Plate Me

August 7, 2010

I’m eating breakfast without my cronies today – guess everyone is too sleepy to come to breakfast!? You couldn’t PAY me to skip breakfast!!!

My company today is Jennifer of LJCFYI and Tricia of Cheeky Attitude. And they introduced me virtually to (Never Home) Maker – cute blog!

I started my day in a daze – too much food and wine – oof! Hoping to balance that out today with lots of fruits and vegetables :)

[HEY NYC: Anyone want to meet for a green juice and power walk around 5PM?]

I made some coffee in the room while I got dressed – I really like the Starbucks African blend that is often in hotels.

And arrived at breakfast. You can’t go wrong with lots and lots of choices.

IMG_9473 (640x427) (2)

Breakfast today was sponsored by Quaker…so I knew oats had to be involved

IMG_9475 (640x427) (2)

And there were many fun toppings [a preview of Quaker sponsorship of the Healthy Living Summit!!]

IMG_9474 (427x640)

Spotted: a new kind of muffin! I love muffins with crumbly tops

IMG_9476 (640x427) (2)

SCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLAIN YOGURT!! I really don’t like flavored yogurts – except a select few. And when I have yogurt for breakfast with toppings, I love the contrast of tart plain vs. topping. But you never find plain yogurt in public.

Thank you BlogHer, Dannon and Hilton for the plain yogurt!!

IMG_9480 (640x427)

I combined two foods normally served in bowls onto a plate –

IMG_9497 (640x427) (2)

Plain yogurt in the middle, oatmeal and berries on the side, topped with pecans and cinnamon.

IMG_9490 (640x427) (2)

Love all the berries!!!

IMG_9484 (640x427)

I took about 1/3 of this raisin bran muffin and crumbled it on top –

IMG_9489 (640x427) (2)

And I hear honey is good for hangovers!?

IMG_9491 (640x427) (2)

IMG_9493 (640x427) (2)

IMG_9494 (640x427) (2)

The finished plate – it was awesome!!

IMG_9495 (640x427) (2)

Plus more coffee

IMG_9488 (640x427) (2)

Going to get a bit of work done this morning on my laptop and then hit the sessions

[Still love typing with orange nails!!]

2 Jessica @ How Sweet It Is August 7, 2010 at 8:29 am

I love the muffin in the oatmeal! It’s my favorite oatmeal topper!

3 Freya @ Brit Chick Runs August 7, 2010 at 8:29 am

I love the idea of putting it all on a plate 😀 completly changes the meal!
NeverHomeMaker is a super blog – they have SO much good rcipes there!

4 Rose-Anne August 7, 2010 at 8:31 am

Aw, I wish I were in NYC for a walk + juice–that sounds like fun. If I left Texas now, I *think* I could make it in time!

Here’s hoping the honey did the trick :-) Happy Saturday, everyone!

5 Trish @IamSucceeding August 7, 2010 at 8:31 am

I did not really want to go to blog her but each post I am reading of your time is making think I might need to check out a blogger conference sometime soon!

6 Evan Thomas August 7, 2010 at 8:34 am

I don’t know if honey is good for hangovers, but when is it not good?

7 Chelsey August 7, 2010 at 8:35 am

I’m looking for a recipe you posted a while ago – it was a slow cooker recipe, kind of like a mexican stew with beans, tomatoes, avocado? I can’t find it!!!

8 Chelsey August 7, 2010 at 8:40 am

never mind! I found it! gotta love those tags on the side of your site!!!

9 Kath August 7, 2010 at 8:45 am

Oh good!!

10 Ella @ The Princess and the P August 7, 2010 at 8:39 am

That breakfast looks AMAZING – and so do your nails!! Do you remember the name of the color? Love love!

11 Kath August 7, 2010 at 8:46 am

I don’t! I didn’t even look. It was in a curved bottle.

12 Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) August 7, 2010 at 8:41 am

I noticed the polish too when you were pouring on the topping! So fun! Have a great day! Breakfast looks perfect!

13 Marie August 7, 2010 at 8:48 am

I love NeverHome Maker, I just “found” their website earlier this week, it’s great. Your breakfast plate looks awesome! Way to take advantage of a buffet. You’re making me want to paint my nails… and I hate painting my nails, haha :)

14 Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) August 7, 2010 at 8:52 am

What a fun breakfast!

And I agree. No money in the world could keep me from having breakfast. 😉

15 Rachel (Two Healthy Plates) August 7, 2010 at 8:53 am

What a fun plate of oatmeal!

16 Christie {Honoring Health} August 7, 2010 at 9:02 am

Superb use of the conference breakfast buffet!

17 Caitlyn @ A Spoonful of Life August 7, 2010 at 9:05 am

Oats on a plate (OOAP)…that’s a grand idea!

