January 15, 2010

Oh boy. I did not think I was going to be able to get out of bed this morning! With only 6 hours of sleep my eyeballs were glued shut. And having beer in my system didn’t help But after a shower and some liquids, I feel much better. It’s gonna be a long day – and an even longer weekend because our flight to New York leaves at 6AM tomorrow, meaning we’ll have to get up at 3-something. Don’t know when I’ll be able to catch up on sleep!!

My wake-up breakfast was a smoothie – transportable cause I gotta leave in just a second (after eating the granola off the top :mgreen: ) and replenishing.

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • ~1/3 cup frozen fresh pineapple
  • 1 packet Amazing Meal Pom – Mango flavor
  • 1/4 cup raw rolled oats – for energy, fiber, stable blood sugar and fun!

To be honest, not the most delicious mix I have ever eaten.

That is TOTALLY E.T.’s head!!! Rotate your neck.

(And funny because someone said yesterday that my 7 looked like ET’s head and I laughed hysterically. I love E.T.)

Aw, I love ET too. I watched that movie a million times when I was a kid.

Happy Friday!

2 The Paris Food Blague January 15, 2010 at 6:33 am

oh feel better! That is ET’s head, yes! Does it feel gross drinking alien brain?

I hope to see you in New York. Chin up, rest up!

3 Jessica @ How Sweet It Is January 15, 2010 at 6:41 am

Hopefully you can sneak in a cat nap tonight Kath! :)

4 Freya @ January 15, 2010 at 6:44 am

errh ET creeps me out :s
smoothies are so hit and miss sometimes; I made one the other day and it was one of the most disgusting things I’d ever had, yet I’d changed one minor ingredient from the first time I made it, when it was delicious!! Weird :s
Maybe you could sleep on the plane tomorrow? Have a good day anyways :)

5 Chelsea (Chelsea's Chew and Run Fun) January 15, 2010 at 6:52 am

That is unmistakably E.T’s head. Hard to deny it! That is also an extremely energizing breakfast, though it may not have suited your taste buds fancy. Have a great Friday and a safe trip to NYC!

6 Hangry Pants January 15, 2010 at 7:09 am

E.T. is scary.

Happy Birthday Matt.

Have a safe trip. I am sad I won’t get to see you. :(

I love the new picture of you with the pink fleece that comes up in the right corner – you look adorable.

7 Penny (Blonde Bibliophile) January 15, 2010 at 7:10 am

Oh geez, I have sympathy for you. I HATE being sleep deprived. It is the worst feeling ever. Good luck!
I always cried like crazy when the awful goverment people took ET away. Than I came to a point where I wouldn’t watch the movie because of it. I haven’t seen it since. :-)

8 Angela (The Lady Loves to Eat) January 15, 2010 at 7:18 am

I hate ET! I feel you on the no sleeping it 4am here right now and i have to be at work in an hour :(

9 Jamie January 15, 2010 at 7:23 am

Kath- its so interesting seeing how you are handling being on the go so much more often than you are used to. You’re doing a great job!

10 Kath January 15, 2010 at 6:58 pm

11 Morgan @ Life After Bagels January 15, 2010 at 7:24 am

plan to sleep on the plane at least!

12 zestycook January 15, 2010 at 7:25 am

Hey Kath! Have a great trip to NYC.

13 The Healthy Hostess January 15, 2010 at 7:26 am

How do you eat smoothies in the freezing winter?! I have tried, but I just can’t do it. It leaves me chilled to the bone. They always look so good though.
I have my glucose test for the baby today so no sugar for me all day – which means I am craving sugar and your smoothie. At least this is just more proof that a strict diet does not work – not allowing yourself to have something always makes you want it more. I can tough it out for a day though – especially for medical/baby reasons!

14 Kath January 15, 2010 at 6:58 pm

I blast my space heater!!

15 Marisa (Loser for Life) January 15, 2010 at 7:27 am

Aaawwww, I love ET. Embarassed to say that I actually had an E.T. doll that had a heart that lit up. Yes, I was THAT dorky!

