Perfect Pair + Pear

October 29, 2009

I slept well last night!! My gift from Matt was this gorgeous paisley duvet cover from Crate + Barrel. I love all things paisley and green (hence our wedding theme)! He surprised me with it on the bed when I came up last night. Quite a surprise!

IMG_7086 (640x427)

It’s so silky soft

IMG_7083 (640x427)

It’s National Oatmeal Day!

Did you know today’s the day!?!?! And being 10/29, it’s quite appropriate that the 9 is an upside-down 6 :)

I decided when I didn’t eat my pear yesterday that it would be fun to give pear oatmeal a try again. I haven’t had it in ages. Generally banana is the king of oat fruits, and really nothing compares…compears….but I always enjoy a little change….for a day.

IMG_7074 (640x427)

  • 1/3 cup oats, milk, water
  • 1/2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp raisins
  • 1 small bosc pear (which was sadly a bit underripe)
  • Nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla
  • Bourbon pecans from Fresh Market
  • Costco PB

I put the pear in in the beginning and it softened some, but it was still pretty crunchy in the oats. However, I enjoyed the crunch!

IMG_7078 (640x427)

My coffee loves me again!!!

Polly sent me these darling socks for my bday!! They are the softest socks I have ever felt and have fun grippies on the bottom. Thanks Pols!!

And while I’m showing off my perfect pair… my new slippers from Target are totally awesome!!

Gorgeous duvet cover! I love paisley – and I especially love that green. It’ll be a great pick me up color for the cold and dreary winter months ahead!

I love duvet covers…you can mix up your bed without too much work…unless you have to crawl inside the cover to get the comforter inside! (Maybe that’s just me?)

I’ve almost bought those slippers…twice! I really just need to bite the bullet before my toes start to freeze.

I love that duvet. I used to work at Bed Bath and Beyond and loved to wander around the bedding section looking at the duvets and bed sets imagining what I wanted on my bed. We might need a new bed set soon so I want to do that again.

I love pear in my oatmeal. I soften it in the microwave with some cinnamon before adding it to my oatmeal. Just firm enough but nice and melty almost.

For using pears/apples in my oatmeal, I always chop them and microwave them for a minute – minute and a half before adding them so they’re a bit softer.

Where to begin? I love the new duvet cover and am totally jealous of your spotless, clutter-free room!

Pear oatmeal is one of my favorites, though I do think a ripe pear makes all the difference. I do pear, dried cranberries, pecans and a little maple syrup.

Thought you might be interested in this – I make crockpot yogurt. I can make about 6 ounces for 11 cents and I use expensive milk. You can find the recipe at the crockpotting for a year blog. If you filter it through a coffee filter, it gets thick like Greek yogurt!

Reply

63 Chris October 29, 2009 at 12:20 pm

PS I make about 1/2 gallon of yogurt at a time. The price was just figured for 6 ounces in my other post, because that’s usually the size it comes in at the store.

I was obsessed with Pippi Longstocking! I was Pippi for Halloween one year, and I can remember bringing my boombox down to the edge of the driveway, blasting the Pippi theme song, and dancing around in my red pigtail wig and Pippi costume and waving to people as they drove by. I was a special child. :) LOL.

I love pears and can’t wait to try a recipe I saw for baked pears with a walnut-blueberry filling…that sounds like your kind of food, doesn’t it? With a scoop of ice cream alongside–I can’t wait!

I’m sad I can’t celebrate National Oatmeal Day the right way. I’m not eating grains this week in honor of Celiac Awareness Month and for my niece, who cannot eat gluten or corn. I’ve been blogging about it every night, which is a lot more work than I ever realized! Daily food bloggers, I have a newfound respect for what you do.
