It was an early morning..

But opening is always fun because you get to set up shop! Let the creativity flow.

Taking muffins from the oven and arranging them on shiny platters

I had half an apple, the top of a broken Apple Streusel Muffin, 2 mugs of coffee (one decaf) and just now – a hot slice of Cinnamon Raisin Walnut straight from the oven!

For the past 3 hours (WOW IT’S BEEN 3 HOURS!?) I’ve been working on our front counter displays, sweet arrangements, and more – getting ready for the day

Ah to work in a bakery!!! Was always my childhood dream.

2 [email protected] for the Soul December 23, 2011 at 1:11 pm

hahahaa mine too!! Except I got to do it for a year, and it was MY business…:P
Kath, your store looks impeccably clean and PERFECT. I’m not just saying it either.

3 kelsey December 23, 2011 at 9:12 am

That looks awesome! I bet you guys will be PACKED today!

4 Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile December 23, 2011 at 9:14 am

Everything looks sooo good! I’d have so much fun working there 😀

5 Katie @ Peace Love and Oats December 23, 2011 at 9:19 am

That is an early morning but I’m sure plenty of people will be appreciating all your efforts and baked goods today!

6 The Mrs @ Success Along the Weigh December 23, 2011 at 9:21 am

Man your GH is MUCH more appealing than the one we have close to us. Yours looks like a chic bakery, ours is messy and they’ve sold our cinnamon swirl bread out from under us. Boo! I wish all of them were like yours!

7 Pat December 23, 2011 at 1:33 pm

Ours was more toward the end of the spectrum you describe, then this fall it closed for a week or so and remodeled. Much more like Kath’s now. I just wish it was closer. I only get there once a month or so.

8 Blessing @ Working Mom Journal December 23, 2011 at 9:26 am

You guys are hard at work. I love how everything is neatly organized.

9 Susan H. @ the food allergy chronicles December 23, 2011 at 9:31 am

Wow! What a set up! I love the look of your bakery and all the yummy goodies to boot! Great job! I will also be busy baking cookies today for over the holidays…need to stock up…I keep giving them away! lol Have a great day!

10 kalli December 23, 2011 at 9:36 am

11 Cait's Plate December 23, 2011 at 9:40 am

Good luck!! I’m sure everything will just be FLYING off the shelf! If I were there I think I could single-handedly accomplish that for you! :)

12 Cait's Plate December 23, 2011 at 11:08 am

PS – did you get a haircut?? It looks short and super cute! :)

13 KathEats December 23, 2011 at 11:15 am

Yeah! A few weeks ago :)

14 kathleen @ the daily crumb December 23, 2011 at 9:48 am

15 Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat December 23, 2011 at 9:49 am

Everything looks AMAZING Kath!!! Your post title reminds me of when I was little and my friends and I would ‘play bakery’ with easy bake ovens. Those were the days!! :) Have a great Friday!

16 E December 23, 2011 at 9:50 am

Is that a Cambridge university sweatshirt you’re wearing?!? I went there for my masters and lived their for a while- it was magical! (if it’s not, just ignore me!)

17 E December 23, 2011 at 9:51 am

18 KathEats December 23, 2011 at 10:24 am

Yep!!! I studied there one summer in college!

19 Elisabeth December 23, 2011 at 6:12 pm

How cool! I’ve wished since college that I had taken the time to do something like that 😉

20 Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries December 23, 2011 at 9:53 am

21 Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table December 23, 2011 at 10:05 am

It all looks so good! I don’t know how you are able to work around all that deliciousness. :)

22 Gina @ Running to the Kitchen December 23, 2011 at 10:12 am

Working in a bakery this time of year must be so much fun. Busy, but I bet fun! Enjoy!

23 Meagan December 23, 2011 at 10:13 am

When you envisioned your life, did you ever imagine you’d own and run a bakery?! So cool.

24 KathEats December 23, 2011 at 10:24 am

Never in a million years. Seriously.

25 Erin December 24, 2011 at 5:13 pm

Haha. I never in a million years imagined I would move away from Virginia, and now I live in Japan! Funny how things don’t turn out the way you think they will.

26 Johanna B December 23, 2011 at 10:13 am

It might be worth giving up my gluten free pigheadishness for one day right about now.

27 Jennifer December 23, 2011 at 10:36 am

I wish I lived closer. Everything looks so yummy!

28 Deva @ Deva by Definition December 23, 2011 at 10:41 am

that definitely sounds like a good way to get the day started – yummy baked good, time with your hubby, and an early start! I love getting up early – it’s so peaceful out.

29 Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga December 23, 2011 at 10:46 am

Scuffins, bars, dessert heaven is in full force in your world. Don’t work too hard…I know all that baking isn’t just fun and games…it’s a lot of work! But fun work I hope :)

30 Erika - The Teenage Taste December 23, 2011 at 10:59 am

Wow, you are two busy bees! The bakery looks great though! So pretty and organized! 😀

31 Mom December 23, 2011 at 11:00 am

32 Angel7 December 23, 2011 at 11:05 am

Coffee and sweet treats go good together :)

33 Jeni @ hippiewildmama December 23, 2011 at 11:25 am

You make work look fun! It looks like business is thriving, congratulations, I’m happy for you guys!

34 Amanda December 23, 2011 at 11:27 am

Your store looks fantastic! Definitely a nice shopping experience for your customers. :)

35 Lee December 23, 2011 at 11:29 am

Does Great Harvest have exact recipes that you have to follow or can you improvise when you bake? Everything looks delicious.

36 J3nn(Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) December 23, 2011 at 11:42 am

Everything looks great, Kath! Good luck today!!

37 Krista December 23, 2011 at 11:47 am

I’m a very early morning person, so a busy morning in a bakery with a good cup of coffee, getting ready for the day sounds fantastic to me. I am incredibly jealous of your success with GH! I would love to do that with my husband some day. What a dream job!

38 Erin @ Big Girl Feats December 23, 2011 at 11:56 am

Oh yummm! I would love to organize the under cabinet parts too. And labeled containers! I think I’m swooning more about the possibilities of organization over the baked items (although those are pretty amazing too). 😉

39 Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife December 23, 2011 at 11:56 am

WOW–how fun! Have a great day selling :)

40 Stacy @ Say It With Sprinkles December 23, 2011 at 12:50 pm

Fun day at the bakery! Although I have to say, being surrounded by that many sweets would be SO dangerous for me, haha!

41 Maren December 23, 2011 at 2:30 pm

I love when I get on an organization/cleaning roll and I end up cleaning almost everything I own!! It’s the best.

42 Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count December 23, 2011 at 3:56 pm

Wow, that’s got to be a lot of work! The bakery looks terrific!

43 Zoe @ loseweightandgainhealth December 23, 2011 at 4:13 pm

Your bakery looks like a fun place to work. But for my health, I couldn’t work there because everything looks so amazing I would have to eat it and I would end up twice the size I already am! The displays look great too.

44 Lexi @ A Spoonful of Sunshine December 23, 2011 at 4:39 pm

Praline scuffins?!!? I thought those only existed in my dreams..

45 The Healthy Apple December 23, 2011 at 5:56 pm

This looks so pretty! I wish I lived closer to you so I could come play with all your goodies.
Love you and miss you!

46 Megan December 23, 2011 at 9:09 pm

Nice lookin’ bakery you’ve got there Kath!! It’s very appealing to the eye and not to mention, probably the stomach :)

47 Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] December 23, 2011 at 11:03 pm
