Is it just me or do the Matts look quite a bit alike?

12 Katharina October 11, 2009 at 12:20 pm

I LOVE breakfasts with an array of fruits. And mixed grains? Even better!

I hope you enjoy the rest of your day 😀

p.s. I agree with some of the people above me. I know that when I get back from a run, I feel so happy and I’m in such a cheerful mood.

13 Deva (Voracious Vorilee) October 11, 2009 at 12:23 pm

An early morning run sounds super fun right now! I was catching up on sleep while you were out sprinting! It looks like you are having a fabulous weekend, and looking at your post from last night, the cake you had sounds fabulous :-)

14 sarah (ghost world) October 11, 2009 at 12:52 pm

YAY, awesome run! we’ll just have to go even FASTER next time!!!

15 sarah (ghost world) October 11, 2009 at 12:53 pm

16 Karina (Like Some Cat from Japan) October 11, 2009 at 12:55 pm

Great way to start your day off.
Have fun at the game!

17 Chloe (Naturally Frugal) October 11, 2009 at 1:02 pm

Nice work on the splits! It’s always fun to have someone there to motivate you and push you along every once in a while, even just to mix up the workout every once in a while.

18 Jenn Eats Nutritiously Now October 11, 2009 at 1:04 pm

Soccer sounds fun. Have a great Sunday!

19 Susan October 11, 2009 at 1:10 pm

Awesome work!! Sometimes all you need is someone to push you a little 😉 I find running a quick mile to be pretty easy – it’s always those miles that follow that are the hardest 😛 Enjoy your last day there!

20 angieinatlanta October 11, 2009 at 1:31 pm

Kick booty run!

I love running with my boyfriend; I always have to push myself to keep up with him!

21 Joelle (The Pancake Girl) October 11, 2009 at 1:35 pm

WHOA homegirl you are FAST! Way to go!

22 Hallie (Healthy Twists) October 11, 2009 at 1:58 pm

Haha I woke up at 7:15 to work out and I thought as I was running (since I didn’t start my run til almost 9:30), I really should wake up earlier and get started sooner next time and then I’ll have more of my day to relax.

Wow speedy! Amazing job. I’m so new to running so I’m working on just being comfortable out there, but I hope to one day increase my speed as well.

23 Emily, homecookedem October 11, 2009 at 2:04 pm

WOW! That is crazy fast!! Enjoy your last bit of vacation!! :)

24 Jenn (www. ) October 11, 2009 at 2:25 pm

Your breakfast bowl looks like a hotel breakfast. :) You look so itty bitty in between the 2 towering men lol.

25 lynn (The Actors Diet) October 11, 2009 at 2:44 pm

Looks like you are having a beautiful weekend!

28 Sarah Jayne October 11, 2009 at 5:22 pm

I would be COMPLETELY wiped out after a run that fast! Way to challenge yourself and kick some booty!

Your photography skills keep getting better & better. Such gorgeous pics!

29 theskinnyplate October 11, 2009 at 5:50 pm

Great weekend with great company! Enjoy the rest of it.

30 Lizzy October 11, 2009 at 6:29 pm

wonderful run girl! congrats!

31 Sarah October 11, 2009 at 7:03 pm

Uh give me a break. The best way to start a Sunday (it’s the WEEKEND, remember?) is nice and leisurely. Maybe have a nice time in the sack. Let’s get real here.

32 Sara October 11, 2009 at 7:12 pm

Sarah please, calm down! Some people actually DO enjoy getting up early on the weekend to go for a run, workout, etc. I love how just because YOU don’t think that is the proper way to start a Sunday you are sounding so snobby about it. Just because you would rather lounge in the morning, anybody who wouldn’t isn’t nomal? CHILL OUT!

33 Food Makes Fun Fuel October 11, 2009 at 7:34 pm

Nice run! Hope the soccer game goes(or went) well

34 Eileen October 11, 2009 at 7:42 pm

GREAT run! I was out there at 8:30, too … I have kids, so I can’t always be choosy about when I run, and many people just enjoy it most in the morning anyway! I had lots of company on my beautiful fall run!

The Matts are totally handsome, and totally look alike!

35 alyssa October 11, 2009 at 7:53 pm

sounds like Sarah’s a little jealous she can’t wake up early motivated to work out. good for you for getting out there and doin’ your thang kath :) you’ve got the fabulous bod to show for it!

36 Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers October 11, 2009 at 7:55 pm

great job getting your run done first thing! coming home to that fresh kiwi sounds like great running motivation. 😉

37 Jenna October 11, 2009 at 8:03 pm

great run and a good lookin breaky!

38 maria October 11, 2009 at 8:16 pm

Running with a partner can be really good if you have trouble doing speed work alone.

Sounds like a fabulous afternoon plan.

39 AnnQ October 11, 2009 at 8:56 pm

Great run! I agree – I *love* running before I do anything else on a weekend! :-)

40 Wendy October 11, 2009 at 9:04 pm

I’m in the same boat as Eileen – my kids dictate when I get to run. But first thing in the morning, when given the chance, is my favorite time to go! Especially in the fall. Love the beach scenery, too.

Great run, speedy lady, and your Matts are adorable! :)

41 Sarah October 11, 2009 at 9:41 pm

Jealous? no way… I love running in the a.m. as well but getting up at 8 a.m. on a Sunday for pete’s sake? Ridic.

42 Emily (Emily Eats and Exercises) October 11, 2009 at 9:51 pm

I’m so impressed with your speed! If you ever feel like posting any suggestions about how to improve running speed, I’m all ears.
Enjoy the rest of the vacation.

43 Jac October 12, 2009 at 7:47 am
