Play > Labor

September 6, 2010

Good evening! Hope y’all had lots of Labor Day fun. Our day was quite relaxing.

|Thismuch| labor was done. | T H I S M U C H | playing was done.

After a bit of work, we set out on foot to the UVA grounds where we met up with two new blog-reading friends!

Heather + Erin

IMG_0606 (640x480)

Both are grad students. Heather actually lives in the cool East Range. I’m sure of the technical description, but consider it a cross between a historic house and a dorm room. Creative juices MUST flow in such a cool space :)

IMG_0607 (480x640)

The purpose of our date, other than to become friends, was obviously to seek Arch’s.

Today I bypassed the gooey brownie and got the tart flavor (Arch’s only has a few flavors on draft and this was the first time I’ve tasted the tart there) with granola. Both were impressive!

IMG_0609 (640x480)

Matt got this peanut butter chocolate bad boy. I had a few tastes of peanut butter nougat!

IMG_0612 (480x640)

We walked back home (a total of 3 miles round trip) in the bright sun to settle down for an easy dinner a bit later.

IMG_2650 (640x427) (2)

A lentil salad made of staples and leftovers:

"Fall Is Coming" Lentil Salad

IMG_2643 (640x427)

The Mix included in various forgotten measurements:

  • Freshly cooked brown lentils
  • Red quinoa
  • Butternut squash cubes
  • Grilled zucchini
  • 1 whole raw apple
  • Walnuts
  • 2 dates
  • Curry Herb Yogurt Sauce (same as I made last week, it was that good.)
  • Sea salt

IMG_2644 (640x427)

It was filling and awesome! I only wish we had leftovers of the leftovers :*(

IMG_2647 (640x427) (2)

IMG_2642 (640x427)

After dinner I watched the movie Remember Me with Robert Pattinson

I cannot believe:

1) That he is Cedric Diggory [Matt informed me of this tonight]

and

2) That he is 4 years YOUNGER than I am!

Craziness.

The movie was poignant (I always use that word to describe movies) and the ending was particularly so. I enjoyed it.

I believe Matt’s brother Andrew is stopping by to sleep here for just a few hours on his way from DC to Charlotte. Better go make the bed!

You and Matt impress me so much with your meals! Each meal is so creative – nothing ever seems slopped together. And if it is, the ingredients are phenomenal!

I LOVE Robert Pattinson (mostly because he is Edward Cullen lol) and have been meaning to see that movie! I remember the night my roommates came home after they had seen it, and they were like in another universe talking about life and stuff. It’s crazy that he is Cedric Diggory! I can’t believe he has been in in HP series and The Twilight Saga!

You didn’t know he was Cedric? *sigh* I’ve been swooning for him SINCE he’s been Cedric. I remember one of my best friends in HS coming over and we would watch *only* the Diggory scenes! Mmmm!

Gosh that dinner deserves an “Mmm” too….shame about the leftovers!

Remember Me was poignant… I’m glad you enjoyed it! I liked bits of it a lot, but I wish they would have advertised it more accurately. It was not what I had in mind to watch that day, and my mom and I both left very disappointed.

I think it’s so neat you’re that close to a campus, and can head over just for walking around. I visited my old campus on Friday, and was flooded with just how lovely the atmosphere is. I wish I could be there always.

The fall-inspired salad looks delicious, and I LOVE the leaf plate :) . Autumn is by far my favorite season of ‘em all and I cannot wait for crisp weather, pumpkin baked goods, and sweaters!

I really enjoyed Remember Me. Rob Pattinson is a great actor – I don’t think his role in Twilight allows him to illustrate his full acting potential. Remember Me really was quite poignant, as you wrote.

60 Lauren September 7, 2010 at 6:05 am

Rob Pattinson, I feel like I just saw a movie with him in it. I think it was with Demi Moore? Regardless, a good actor but Remember Me was not my favorite. I agree with your review!

Your lentil salad sounds amazing – lots of ingredients I love. How did you prepare the butternut squash? I love squash, but so often I get to impatient to cook and cut it. I also might have to try figs again – I agree with your comment the other day about the texture – I couldn’t quite get past that…
