Other than the fact that the alarm went off at 5:45a, it’s been a lovely morning!!!
And this jasmine warms my heart every time I look at it! Can’t believe we GREW it!
As we pack up for our trip and prepare for our open house today, Matt’s in charge of the whole kitchen and I’m in charge of the rest of the house.
He made oatmeal with a Great Harvest Oatmeal Mix that he brought home and it was AWESOME!
It has cranberries, almonds and milk powder in it already so you just add water and slow cook (a la Kodiak Cakes). I’m not sure if there was any added sweetener because I didn’t see any info, but it may have that too. It was soooooo creamy!!!! He just added water and half a banana and it was the best oat texture I’ve had in MONTHS!
Topped with some roasted almonds, Hemp Plus and a big blob of Naturally Nutty Vanilla Almond Butter! Mmmmmm!
Cuppa 100% caf so I had 3/4 a cup. Yesterday I was sweating all morning from a caffeine high. I’m so sensitive in the liver and sometimes it’s annoying!
Karen’s coming at 8 to pick us up and we’ve got a 5 hour drive ahead. I hear the weather is going to be bad too
Cold and rainy. Hopefully we can still find good food and explore the town.
See ya’ll this afternoon!

The jasmine is gorgeous! I have no green thumb whatsoever, but would love to have something like that in my yard too.
Your oats look delish! Hope the open house goes well today!
Beuaitful jasmine! I love home grown plants like that – I can’t garden to save my life, but my step dad does loads of it
5hr journey…road trips are fun! Have a good day!
Have a safe drive! Hopefully the weather will pass quickly.
I bet your yard smells incredible with all that jasmine!
Have a great day!!
Listen to some good music and get a nap in the car…and good luck with the location search!
Oh that oatmeal does look great!
Have a safe drive and a great day!
What a great breakfast. 5 hour drive, oh Kath I hope your life slows down a bit soon, so you can rest.
That jasmine is so beautiful!
I wish I had a backyard here in Lisbon. Oh well, I do love apartments too :p
Have a safe trip Kath!
That mix sounds good, but I”m always a bit sad when oatmeal comes with milk powder mixed in. No good for us lactose intolerant folkies! Hope the drive goes well
Good luck with the drive! At least your stomach will be nice and happy throughout your car time! Those oats (as always) look delicious.
I love that Matt knows what to do in the kitchen. My husband has no idea.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard of an oatmeal mix! It would be cool to customize something like that. How is your leg doing? Is the injury all better?
It’s doing much better – thanks for asking! I’m going running tomorrow and will see.
Have a safe drive!
That’s really cool that you grew the jasmine all by yourselves – I’m working on a garden with my Mom when I get back from Greece and I can’t wait to try to grow a ton of different things! I told her to plant lots and lots of basil while I’m gone.
What made you want to grow the jasmine in the first place?
I love the smell of Jasmine, enjoy the road trip
That mix looks awesome!
Everytime you have something from Great Harvest it looks delicious! I am green with envy that I don’t have one around here. I am from New York. Enjoy!!!
Hope the open house is a good one for you two! The oat concoction sounds and looks great! Happy Sunday Funday!
Aw, the jasmine is beautiful! The oats look like a tasty way to start the day! I had my first bowl of steel cut oats today and I am a fan…who knew? Have a safe trip and I hope it is successful! Good luck!
We’re at my parent’s house in Louisiana right now, and they have SO much jasmine in their backyard– I LOVE it at night when it’s super fragrant!!!
Have a great time!!!
Jasmine always reminds me of when I was a kid. We had it all over our backyard and it would smell so good!
Looks delicious! And how NICE it must be to be able to eat outside so often… I wish!
You torture me with all the great harvest goodies! How fun that they have oatmeal now too
I think I mentioned this before but when I lived in Reno theyhad 2 locations so I was spoiled. Now I live in Ventura, California and 0 locations
have a safe drive!
