Sorry weathermen, you got it wrong!!
The whole afternoon was nice and sunny! I ended up meeting Faith halfway to her house and we walked for a good hour. Then we came back to the couch for more SYTYCD!
At 6, we invited two new friends over for dinner. Jessica and Alex are from Pennsylvania and were here visiting for the weekend and they invited us on hike today. Our hike got rained out, so we decided to do drinks + pizza at our place instead.
Matt loves any chance he can get to share beer with new friends
We walked to Fry’s Spring Pizza for 2 pies at 6 to have along with a big salad made from greens from our garden
Baby chard, collards and mustard greens dressed in olive oil and vinegar plus salt and almonds
Our pizzas were excellent – one Jalapeno Pepperoni and one Wild Mushroom
I don’t normally do unknown meats in restaurants, but tonight I rolled with it. The peps looked good, and we all can’t be perfect all the time.
Garlic Cheddar also made an appearance. I had a slice of each pizza and a slice of CG
Matt poured some Double IPA to start
And we tasted Sheila’s gift – the Stone Smoked Porter for round II. YUM!!
For dessert I pulled out these AMAZING brittles I’ve been tasting for an OpenSky debut. They are so delicious – like toffee meets honeycomb – and the different nut combos are wonderful. Tonight we had pistachio and almond!
We had so much fun tonight. I wish every night could be a party!
Matt’s headed to bed soon, and well, I am too. Tomorrow starts a hearty week II!

I don’t even eat much meat but that pepperoni looks AMAZING!
such a great idea to sub for a rained out hike!
Hope you two have a great start to your week!
pizza looks amazing…sometimes nothing beats that cheesy goodness. i love dinner parties…i am having a few friends over tomorrow night and I can’t wait!
Sometimes, nothing is better than hot takeout pizza! Just had some last night and realized that I need to get that more often.
LOL we had Fabio’s pizza last night and they have the same boxes!
the wild mushroom pizza looks real good. in fact, both those take out pizzas look good!
That mushroom pizza looks amazing as does the brittle can’t wait for it on open sky.
like toffee meets honeycomb = like I want to meet that!!
I love toffees, brittles, barks, that whole genre of desserts…yep. My thing, for sure.
A rained out hike replaced with great looking pizza, beer, time with new friends…sounds like a good trade off to me
That pizza looks amazing. I’ve become a pizza snob; unless it’s a homemade or gourmet quality, I will pass. I’ve been spoiled by my mom’s great pizza crust mix and toppings.
how crazy unpredictable has the weather been lately? Very strange.
love pizza Sundays, especially paired with those dark, intense beers – IPAs and Porters are no joke – how delicious!
If you want to try a new recipe, I’d suggest this stuffed turkey burger from Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition. They premiere a new food each episode, and you can catch it Monday nights on ABC at 10pm/9c.
Mushroom pizza is the best! Especially wild mushrooms! Wow that must have been awesome!
Looks like some fancy pizza! Oh btw if you have a surplus of cheddar garlic bread you could always send it to me (just kidding)
WOW I’ve never seen a brittle with any nut other than peanuts… that’s such a good idea though! I bet they were great. And the garlic cheddar looks awesome, I wish there was a GH closer to my house
Stone Brewery is amazing–my fiance is in love with their Arrogant Bastard Ale–definitely one to try!
That jalapeno pepperoni pizza looks amazing!!
Oh my gosh, I was just on youtube watching a cranberries video. And an advertisment for Open Sky just came up. I was like “I recognize her!” Then I realized it was you. Congrats, Kath Younger, Food Blogger, and Opensky Curator.
it’s been so long since i’ve had a takeout pizza with friends! looks like so much fun.
The pizza looks delicious, and I’m so glad that the garlic cheddar bread made an appearance! I was worried when it was left behind at the bakery yesterday – it looked so tasty.
Where di you guys get Magic Hap cups? I’m digging their Wacko right now!
I think from Larbs in Boston
I totally went to high school with Alex in Spring Grove,PA. HAHA such a small world. Pizza sounds great. Loving your blog from the west coast!
OH wow – love it when that happens!!
I LOVE your comment about unknown meats. It made me chuckle.
What a fun day off! Y’all deserved it!
Oh gosh that pizza! How does it compare to Matt’s crust though?! I love beer – but it makes me so bloated and uncomfortable
Not that that always deters me though…
Those pizzas look so good!
I’m glad the weather cooperated — I took a long walk outside today too. It was so nice!
My dad and I just shared the worst pizza I’ve ever had – greasy, soggy, all cheese… I want yours!