18 Kath August 7, 2010 at 9:27 am

19 Maria @ Kale and Cupcakes August 7, 2010 at 9:07 am

Looks like it was another fab night and morning in food blog land!

20 coco August 7, 2010 at 9:09 am

cute nail color and great breakfast choice! 😉

21 Kathleen August 7, 2010 at 9:19 am

That breakfast looks AMAZING especially all the fresh berries.

22 holly @ couchpotatoathlete August 7, 2010 at 9:23 am

What a beautiful breakfast! You always know how to make oatmeal wonderful!

Have a great day and if I were in NYC I’d want to meet up for juice/walk! Maybe Blogher should meet in MN next year :)

23 Meg August 7, 2010 at 9:24 am

Dannon plain yogurt is the best (in my opinion) besides Greek. I just love the flavor of it, and it pairs great with so many goodies! Those berries look amazing! Quaker certainly did a fantastic job – very KERF-y of them 😉

Enjoy your day and your orange nails! Wish I was in NYC so I could go on your 5pm adventure! Booo! Next time 😀

24 Whitney @ Whitinspired August 7, 2010 at 9:31 am

That breakfast looks divine. Love the orange nails :)

25 tanyasdaily August 7, 2010 at 9:32 am

nice breakfast and you didn’t have to cook it..that is the best part

26 Victoria August 7, 2010 at 9:42 am

If you’re around the Times Square area you should definitely go for your power walk around Bryant Park – it’s not too far away and it’s a really fun environment (right by the NY Public Library too, one of my favorite places ever!)

I wish I could meet! I was over in that area all day yesterday but I have to work today :( have fun though!

27 lynn (The Actors Diet) August 7, 2010 at 9:57 am

i’m a plain jane too when it comes to my yogurts. which is funny bc i used to be obsessed with the fruit on the bottom!!!

28 Callie August 7, 2010 at 9:57 am

That looks so good!
I’m used to seeing oats in bowls, but a plate seems to work just as well. :)

29 jac August 7, 2010 at 10:00 am

muffins! love the crumbles!!! hope you’re having lotsa fun!

30 emily August 7, 2010 at 10:03 am

Omg, green juice and a power walk would rock my world!

31 Laughter-Loving Stacy August 7, 2010 at 10:11 am

I know what you mean about breakfast. No way in hell will I ever skip breakfast, lol :)

32 Mary @ Bites and Bliss August 7, 2010 at 10:12 am

Muffin with crumbly tops are the best!! Hope honey works for your hangover :)

33 Diana @ frontyardfoodie August 7, 2010 at 10:17 am

Haha, I never thought I’d say this since my whole life I wasn’t a breakfast person but I started eating breakfast several months ago and now I couldn’t go without if I wanted to!

34 Faith @ lovelyascharged August 7, 2010 at 10:22 am

total second! Back when I was struggling through an eating disorder I prided myself on never touching breakfast…now, seriously, one of my first thoughts in the morning is “what do I get to eat!?!” I skipped it one day because I was in such a rush that I had to choose between food and not wearing pajamas to work…I was a miserable, moody, unfocused mess!

35 Nancy @ The Wife of a Dairyman August 7, 2010 at 10:24 am

I love the oatmeal mix you put together and to top it all with crumbled muffin and honey sounds great. I haven’t eaten breakfast yet here in CA but now I need to:) Hungry!

36 Chelsea (Chelsea's Chew and Run Fun) August 7, 2010 at 10:33 am

If you’re looking for great green juice/smoothie options in NYC, there’s a wonderful place called “Liquiteria” in the East Village (I think of E13th and 1st Ave) that has a plethora of vitamin-packed, organic blends.

Love your breakfast plate, it looks divine!

37 Run Sarah August 7, 2010 at 10:42 am

You always come up with the best selections at breakfast buffets – great idea with the oatmeal & yogurt combo!

38 Wei-Wei August 7, 2010 at 10:44 am

HAhaha I love how you had oatmeal on a plate! My mom once put oatmeal on a plate when I was in a hurry to go to school, it would have been too hot otherwise 😉

39 Marina August 7, 2010 at 10:47 am

Your breakfast combo looks so delicious! Honey for a hangover? I should try that 😀

40 [email protected] August 7, 2010 at 10:51 am

That looks so delicious! I love blackberries. Did you finish the rest of the muffin or chuck it?

41 Maya August 7, 2010 at 10:51 am

I love the variety of a good breakfast buffet that allows you so many options. I’m typing with gold nails and that’s pretty fun, too!

42 Jess August 7, 2010 at 10:52 am

I’m with you on the plain yogurt. Most flavored ones are usually too sweet for me. Funny too, ’cause I used to be all about the Light & Fit. Love the breakfast combo. Oats and yogurt is definitely on my weird-but-good list.