That jasmine is GORGEOUS! I bet it smells amazing too!
I know you’ve mentioned this before, but what web service do you use for your blog? Was it blue host? I’d like to create my own website, being that I’m an independent yoga teacher, and include a blog, schedule, about me, etc. on it and was wondering what service you would recommend for this? I am on a tight budget, but I’d like the site to relfect well on myself as a yoga teacher.
Heather,
Definitely do not go with Blue Host. They shut down my blog last year! I have Dreamhost now and am very happy.
That oatmeal mix sounds GOOD!!! I wish you could get it at other Great Harvests! Or can you?
Have nice trip! Hopefully the weathermen are wrong.
Drive safe!
Your jasmine looks absolutely gorgeous!
If you’re looking for fun food suggestions in Cville, here are a few: La Taza, The Local, Mas[all 3 in the Belmont area], Mono Loco, Downtown Thai, South Street [all 3 on/near the Downtown Mall], or Cafe Europa, Lemongrass, & Michael’s Bistro [all 3 on The Corner]. Mono Loco is my FAV place in Cville for dinner… and if you’re ever in Cville around breakfast/brunchtime, you HAVE to eat at Blue Grass Grill, near the Downtown Mall. Their biscuits & granola are the best in Cville, hands down. Have fun! The weather here so far is sunny and comfortable… so hopefully it’ll stay that way for your visit!
Thanks Jenn. We’ve eaten at Blue Grass before – and I took down your recs!
That jasmine smells SO good- I bet its just heavenly to sit out there. Safe travel and bes tof luck with the open house!!
Hi Kath,
I have a question for you about caffeine: I have always said I’m super sensitive to caffeine b/c when I have coffee (hot or iced), I have to go #2. It jumpstarts my system immediately!!! Decaf coffee also does it, but not as intensely. I thought it could be the warm liquid, but iced drinks do it too. You mentioned something about your liver, so I was wondering if you learned anything in school about caffeine and why it would affect me like it does. Sorry, it’s kinda of funny thing too talk about. Just thought I’d throw it out there! =]
I don’t think it has to do with your liver. Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant and I think going #2 just is a result of that. I have the same effect, but other hot bevs (and other caf bevs) don’t have the same effect.
You should make jasmine rice! Yum!
That jasmine looks gorgeous!
I’ve never had the GH oatmeal mix. Good to know it’s a winner:)
Awww, that jasmine looks amazing! I wish I had some of that in my yard!
Those oats sound quite delicious too
i’m going to my first great harvest next week – will look for that oatmeal – yum!!!
The smell of jasmine absolutely relaxes me. It looks like you have taken optimal care of your plant
Kath! A question for you that I’m sure you can answer,
Every time I make my beloved kale chips, there are soggy ones. WHY? I have tried everything. I always dry the leaves thoroughly, s, p, & evoo, and usually give em 2 minutes under the broiler at the end. I put the in at 375 until just browning, usually 10-12 minutes. Do yours do this as well, or is there something you have found that controls it?
Ridiculous question perhaps, but there it is
I would just give them 1-2 minutes more!? I’m not quite sure. If the edges are browning they should be crispY?
Safe travels! Hope the weather clears for you!
Those oats look so creamy. They sound delish!
Jenn
I love all the nut butters you use and have ordered from most of brands you use. However I tried something today I wanted to share. I ground a container of almond butter at our local food co-op yesterday and today I took it, along with the seeds from one vanilla bean, a couple of tablespoons of almond oil, some honey, some flax seeds and some dried bing cherries and whirled it all in my food processor. I must say it is pretty good!!
Sounds amazing!
lovely jasmine!
I hope you had a safe drive and are enjoying yourself!
I love the jasmine and have been wanting some for my yard so badly! I have this tall bird house that it would look just perfect climbing up. Hope you guys had a safe trip today!
Have a nice trip, Kath! Also, where did you get that lovely bowl and coffee mug? I love your dishware!
