Smells SO INCREDIBLE!
The cologne I put on at Banana Republic yesterday is still going strong. I’ve been snuggling up to my wrist since I left the store! Unfortunately I don’t remember which kind it was. I think Cordovan? Must buy this for my husband!
Smoothie in a Bowl -
My smoothies are all so different. Some are liquidy and sloshy, others are more like pudding. This guys was thick, gritty and too sweet! But I still slurped him down. Also, to make smoothies more winter-friendly, leaving out the frozen goods was fun. I just used fresh foods plus milk and it was closer to room temp and didn’t leave me freezing! But maybe the missing ice was why it was too sweet?
The Mix
- 1 small banana
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tbsp water (an effort to dilute the sweetness a bit)
- 1/4 cup raw rolled oats
- 2 tbsp Vega Tropical Mix N Go from the HLS swag bag
- Small blob of Madison‘s pecan – walnut butter
- Granola on top
- Tropical Traditions Peanut Coconut Butter drizzle, which does not magic shell nearly as well as Artisana’s
Coffee, coffee, buzz buzz buzz
I’ve got multiple things on my list today and must be efficient to get them all done! We’re leaving first thing in the morning tomorrow for a 4-day trip, so that means packing is required as well.
Almost the weekend!

When I use fresh bananas in smoothies the flavor and sweetness is way more pronounced, so that’s probably why yours was so sweet.
Have never smelled that cologne, but I usually am a big fan of their scents.
i dont know if i would enjoy a SIAB… but I have really gotten into yogurt w/ mashed up banana layered w/ apples for crunch almonds & raisins.. Only probably is that it only hold me over for about 3 hours.. idk what else i could throw in for more staying power
Perhaps some complex carbohydrates? Oats or something similar for a longer glycemic index. Or more yogurt or more fat!
Is that a men’s cologne?
Yes, that’s why I said I should buy it for my husband
I haven’t tried Banana Republic’s fragrances but I’ll check em out next time I’m there. I love your polka dot spoon!
I almost always leave out the ice cubes anymore! If I add enough fruit/veg to make it thick, I don’t need the ice, plus they still stay nice n thick..Yours always look so yummy though too!
Happy Thursday,
Cathy “B. @ Brightbakes
P.s. I put some homemade chunky applesauce on my oats this morning……*swoon*
I love Banana scents– and I love their colognes even more than their perfumes! I think they’re kind of unisex!
I love BR cologne! Mmmm so awesome that it stayed on you overnight!
definitely true about fresh bananas versus frozen–i can totally taste a difference in sweetness.
Kath,
I’m touring Davidson today and I just wanted to let you and Matt know!
OH fun!!!! let me know what you think!
The small campus is just like my the college in my hometown, Centre College! I really liked the students and their academic motivation. My family stayed in the guest house, which was super cute! To top off the experience, the fall weather was perfect on Thursday.
A handwritten letter was even mailed to my house the same day of my visit.
Davidson is obviously an excellent choice. For me, the small size is the biggest con.
P.S. The dining houses!
Were you a part of one?
Glad you liked it! It didn’t feel NEARLY as small as it technically is. I was in Warner Hall but also Connor my freshman year. The best part of Davidson for me was the academics – the profs are outstanding and I still long to go back and sit through some of the great discussions we had in classes.
I love the lotion at Williams Sonoma that smells like pumpkin spice. I sniff my hands all day after I have walked through there and played with the samples. Good luck getting ready for the weekend!
Yummy! I’m going to have to copy this one….
I’m leaving for a trip this weekend as well! I’m counting down the hours…minutes…well seconds until I get to leave for the weekend.
I only use ice in smoothies if it’s really cold out, and where we live (western MA), that doesn’t happen too often.
Could the sweetness have been from the tropical Vega? Just the name sounds like it could be a bit sweet…
I have yet to try SIAB — I just don’t really like chunks of stuff in my smoothies — I want them SMOOTH
Jason and I are taking a long weekend trip in 5 weeks. I can’t wait!