If you’re near midtown, Juice Generation on 9th and 45thish has great green juices.

43 Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter August 7, 2010 at 10:56 am

Haha that is the plate of a serious foodie!

44 [email protected] August 7, 2010 at 11:14 am

45 *Andrea* August 7, 2010 at 11:23 am

bfast is what gets me outta bed 😉 btw your hair looked gorgeous last night!

46 Sara @ August 7, 2010 at 11:27 am

YUM that breakfast looks so good! Hotel breakfasts are the best! :) Well, at least most of the time…haha!

I love writing/typing when I have painted fingernails…but then I get bored and pick off the paint. Whoops.

47 Liz @ Tip Top Shape August 7, 2010 at 11:29 am

That breakfast plate looks delicious!! I haven’t heard of honey helping hangovers but it would be nice if it does! lol

48 Camille August 7, 2010 at 11:44 am

Oh my goodness, what an amazing breakfast!
I love honey on oats :)

49 Heather August 7, 2010 at 11:47 am

wow that looks like a great breakfast! how fun!

50 Maggie (livingfoodjunkie) August 7, 2010 at 11:49 am

Oatmeal, yogurt, honey and berries…what more could a breakfast ask for! Delicious :)

51 Emilyeatsclean August 7, 2010 at 11:59 am

Mmm breakfast looks delic! Bowls are soo over-rated! 😉

52 Heather August 7, 2010 at 12:17 pm

Muffin tops are my favorite part – especially the crumbly ones.

Looks like a delicious breakfast – glad you could find some plain yogurt.

53 Simply Life August 7, 2010 at 12:32 pm

Oh that breakfast would definitely get me up at 3am if it was necessary! :)

54 Angela (The Lady Loves to Eat) August 7, 2010 at 12:53 pm

I agree with the plain yogurt! If there are going to be toppings on my yogurt anything but plain is just way too sweet!

55 Courtney (Delightful Devours) August 7, 2010 at 12:57 pm

Wow your breakfast looks amazing! I wish I made that this morning :)

56 Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat August 7, 2010 at 1:02 pm

That looks absolutely delicious! I love crumbly top muffins as well! :)

57 Lauren @ 40Apples August 7, 2010 at 1:09 pm

Well done on the buffet breakfast! Yum!! I love being excited about breakfast. It’s one of the best reasons to get up :)

Wish I could join you for that power walk & juice but I’ve gotta be in Brooklyn for the evening. Have fun!

58 Rachael August 7, 2010 at 1:15 pm

That is one of the finest buffet breakfast combinations I have seen to date. Love the honey drizzle on top!

59 kayla.eats.healthy August 7, 2010 at 1:31 pm

Your breakfast looks amazeballs! I would probably go nuts at that breakfast buffet just deciding what I want to eat!! 😉

60 Laura August 7, 2010 at 2:12 pm

WOW…that breakfast looks so flavoursome and splendid!!!! Bet the other guests were envious of your creative breakfast;-)
Love the nails too!! xx

61 Sarah K. @ The Pajama Chef August 7, 2010 at 2:18 pm

this might just have convinced me to try plain yogurt… :)

62 Heather (Heather's Dish) August 7, 2010 at 2:28 pm

i love that you even have a great bowl of oats on vacation too! so beautiful!

63 Meghan August 7, 2010 at 5:59 pm

Have you tried the pomegranate Chobani yogurt? It’s got a bit of sugar (19g), but it’s a non-fat one so that kind of balances it out. :)

64 Ash Bear August 7, 2010 at 6:03 pm

The breakfast plate looks delicious! I love how you took oatmeal and used a plate versus the expected normal route. I was SO excited when I found plain yogurt yesterday. I feel like flavored yogurts are just a cup of sugar.

65 Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin August 7, 2010 at 7:40 pm

Ooh that looks like such a yummy breakfast! I’ve never tried having yogurt with hot oatmeal!

66 elaine! August 7, 2010 at 8:36 pm

I think the best hangover “cure” is to drink a TON of water before you go to sleep, and maybe throw in some B-vitamins too. It worked when I turned 21 at least. 😀

67 Ashley M. [at] (never home)maker August 7, 2010 at 9:12 pm

Thanks for the shout, Kath! I’ve been enjoying your blog for a while now — just not a regular commenter :) Happy Saturday! Hope you’re having a blast!

68 christine louise August 7, 2010 at 10:05 pm

I love your orange fingernails!! My favorite part of your post. (: What is the color?

69 Hannah August 8, 2010 at 12:11 am

OMG, then I definitely need honey right now! Up until last night, I’d had two alcoholic drinks in this entire year… and last night was beer, wine, and shots. I feel very odd, and I want a crumbly muffin. 😛
