Pool Of Oats

August 19, 2009

Wouldn’t it be fun to slide down this spoon into a pool of oats!? Maybe for like 2 minutes – then it would just be gross ;)

I wanted to do yoga first thing again this morning, but Matt is working 9-5 today and got to sleep in. Then he requested that I cook him oatmeal while he got ready. How could I say no!?

I used this MojaMix KERF Rockin’ Oatmeal mix as the base.

For 2 people:

  • 1 cup mix
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup 2% milk
  • 1 banana
  • Splash vanilla

Toppings:

Love the figs + dates in the mix. I also love the Barney Butter packets.

Pros:

  • Portion control
  • Easy to squirt all over
  • Portable

Cons:

  • More packaging waste

SO good and filling -

Last night my run caught up with me and my stomach was growling at 9PM, so I had a bowl of this new Erewhon Raisin Bran I was sent as a sample. It’s pretty good! Not your traditional flakes, but more smaller, crunchier flakes. Less sugar too. Loved the raisin bites.

Announcing Real Food Consultations!!!

A whole summer in the making, I am super excited to announce that I have partnered with Mary Brown, MS, RD, LDN to offer online nutrition consultations!!

Real Food Consultations

Many of you have asked me over the past year and a half for personal diet advice, and unfortunately I haven’t had the time or qualifications to work with you. But a new partnership with Nutrition Specialists will allow Mary and I to work together and offer online consultations to those who are interested. I will be doing the bulk of the work – using nutrition software and making recommendations and meal plans based on my food philosophies and analysis of your individual diet and lifestyle diary – and as a Registered Dietitian, Mary will be checking off on all of the reports. Since I want to take my career in the direction of online nutrition, this opportunity will be wonderful experience to build.

We’ve put together three packages that reflect different budgets and needs:

Instant Oatmeal

Whipped Banana Oatmeal

The Oatmeal Buffet

Email Questions + Follow-ups

If you’re interested in a consultation, please note that I can’t handle a lot at once and will be scheduling them into my calendar on a first-come, first-serve basis. Mary and I will complete as many as we can in a reasonable time each week. So hypothetically if we had 25 orders today, I’d assign a few each week throughout the fall. Just so you know in advance :)

If you’ve been wanting to get a personal assessment, hope you’ll take advantage!

Got a lot to do today!!

How exciting! It’s so satisfying to see one’s hard work come to fruition. And the oatmeal looks fantastic. (PS, though, you have a little typo: it’s ‘Erewhon’ – no biggie – I’ve actually been known to pronounce it the way you spelled it! Just didn’t want them to get mad at ya.)

Way to go on the online consults! Sounds rad.

Also, I feel you on the portion size vs. hating waste issue on the single serve packages. I found some single serve Sabra hummus cups (!!) at Costco and while they are the PERFECT serving, I feel bad about the waste.

Wow, that bowl of oats looks extra creamy and awesome today! Have you had much of the MojaMix before? Do you have a favorite product/ease of website use/variety/cost between “mixmygranola” and “mojamix?” I found another make your own granola/cereal company called “[me] & goji,” have you ever used their product? I’m very interested in how these websites work when I think about how I’m going to develop ota.bars further!

I tried that raisin bran a while back, hated it at first, then became addicted, and just recently forgot all about it…until now. :D It really is different then the typical raisin bran, but I love it with soymilk, which helps to sweeten it up a bit. :D

Thanks to everyone for your support and enthusiasm!!

Sarah ,
I love the SF milk so far. Not sure how much of a taste difference there is between milks, but I def. like it. Then again, I got 2%, which is always a treat ;)

BethT ,
Oh fun!

Ashley ,
Between all the mix companies, all of my mixes have been so different so it would be like comparing apples to oranges. I love Mix My Granola – it’s just fun. me&goji’s flaked cereal with chia seeds that I had was awesome. And I really like this Moja oatmeal. But I can’t speak for all the others combos!

Ania ,
I’m more a fan of talking on the phone these days – I spend to much time on the computer! Let me know if you want to chat though.

teresa,
It was the 2010 Weight Watchers book, so not for a year!