I have to admit, although your smoothie sounds delicious, it just got too cold for them. Hot breakfasts are now in season
Haha! You made me laugh about your wrist!
Whoo hooo for almost the weekend!!!
My husband loves Banana Republic Cologne! Smells so good!
Have a great day!
i love smoothies but I hate being cold so I opt to not make them often. I am going to try one without any ice and see what happens.
mmm pecan walnut butter sounds so good right now
You travel often, do you have any packing tips to share?? I don’t travel too often, but when I do I am always so nervous I’ll forget something. It taked me hours to pack for a simple trip!
Oh gosh, I am horrible at packing! I always want more choices and pack too much. Esp. shoes!
Ohh never smelled that cologne…but now it makes me want to go find it! haha I’m sad that it’s really too cold for smoothies here now…unless it’s a day when I can enjoy them under the covers. haha
I love trying perfumes out but the strong ones almost always give me a headache!
You’d be surprised how hard it is for me to find mild-scented teen perfume!
I need to try a smoothie in a bowl – they look so refreshing! I hate when I spray a perfume or cologne at a store and forget to write down the name. I tend to do that a lot!
Smoothie looks yum! Check out my BLOG for HEALTHY HAIR TIPS!
Cutest spoon ever! I want that spoon.
That smoothie looks absolutely delicious! We’re headed for a 16 hour road trip to Florida ourselves! Be safe on your trip!
I have never made a smoothie without frozen fruit of some sort – love the idea of a warmer smoothie for the winter months.
Good luck with your day!
Love BR! Sounds like a busy weekend coming up, good luck packing!
I love finding a really great perfume at a store adn then I’m sniffing myself all day. lol The last one that did that for me was Lancome Magnifique. That one smells so good!
And maybe all the “tropical” stuff in your smoothie made it too sweet?
mmmmmm, banana republic has such great scents!
I love when you randomly spray a scent on in stores and then smell it the rest of the day
Might have been the tropical vega? I found it to taste really sweet! I just made curried millet last night and it was delish! Just love the texture of millet. If you want the smoothie slightly colder – like fridge cold – not freezer cold – freeze your bananas!
It works great and won’t give you a brain freeze.
I wear CLASSIC from BR and I love it- so clean smelling!
I live in Spartanburg and am running a 5K this Saturday. You guys should run it too! Its the iRecyle 5K and half marathon!
OH I’ll research it!
Oooh, a long weekend away, that’ll be fun. Have a fab time!
Do you think the lack of “magic shellness” was caused by the warmer bowl temperature? Or have you noticed it with previous bowls with that brand?
Also, Kath’s readers – if you’ve made your own coconut butter, have you found that the homemade kind has the magic shell quality?
Yes, that could have definitely been it. Or the peanut butter doesn’t harden as much.
I’d be too cold slurping a smoothie right now! Even without the ice – brr! It might have something to do with the fact that I’m ALWAYS freezing.
Perfumes/ cologne always give me headaches so I never try any of them at stores
wish my hubby would wear cologne. he can’t stand it when i wear perfume – such a sensitive nose!
Love smoothies in a bowl! I have a thing for drinking/eating thick drinks with large spoons. Love, love.
Katy! I found a new thing to put on oatmeal or toast. Trader hors now makes a pumpkin butter. Kinda like Apple butter. I picked it up and when I was checking out the cashier said its amazing.
I meant trader joes but my phone auto corrected.
Smoothies can be tricky..sometimes I’ve had to add so much to make it not taste like ice water and other times it’s so sweet it’s like I poured a gallon of juice in it or something. Oh well, they always turn out yummy in the end!
I have moved away from SIAB’s in the morning; like you said, they just make me too cold!
I am much happier with a steaming bowl of barley or oatmeal. I’ll reserve the SIAB for warmer weather.
Gosh, if that cologne makes you want to cuddle up to it all day, then maybe every single man should get some!
