Karen drove this 26′ U-Haul 6 hours up from Charlotte ALL BY HERSELF. She is crazy!!!! And brave!
Didn’t have the hands to photograph any of the moving at her place, but I’ll get some this afternoon.
I DID, however, manage to photograph the guys bringing in our new entertainment center! It doesn’t fit in her place so it’s on extended (permanent!?) loan to us!
!
I spent the morning vacuuming furniture (although I wrote “vacuuming laundry on Twitter and almost just did it again!?).
Then we took a rug to a rug store to be cut down. Then we returned the truck. Then, lunch! My “morning toast” actually held me over just fine (although I did eat lunch sooner than normal today).
We fancied up salads with bacon, grilled eggplant + carrots + peppers and goat cheese! All tossed in some Garlic Gold and garnished with Great Harvest Dakota croutons.
With a pear on the side for dessert
Headed back down to Karen’s for some unpacking and settling in. I biked over there this morning but am in a car now. Plan to bike back. It’s only about 2 miles from our house and a pleasant ride!

Wow I cannot believe that you guys made such nice salads while moving! Good luck with the rest of the move!!
Woww – props to Karen…I get nervous with the small UHauls!!
Those salads look great- I’m impressed that you had such a great lunch in the midst of moving!
No way I’d even drive a truck. Once I drove my mom’s minivan into our garage pillar….OOPS!
That is a BIG truck. I couldn’t handle that.
How nice to have family so close!!! Y’all are going to really enjoy that!
I would NOT drive a truck like that. I’m too dangerous on the roads in my little compact as it is. LOL
I could never drive a truck like that! My husband drove a much smaller UHaul when we moved to our house and he totally made sparks fly on the sides going through an underpass that was too narrow. Woops. I’m impressed!!
I like the mirrored doors!
Wow! she drove that alone? impressive…
your salad look yummy as always…
I have to give you guys props for always putting together great meals no matter how busy you are. If I was moving it’d be sandwich city
Way to go, Karen! She deserves a beer. Or two.
Gossip Girl is going to be that.much.better with that entertainment center.
best post title EVER!
that’s EXACTLY what i was going to say!!!
I wish I had a bike so I could bike everywhere. It sounds so lovely.
so nice that you will now have family close by!
I’m so impressed with Karen’s van-driving skills…I often have to transport students at my work in a 15 passenger, and I still hate backing up in that crazy thing!
Have a great weekend
I saw that Twitter post! It made me laugh
Does this mean you are officially getting cable?!?
Probably not cable..but maybe some kind of TV upgrade
DAAANG she is brave to drive that beast herself!
no way I could do that!
wow! I get nervous with a small uhaul. Super impressive
Oh WOW, go Karen!
LOVE your title on this post!!
That entertainment center is gorgeous! It’s a perfect fit for you guys!
With Karen in town, things are coming together, I’m sure you’ll nail down your location any moment now.
Good luck with the move!
this may be a bit of an odd question, but does that variety of pear taste differently than the others? I always buy Barletts or Bosc…I’ve noticed the kind you had for lunch in the store before but never tried them…
It does taste a little different – a little grittier and the skin is tougher, but I love the texture.
ha! just realized I meant to type that I usually by Bartlett or Anjou. Bosc is actually the one you had for lunch!
I think I would like them,though, cuz I’m a “texture” girl…
Ah, salad with bacon is so good
I would never ever have the courage to drive that monster
when i read this title and the first thing came to my mind was mother… ahem. haha… you’re a teaser.
Karen is sooo brave! I can barely drive a pick up truck without freaking out. I need to be able to see all around the car. I guess thats why I have a little Ford Focus
Did you ever get a tv like you talked about?
We did! From Emily + Casey. Still working on setup and technical tweaks
That is really nice that you can bike there! I am really happy for you guys! You seem to really enjoy where you are right now!
That truck is huge! She must have great depth perception, I’d be hitting everything in sight! Also, I love the entertainment center, it’s a classic (mostly because I can’t tell if it’s a vintage piece or a new piece so it must be timeless;)
She is a brave one isn’t she! There’s no way I could do that! I don’t even like driving the big ole diesel trucks. GO KAREN!!
Happy moving…or unpacking rather!
WOW that is awesome! I can barely drive a regular car across the Bay!
This is the best post title ever!
Don’t you love when the parents give you “permanent loans”? I miss that about living close to my ‘rents.
woah. that is one huge UHAUL!!! i could never ever do that! she’s one brave woman!!!
and that entertainment center is really nice! great score
Whew she’s one brave women!! I would have been terrified driving that thing by myself!
Good for her!I think I would be confident to drive that truck if I didn’t have to back up or change lanes!
Hee – and here I was convinced that vacuuming laundry was a fancy new trick I didn’t know!
There’s no way I would drive a U-Haul by myself! Go Karen! Hope she gets moved in all right, and I also hope that your entertainment addition is permanent (for your sake!)
Dang. I get scared just driving a Honda.
wow, impressive driver!
I have only had a pear once, I should change that!
Dang Karen! What a woman, I love it. I’d feel like such a bada– in that truck!
Glad everything’s going well, Happy Friday!
Wow…that’s awesome Karen drove that U-haul, I’m nervous just to drive an SUV! Love the black and white placemat!
you dont vacuum laundry?!
Ahh, those UHauls are scary to drive!
My boyfriend drove ours all the way from San Diego to Oregon towing a car behind it. Scaaaary!
Yay for family!! She is quite the brave woman – I don’t know if I woul dhave made that trip with that truck!
That’s nice that Karen’s so close.
Mmmmmhhhh, roasted veggies are so good with salad!
Wow, that is one Hugh Jass truck! I would never be able to drive something that big, let alone drive it for six hours by myself!
Mad props Karen!!
Those trucks are just not fun! Good for her… that is terrific! They are not very comfy either
Yummy salads
Gosh, even looking at the size of that truck gives me the heebie jeebies! Well done Karen!
This is totally random but I am trying a manhattan inspired by katheats and I must say it’s pretty good! I also am a tempeh eater now. Tempeh spaghetti is my fav.
My husband likes to say, “well, just because Kath did it…” LOL!
You know I did see you Tweet “vacuum laundry” earlier, but was like “well, who knows what that Kath is into…” LOL!
for karen to drive that is so cool! kudos to her
