April 6, 2012

Are you surprised? The bunnies multiplied!! And they continue to hop out of the oven!

All of these are just the special orders we have received!

But people have been buying them all day. A very cute thing to do is to hollow out a bowl in the bunny’s back and serve a dip – sweet or savory – in the top at a brunch or cocktail party. Lots of customers are planning on doing it.

I left the action for a while to make it to my regular Pump class. I probably should have skipped it, but I would have missed my friends!

Walking on the track waiting for class to start..

Back at work [after a run home for a shower!], I plugged myself back into bunnies + bread. Had some almonds + grapes during my transition and then this honkin’ sandwich at 1 O’clock

Pimento cheese + veggies with steamed turkey. LOVE pimento cheese!

Having a blast here today – lots of things left to do!!

Excited to pick up at GH bunny at my local store this weekend:)

6 Hope @ With A Side Of Hope April 6, 2012 at 1:12 pm

Those bunnies are just super cute! :) I love that idea of hollowing it out and using it for dip. It would make a very unique presentation.

7 [email protected] April 6, 2012 at 1:19 pm

I wanna eat broccoli cheddar soup out of a bunny bowl!

8 Bee Goes Bananas April 6, 2012 at 1:19 pm

Wow, those rabbits are so adorable! I may have to try to make one on my own.

9 Cait's Plate April 6, 2012 at 1:23 pm

I just love those bunnies!! That’s such a great idea for the holidays…I wonder if GH Charlotte does it too??

That sandwich looks awesome…I’ve never tried pimento cheese but based on your review of it, I really should get on that!

PS – Your site isn’t gray for me in the center well, but it’s happening to my site on Chrome too! I’m glad I’m not alone there because my site is gray for me. So strange…

10 KathEats April 6, 2012 at 2:02 pm

CLT does have them!

So weird about the grey…must be a Chrome thing?

11 Cait's Plate April 6, 2012 at 4:54 pm

Oh yay!! I might have to pick one up!

And I know – I don’t get it…but I sure hope it goes away soon!

12 Ashley @ Coffee, Cake and Cardio April 6, 2012 at 1:24 pm

Cute bunnies!!

13 Averie @ Averie Cooks April 6, 2012 at 1:26 pm

Bunnies are known for their rapid multiplication and yours were no exception :)

Love it!

14 brittany April 6, 2012 at 1:26 pm

Can you only purchase the bread bunnies at your specific bakery? Or are other Great Harvest bakeries in on this delightful idea? I would love to pick one up if they are making them in CO!!!

15 KathEats April 6, 2012 at 2:02 pm

Most GH’s make them!

16 Sarah April 6, 2012 at 1:28 pm

Steamed turkey in your sandwich? Is that the way it comes or to warm it up?

17 KathEats April 6, 2012 at 2:02 pm

I steamed it in the microwave because of the pregnancy risks for listeria

18 Bruce April 6, 2012 at 1:33 pm

just been watching your site with all your posts. I just got a fitbit. Have you ever used one? Thoughts? I am just curious to see what from the perspective of a RD in its use. I actually really like it so far. It is not super accurate but sure it probably measures things consistently etc…..

their website is

I use it conjunction with lose it! app and also the earndit app. Earndit app gets you $$ for your workouts. Its is pretty cool actually.

Let me know your thoughts.

19 KathEats April 6, 2012 at 2:01 pm

Hey Bruce,
I hadn’t heard of that before, but it looks like an activity/metabolism tracker? I would use the information conservatively and not as an excuse to eat more than your hunger cues. Definitely fun to get an idea of your activity though – and a good motivator!

20 Bruce April 6, 2012 at 2:21 pm

Well that is only part of it. It tracks exercise, sleep (really cool – I can see how many times I woke up could clue me into sleep apnea), and food / water (but you have to log it in, which I am not so fond of), but I do like the encouragement you get.

For instance my first day using it, I saw I was about 200 steps shy of the 10K step goal, so before bed, I went out and walked the dog to the corner and back and hit my goal. Also if you have facebook friends you can track yourself towards their goals too and see them (but I don’t have any….:-()

21 Bruce April 6, 2012 at 2:24 pm

ALso through the earndit app, there is a challenge from time to time that a lot of people sign up for. I can see how my progress of (points earned on earndit) compares to the leader and if I want to win, have to exercise more….it is kind of addicting. Oh and you get badges on Fitbit (similar to foursquare etc.)