Why does your food always look so tasty? That brittle looks soooooo delicious! Totally my kind of dessert.
I don’t even like pepperoni and I’m digging that pizza! Maybe it’s the spicy jalapenos that are enticing me
I bought beer peanut brittle in San Fran in May for my beer boy. I’m not usually a fan of brittle, but it was delicous! That could be Matt’s next project (since it appears he has so much free time on his hands).
That pizza looks good! Almost homemeade
Pizza and beer on a hot day is perfect.
I was just wondering Kath about how you said you at the unknown pepperoni because you can’t be perfect all the time. Is that how some of your rules about eating come about? From perfectionism? I’m not asking as a criticism of course, I’ve been reading your blog for years and get joy from your beautiful pictures and your life sharing.
I am just interested in how personal ethics and perfectionist streaks combine to shape ideas about eating and I know you are open in talking about these things. Thanks:)
I’m not quite sure what you mean… no one is perfect, including me. I eat by “guidelines” not rules, which are meant to be broken! I definitely follow the 80/20 rule when it comes to eating guidelines, but the ethics of animals is something I take more seriously than say, cake for breakfast.
Thank you for your reply Kath.
Kath, I saw your face in an OpenSky advertisement today! It was quite exciting
i clicked on the “alex” link…and it doesn’t seem to be the person in the picture…different Alex? a little confused….!
Sorry! That was an auto link typo!
Those pizzas look amazing—
I loved this comment, Kath! : “I don’t normally do unknown meats in restaurants, but tonight I rolled with it. The peps looked good, and we all can’t be perfect all the time.” Such a great attitude about food!
Wow I don’t eat pork but that pepperoni pizza looks exceptionally delicious- I would have rolled with it too! I’m glad you were able to have a fun day off
Gosh does that pizza look phenomenal!!! Glad you had a nice day off!
Mmm that brittle looks great! Coming to your Opensky soon? ~.^
I love Stone beer. so good!
Looks like fun! Beer, pizza, GH bread, salad from your own garden, brittle with old and new friends – definitely the type of evening to make you wish that every night was a party. BTW I love your table, where did you get it?
It was here when we moved in!
How lucky are you that they left it for you, it looks perfect for your porch. Our English tudor style house was built in 1930 and we had a hard time finding outdoor furniture that we like that didn’t cost a fortune.
BTW you should have seen how excited my kids got when we pulled up to the farmers market today and they spotted the Great Harvest tent. The Garlic Cheddar was extra tasty today.
Yay!!
I appreciated the Dogfish beer goblet shown in one of your photos because we have the very same ones. I am from a combination of Annapolis/Lewes/Rehoboth, so Dogfish is very close to my heart. We once replicated the 60 Minute IPA at a brew-your-own beer place in Chicago — and it was awesome!
Wow that pizza looks amazing,
Jealous your weathe r man is wrong. Ours.was sadly right. It has been cold and rainy all weekend. Like.. you need to go outside in a jacket. Excuse me?! It is JUNE 13. There should be NO need for a jacket@!
I love this: “we can’t all be perfect all the time.” Looks like you guys had a great night!
well, I dont think anyone can be perfect any time! What is perfect anyway? But i know what she means… I try not to eat fast food but sometimes its just unavoidable you know? Say on a road trip where your fellow car-mates won’t stop anywhere else. Boo!
Your whole evening, company, food, and atmosphere all looked wonderful! Glad you and Matt could enjoy your time off, and I hope that you are both well-rested and ready to tackle your second week!!
Those pizzas look amazing! I think we all need a pizza weekend night now and then. Sounds like a such a fun dinner!
I’m going come hang out with you
That looks like fun and yummy!
I love how you can just “roll with it”
I’m the same way. Not much a fan of unknown meats, but once in a while it just fits the bill. I would have went for the pepperoni on the pizza as well. Looks delish!
Your pizzas look so much better than the take out pizza I’m used to! Especially that wild mushroom one – yum!
You are a girl after my own HGTV heart.
Pizza and beer, all night every night
That pizza looks great! I love mushrooms on pizza! Have a great week!
I would love to have dinner with you and Matt someday, heck.. even breakfast or lunch! hehe..
Those pepperoni’s are huge! The pizza looks delicious.
oh pizza for dinner sounds super YUMM!
We have pizza at least once a week in our household. We love it!

That pizza look amazing… I’m very jealous!
I think it was you that inspired me to start eating greens almost au natural. I’ve always been a big fan of the huge salad, with tons of ingredients. Turns out they’re just as enjoyable with just greens a little topper!
