New York Morning!!!
I went for a glorious solo run through Central Park!! Had half a banana and a few big swigs of water before I left.
Took my phone with me for security photography!
Ran up through the park (there were TONS of other people walking, biking, tai chiing!) and around the Roosevelt Reservoir. I think I ran about 5 to 5.5 miles. Felt great – especially not to have hills!!
I quickly showered and dressed and made my way to the big conference breakfast
Check out all the breadz, muffins and pastries!!!
Egg mcwichs, bagels, fruits
OATZ!!!
Tropicana, yogurts, naners
I debated between yogurt and oats and eventually went with oats – juiced up with berries!!
Plus a carrot raisin loaf that I shared with Tina (carrots, yo!) and crumbled the rest into my oats – SUCH a good idea. Bread mashed into oats is the best way to turn watery buffet oatmeal into a sweet delicious bowl of flavor.
Plus coffee, and a taste of the Tropicana Grapefruit. One question: why isn’t it PINK!? That’s what makes grapefruit juice so fun
And a banana for tomorrow!
Let the madness begin!

I love grapefruit juice! Looks like a delicious breakfast! Have a great weekend.
Looks like you are having a great time in the Big City!
I give you kudos for doing a solo run in NYC! Not so sure I would be brave enough to walk it alone =)
… maybe because they made it with yellow grapefruits?
I don’t like yellow grapefruits, but adore pink. I’m pretty sure you’re right and I like it just for the color .. hehhe!
exactly- not all grapefruit are pink (the yummiest are tho)
Who needs an iPod when you’re running in NYC!!
Sounds like a fun day! Can’t wait to hear about what’s learned
Sounds like a great start to the day– I love running in Central Park!
Have so much fun today!
I love having breakfast made for me. It’s such a nice treat.
Looks yummy.
I’ve never even seen prepared oatmeal at a hotel buffet before I started reading your blog… I wonder if you’re changing the world, one buffet at a time?
Have an amazing day – can’t WAIT to read about it!
i’m really kicking myself for not going to blogher this year!! fun!! it looks like you had a refreshing run!
that is great you got your run in also.
SO cool! I wish I could’ve run through NYC with you!! I cannot wait to hear about your day (and be GREEN IN THE FACE WITH ENVY
)
Sounds like the perfect morning! Enjoy your day in NY!!!
Running in NYC is on my bucket list. I can’t believe you did it alone but looks so beautiful!
What a beautiful run you had this morning:) I love that they had what looks like home made oats for you at the conference! Have a great day!
Have a fabulous day, Kath!!! Mashing bread into oatmeal is the best!
How awesome to run through Central Park! I remember going there a few years ago and loving it!
Great breakfast — I would have gone with the egg sandwiches, but to each their own!
How cool to run around NYC? Lucky!!
Have tons of fun!!
I’ve always wanted to run through Central Park!! My dad did that a couple weeks ago and kept saying how nice it was
Have so much fun! It must be so cool to run through Central Park. It was a good idea to bring your phone.
Have a great time! Runs through Central Park are the best
way to go on that great run! i would love nothing more than to go through central park in the morning! it looks beautiful
I’m so impressed with your ability to get up after a night of partying to go running by yourself! When others are sleeping in, I have a hard time getting up before them!
Thus, my challenge for our vacation week
~Alyssa
I did the Central Park Underwear Run before the NYC Triathlon a few weeks ago—silly & fun! It’s always better to be safe than sorry but that area of the Park at that time of day is uber-safe. Enjoy Day 1!
I’m sorry, but the idea you brought your phone for security made made laugh! It’s not dangerous, chill out!!!
@ Trish- it’s not about being brave. Chill out as well!
Wow.
Oh my goodness that breakfast spread looks amazing!!! That run you took looks nice! There’s something about doing exercise in the city that is really nice. I go to Chicago in two weeks for school and I know I’m looking forward to hitting that pavement!
Have fun – can’t wait to follow along.
@ Jen
But isn’t it smart to bring your phone with you…regardless? I always take my phone on runs, mostly because I run alone at 5am, and want to be able to call my husband If I injure myself. Granted, I run in a small town (compared to NYC) in Idaho and I’m the only one on the road.
that looked like an awesome run! what a breakfast spread! hope you’re having a good time
Wow what a fun run, go get them tiger!