Enjoy your day, Kath! Hope the coffee kicks in for ya!

16 Kath January 15, 2010 at 6:58 pm

I had the doll too!!

17 klm January 15, 2010 at 7:40 am

i heart ET too!! I’m so glad you guys had fun at dinner last night + sooooo glad I didn’t go now [see b+b]

18 Rachel January 15, 2010 at 7:52 am

I’m running on only about 6 hours of sleep, too, and I’m so tired! It’s amazing how just a few more hours of sleep can change your entire outlook on or feeling about the day.

19 Jenna January 15, 2010 at 7:54 am

Have a great day at work! Try to get some sleep later:)

20 Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) January 15, 2010 at 7:57 am

I see ET! 😀

21 amanda January 15, 2010 at 8:00 am

Uggh I hate those mornings and don’t miss them at all. Your smoothie did look yummy tho

22 Simply Life January 15, 2010 at 8:07 am

sounds like a great combo with the pineapple!

23 Nekeisha January 15, 2010 at 8:09 am

My sister won an E.T Doll from Brownies when we were kids, I had wanted it. One of my uncles also had one the finger used light up when it said E.T go home (can’t remember the exact words).

I also liked ALF and there was a raffle for a stuffed one when I was in elementary school, when the little girl who won got it everyone rushed to touch it.

The good ole days

24 Paige(Running Around Normal) January 15, 2010 at 8:11 am

What a busy weekend!
Hahah it really does look like ET’s head. Have a great day, today!

25 megan January 15, 2010 at 8:16 am

smoothies never seem to fill me up for very long. maybe i’m not putting the right things in them? I should try oats, but I’m nervous!

26 Katharine January 15, 2010 at 8:23 am

Yay for Friday! Looks like you’ll need to catch some shut eye on the plane! Especially since you’re heading to the city that never sleeps. 😉

27 Naomi(onefitfoodie) January 15, 2010 at 8:34 am

have another fun day! I love seeing everything you are getting to do with your internship!! :)

28 Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg January 15, 2010 at 8:37 am

lol…ET scared the CRAP out of me when I was a little, and I’ve never watched it again!

Hope you have a great day, despite feeling a little “less than stellar” :-)

29 Julie @savvyeats January 15, 2010 at 8:40 am

Totally ET’s head!

Sleep on the plane!

30 Cait (Cait's Plate) January 15, 2010 at 8:48 am

HAHA! I totally see ET’s head!!

I hear ya on not being able to get out of bed. I’ve actually felt that way this whole week. It has NOT been easy!

Have a safe trip!

PS – There were “26” comments when I added mine!! It’s good luck!

31 Heather @ The Joyful Kitchen January 15, 2010 at 8:52 am

haha! totally looks like ET’s head! i remember watching ET in spanish when I was in middle school…”ET telefono mi casa!” instead of “ET phone home!” :)

32 Casey (@Spicy&Sweet) January 15, 2010 at 8:56 am

Only six hours of sleep is rough—I totally agree. I need at LEAST 7! Birthdays are worth it though. :)

Happy weekend Kath! :)

33 Jayce January 15, 2010 at 9:11 am

Have fun in NY! :)

34 Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope January 15, 2010 at 9:23 am

That smoothie sounds PERFECT Kath! Enjoy your day!

35 Jil January 15, 2010 at 9:24 am

haha I totally see the E.T. He scared the crap out of me as a kid. I don’t personally remember it — perhaps blocking out a traumatizing experience, but my mom tells me that he terrified me. I have come to love him though. haha Have so much fun in NY!

36 Sarah R January 15, 2010 at 9:24 am

Not going to lie–ET always freaked me out. Happy Friday!!!

37 Shannon (The Daily Balance) January 15, 2010 at 9:29 am

ET is the cutest! i loved that movie!!! The Mister HAS NEVER SEEN IT! He always turns me down every time I try and get him to — i must do something about that!

38 K January 15, 2010 at 9:39 am

I had to force myself out of bed this morning as well! Hahah – I see ETs head but I haven’t seen that movie. I know I’m missing out on a classic!