22 Bruce April 6, 2012 at 2:26 pm

Finally forgot to say that the other thing that makes it great is that you can after a workout or a day or a week look back onto a dashboard online and see what sort of progress or not progress you are making. That probably is the most useful thing.

23 KathEats April 6, 2012 at 2:24 pm

Cool!!! I love anything that tracks things :)

24 Kelly @ Foodie Fiasco April 6, 2012 at 1:36 pm

I think, between seeing you and getting one of those bunnies, I need to head to Cville. Like, today, if at all possible. 😉

25 Kelly @ Vegolosophy April 6, 2012 at 1:37 pm

Love those bunnies! What a cute idea for an easter gathering!

26 stacey April 6, 2012 at 1:39 pm

I ordered a bunny from my local Great Harvest this year. I’m going to put spinach dip in the “bowl”.

27 Diana @ frontyardfoodie April 6, 2012 at 1:42 pm

I love the bunnies!

Okay, pregger to pregger, you can’t show me a yummy sandwich like that without making me want one ASAP. Excuse me while I run to my kitchen.

28 Angel7 April 6, 2012 at 1:43 pm

Those bunnies are adorable! And would be so cute at Easter brunch! Love, love, love them! Have a great weekend!

31 Katharina April 6, 2012 at 2:03 pm

What are the “faces” on the bread bunnies? Raisins and jellybeans?

32 KathEats April 6, 2012 at 2:24 pm

33 jojo April 6, 2012 at 2:04 pm

Oh my gosh, the bunnies look so cute lined up like that!!!
I wish I lived near your bakery so I could get a few 😀

34 Lisa (bakebikeblog) April 6, 2012 at 2:32 pm

aawwwwww adorable bunnies!

35 Mai April 6, 2012 at 2:35 pm

those bunnies are too cute!

36 Nikki April 6, 2012 at 2:36 pm

Random question for you as a Registered Dietician. When they say “Eat five servings of fruits and vegetables each day,” does that mean five servings total, or five servings of fruit _and_ five servings of vegetables? Obviously more is better, but if it’s five of each then I’m going to have to start waking up earlier to fit all that in!!!

37 Becca April 6, 2012 at 2:46 pm

I love the bunnies :) they are so cute! What a great idea for

38 Khushboo April 6, 2012 at 3:21 pm

Love the dip idea in the bread bunnies!

39 Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles April 6, 2012 at 4:01 pm

Love the Bunny Bread! My mom is here for Easter so I showed here the bunnies…she loved them! Great idea for the dip! My sister-in-law always hollows out a pumpernickel bread for a spinach dip…very yummy!

40 Nancy April 6, 2012 at 6:32 pm

Okay, you talk about it often, so I have to ask. What exactly is pimento cheese? I live in NJ and have never heard of it. Is it a southern thing? It looks a little strange, but you seem to love it so much I figure it must taste good!

41 KathEats April 6, 2012 at 7:27 pm

It’s the best!! It’s shredded cheddar mixed with pimento peppers (mild in spice) and usually mayonnaise or cream cheese. It’s often served on crustless sandwiches at Southern church picnics! However, that’s not how I prefer to eat it :) There are so many different versions. This is a classic Southern spread recipe:

And this is my friend Kelsey’s recipe, which is my favorite homemade one. It’s thicker and uses greek yogurt and not as spreadable but still delish!

42 Nancy April 8, 2012 at 7:33 am

Okay, I’m going to try it! Thanks for the links. Happy Easter!

43 Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife April 6, 2012 at 6:36 pm

Whoa! What fun loaves :) Gotta love a good, quick pump class!

44 ~Christy @ wonderofallthings April 6, 2012 at 8:23 pm

Sounds like a whirlwind. Congrats on all the bunny orders! :) Love, love, LOVE the bunnies (sounding like a broken record, no??) :)

45 Lexi @ Cura Personalis Foodie April 7, 2012 at 12:06 am

47 Stacy @ Say It With Sprinkles April 7, 2012 at 8:32 pm

It’s things like those cute bunny bowls that really make me wish I weren’t gluten free!

48 Tiffany April 8, 2012 at 9:40 am

OMG. I have to admit I have never been into the Great Harvest here at home. Those easter bunnies make me want to go right now!! That has to be the cutest thing I have ever seen. Hope you have a wonderful Easter!