Ahhh looks like so much fun!
Running in a new city is my favorite thing about traveling. Hope you enjoy the day and learn lots!
I miss running through Central Park. Looks like it was a nice run!
That looks awesome! I would have a problem running along roads because the cars exhaust really kills me when I’m running. Verrry cool though.
Wait, are you staying at the same hotel as Tina? Man, this really is the blogger event of the year! All of my favourite bloggers are there!
Wei-Wei
What an exciting run! And then to return to that breakfast spread…SIMPLY GLORIOUS!! Have fun at the conference!
yes, crumbled pastry IS wonderful to spruce up blah oatmeal!
Have fun! I love NYC.
As a New Yorker, I think it’s really funny that people are thinking “Oh my god?!?!?!?! She ran ALONE in Central Park?!?!?!?!” You guys, New York is one of the safest cities in the world. I have lived here most of my life and have never once felt threatened or unsafe. I run alone in the park all of the time, and so do countless active women in the city. Sorry, but I feel the need to protect my city from misconceptions!
I can NOT wait to move there in January!!!
I hope your enjoying every bit of it.
I remember thinking it was so cool to see so many joggers/tai chiers in NYC! It’s SUCH a fit city. I think the fact you have to talk everywhere or sit in traffic for hours has something to do with it too.
sounds like a great start to the day! I busy parts of town that are bursting with other people doing activities =)

Love the pictures of NYC and thanks for taking us with you on your run (thru your pictures).
I always wanted to run at Central Park, I think it would so peaceful and relaxing. Last time I was in NYC, I wasn’t a runner yet and it was in January and freezing
Central park seems like it would be such a nice place to run! People are always running there in movies and tv shows, which makes me really want to do it!
What a glorious run! Hope you’re having a BlogHer blast today
Oh that looks like a great breakfast!
Running around the reservoir is my favorite run! So relaxing — hard to believe you’re in the middle of a bustling area of Manhattan. If you have time you should venture out to run by the rivers – I’m partial to the East River since it’s close to my apartment and you get to go through the beautiful Carl Shultz park! Enjoy NYC!
@ Allison- I agree then it’s smart to bring your phone if you are alone in a place like Idaho. But as Kelly says, it’s New York, one of the safest cities in the world. I have felt way more unsafe in the burbs than I do in the city.
Just a “food for thought” comment… in the end it’s probably more perspective than anything. My hunch is that people are generally most comfortable in the setting in which they normally reside. Someone who is from the ‘burbs probably feels as safe there as you do in the city. As Alison mentioned in her comment, she brings her phone in case she gets injured– not because she feels unsafe where she lives.
I wish I could remember the name of the program, but I saw something once where they had people from an affulent neighborhood go in to the depressed inner city and they felt afraid. They also took from people from the inner city and had them go in to the affulent neighborhood and they felt equally afraid even though the affulent area had a general reputation for being more safe.
@ Alex- YAY! NYC is the best place to live- well, maybe the boroughs as well- ever!
NYC actually INCLUDES all the boroughs, just an FYI. Also, having run in this lovely city for many years, I think it’s definitely smart to bring a phone if the area is unfamiliar.
Have fun at BlogHer, Kath!
@Kath- DISFRUTALO!!!
How fun! I can’t think of anything better than a run in Central Park!
what a spread! have a great time in NYC!
That breakfast looks like heaven after a run!! From what I’ve read about BlogHer, it sounds like a ridiculous amount of fun that I might just have to experience next year! Have a great time!
your run looks beautiful. I have always wanted to run in central park!
Wow loooks like a deeeelicious breakfast!! I wouldn’t have known WHAT to choose!
I’m jealous though!! i want to go back to NY so bad xx
@Paige- I know well what NYC includes- I am native NYer. And while I respect your opinion on bringing a phone, I respectfully disagree.
That’s quite the spread for a conference! Lots of choices!
The reservoir is where I fell in love with running, glad you had a great run there this morning! I must say, this post makes me really nostalgic for when I lived in NYC…even though it was less than two months ago that I actually live there.
Enjoy Blogher!
Bringing my phone was more because I was running alone and might have gotten lost/hurt – not because I felt unsafe. There were TONS of people out.
Cool, thanks for clarifying Kath!
Even though I live in NY, seeing pictures of our city makes me so excited and nostalgic, lol.