39 katherine January 15, 2010 at 9:44 am

I agree, definitely ETs head. Love it!

Have a great Friday!

40 Dina January 15, 2010 at 9:45 am

hi kath. i bragged to my trainer at the gym this morning about your overnight oats and am now eating some sort of sunflower seed, dried coconut, banana, yogurt, pumpkin butter and kashi 7 grains creation that i would have never dreamed off had it not been for this blog!! enjoy your trip to the city: )

41 Kath January 15, 2010 at 6:59 pm

42 Anne Marie@New Weigh of Life January 15, 2010 at 9:51 am

It definitely does look like ET’s head! That’s hysterical!

43 skinnyrunner January 15, 2010 at 9:52 am

have a good friday! i love your coffee creatures.

44 Jess. January 15, 2010 at 10:01 am

Matt’s birthday dinner looked delicious and perfect for him!

Just added ET to my netflix que :)

45 ellen eats beets January 15, 2010 at 10:01 am

LOVE ET! What a bossy character. And you are making me crave a smoothie girl!

46 Emily Eats and Exercises January 15, 2010 at 10:08 am

I was terrified of ET when I was little. I had this blanket on my bed with a bear on it and for some reason I thought if I touched the bear in my sleep I would turn into ET. I spent a few sleepless nights lying cold outside my covers being afraid to roll over. Weird, I know.
Good luck with your tired day.

47 Allison K January 15, 2010 at 10:19 am

Does that amazing meal have the chalky taste of other protein powders?

48 Kath January 15, 2010 at 6:59 pm

Just a little. I usually use 1/2 a packet which is better than a whole.

49 Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) January 15, 2010 at 10:59 am

I love that you still added the granola on a breakfast-to-go. I have a feeling I’ll be having many breakfastes on the go starting Tuesday, so I’m keeping the smoothies in mind. 😉

Hope you can catch up on some mucho needed sleep!!

50 Megan January 15, 2010 at 11:13 am

Whoa!! It does look EXACTLY like ET!

51 Sarah January 15, 2010 at 11:16 am

Totally looks like ET! Hopefully you can grab some sleep on the flight or get to bed super early tonight. Good luck!

52 Lauren @ Eater not a runner January 15, 2010 at 11:23 am

Aw hope you get to catch up on sleep at some point!

53 Meghan@traveleatlove January 15, 2010 at 11:30 am

ET, so sad!! I am envious of your 6 hours a sleep! I average less than that most nights, definitely not a good thing!

54 Katie January 15, 2010 at 12:01 pm

I never like smoothies with pineapple in them for some reason. I love pineapples though, weird, right?

55 Jessica @ The Process of Healing January 15, 2010 at 12:10 pm

At least you got something green into you first thing!!!
And I love how you always see the coolest pictures in your foods and drinks!

56 Cole January 15, 2010 at 12:42 pm

Sometimes smoothies hit me weird which is odd, because I usually love ’em

57 lynn (The Actors Diet) January 15, 2010 at 12:47 pm

i’ve got such a special place in my heart for e.t. – it was the first film i ever saw in the theater.

58 michelle January 15, 2010 at 12:49 pm

GAH! I hate ET! He scares me! **running away from this post like I ran from the theater with I was a kid**

59 Jacquie January 15, 2010 at 2:14 pm

I agree with Michelle. Was anyone else petrified of E.T? When I was younger, that movie scared the sh*t out of me and when he screamed meeting Eliot, I screamed too!

60 Melissa January 15, 2010 at 9:08 pm

I was looking at your oats on top of your shake and couldn’t see E.T. and was turning my head just to move the mouse a bit and realize you were talking about your coffee… wow. Thank goodness it’s a 3 day weekend.. I need to rest this frazzled brain of mine! :)

Enjoy the trip!

61 Danielle January 15, 2010 at 9:28 pm

Oh yea! Your 7 totally does look like E.T.!

62 Cynthia (It All Changes) January 15, 2010 at 10:38 pm

Smoothies are great for a quick breakfast. Getting breakfast in even if you do sleep in a bit is key.
