So you know how Karen (my MIL) folds her comforter at the bottom of her bed?
Here’s my attempt to recreate the same coziness. Although something tells me I need more fluff!
I just swapped on our wintertime Pottery Barn bedding. All wedding gifts that I LOVE! Our bedroom set is actually NOT the Pottery Barn Farmhouse collection, although it looks very similar. It came from World Market and we got the whole thing 40% off! So all four pieces were probably about 15% of the price that Pottery Barn’s are.

Just before lunch I got a burst of energy to go to the gym! Really I think all the bedding shuffle had me itching to read Better Homes & Gardens and there’s no better place to do that than the gym! (For some reason I cannot just sit on the couch and read a magazine. I have to be moving. I must have inherited this strange behavior from my dad, who reads + walks 6 miles a day!)
I biked to the gym and spent a leisurely 30 minutes on the elliptical, did some foaming and then headed home. Pretty low-key and just what I was in the mood for.

What leftovers do you still have!? A huge bonus to being hostess: hostess with the mostess leftovers!!
Stuffing Salad is a favorite of mine.
- A bed of lettuce + spinach
- A carrot
- ~1 cup of heated stuffing
- 1 extra fig because I love figs and would put MORE in the stuffing if Matt would let me
- 2 small plums
- ~3 tbsp wheatberries
- ~10 cinnamon almonds
- No dressing because I wanted the flavors to pop
Consumed in the warmth of the living room!
Showertime, the hopefully, tree time!

I fold a blanket at the foot of my bed. Similar effect, but the comforter can still poof a lot!!
I wish we had leftovers. We had to scrounge in the pantry for a whole lot of nothing…not fun! Now we are off to the grocery store to stock up!
It looks so pretty!! and yess to leftovers…best part of hosting Thanksgiving!
I actually like the look of that, too! It certainly does look cozy
I never thought to put stuffing on a salad to bulk it up – what an awesome way to use up some of my Thanksgiving leftovers!
Your bed looks so pretty!
I can’t sit and read a magazine either. I can sit and read books, but not magazines. Something about them screams time on the elliptical or stepmilll to me too.
I keep my comforter folded at the end of my bed but I have the opposite problem of you, my duvet is too fluffy. It sorta swallows my bed. There is definitely a happy medium, but I think your comforter looks good.
Aah I always read and walk!! I always thought i was somewhat odd, so it’s good to know other people do too
So many leftovers. It’s just me and my mom and an entire turkey so I’ve had it every lunch and dinner for three days= ooverrdooseeee on the bird. Stuffing on salad sounds like a nice change up though
I honestly cannot get over how cute that photo is with the cat on the bed! Adorable!
Your leftovers still look tasty, and I think your bedding looks great… though fluffy things always look good too.
I am lucky enough that my mom sent me home with alot of her leftovers. Today I toasted the leftover corn bread in the oven to make bread cubes for our buffalo chili!
wow – what gorgeous bed linen!!! I am (in)patiently waiting for our new bed linen to arrive – I ordered it online!
The room and bed look BEAUTIFUL! So chic and homey at the same time
And were down to just Turkey mostly on left overs…we’ve been shoveling into other people’s mouths as much as possible!
I always try and do that with my comforter but it never turns out fluffy enough. Get some tips for us decorating disabled folks
I love figs! And I need new comforter. Love the colors in your bedding
I have a hard time sitting still and reading, too. Your bedding looks nice and cozy.
I love your Mom’s headboard (I have a thing about headboards – Just made my own) Did she make it or have it made? I’m thinking she must of as I see matching pillows.
I also LOVE LOVE LOVE your four-poster bed – it is so classic. And your bedding goes beautifully. I think you have enough poof.
But what do you have underneath the comforter? That’s not a sheet is it? or is it a blanket of some kind?
She did have it custom made – and the pillows to match.
Underneath is a bedspread – a white swirly one.
Ah, I just ADORE your bedding. I’m a trooper for pottery barn, Antropology, world market, and crate and barral– although, not one for their high prices
Enjoy your day!!
I love the picture of the shoe. I thought Matt drew it at first, and was going to pay my compliments!
I’m going to be in the market soon for a new comforter and would have never thought of World Market. I’m definitely going to check it out now. I love your comforter!
Beautiful bed! Our’s sits on a hand-me-down Ikea bedframe
Your Dad is amazing to be able to walk and read! I’d definitely be eating asphalt! LOL!
Love the bedding, Kath!
I’m happy to see I’m not the only “stuffing salad” afficiando!!
I’ve had one for the last 3 days!
love,
cathy b. @ brightbakes
I know you used to dislike leftovers, but now have learned to love them…I still dislike them. Luckily, I get other people to eat them for me so they don’t go to waste!
We still have tons of turkey leftover! The sides have pretty much been depleted.
I love the idea of stuffing salad! Next year maybe…
The comforter fold must be a mom-thing. My mom does it too. Very cozy!
I love leftovers. I think they’re way better than the original turkey fest meal.
Your comforter looks so cozy and homey. I love it!
cant wait to see the tree.
Question for Freya and KERF Dad:
How do you walk and read at the same time? Call me clumzy (and that I definitely am,) but I would be worried about tripping over something… Or walking into a pole or breezing through an intersection. And are you able to keep up a quick pace?
Clearly I am not cut out for such ambitious activities!
You have to use peripheral vision and look up frequently – but also, walking on a smooth sidewalk or surface does help a lot. I have gotten hit by branches before! Neighborhood streets are the best, or wide open sidewalks.
I love the folded look, but my sheets are ALWAYS wrinkled, so it never looks good.
That stuffing could not look any more delicious! Reading while I exercise is my favorite especially with the Kindle!! I can make the font bigger so I can run on the treadmill and it is easy to see and flip the pages!
I’m sure your husband *loves* the fact you are trying to recreate his mother’s bed!
I always save my magazines to read on the elliptical too! If I didn’t have something to read while working out, I would get way too bored!
I am sad I don’t have leftovers!! I am craving a leftover sandwich so bad!
Ohhh love the bedding and your bedroom!
Lovely bedding, I’ve never been a blanket folder and it always seems to fall off the end of our bed anyway.
I can not read sitting still, I must be doing some cardio.
ooh, i love that folding style. also, can i just say that YOU saying MY BLOG makes you feel like you’re reading ‘real simple’ is hilarious (b/c yours is SO that for me!). also, i heart real simple. (even though really — it isn’t!)
hope you had a great tgiving!
I’ve always imagined the phrase as hostess with the “mostest”
Tomato tomato I guess.
Oh, this is where I got it from! http://www.hostesswiththemostess.com/
Why on earth wouldn’t Matt let you put more figs in the stuffing?! Figs are like manna from heaven!
I love the fact that you have different bedding for winter! Is it to keep you warmer, or just for looks? I have no need for warmer bedding here in California, but I love the idea of coordinating your bedding for the seasons
I love hosting for the same reasons!
You reap the benefit for several days.
Whooo your salad looks very festive!!
Pretty bedding and salad! My family and I finished all of the leftovers today.
If you want to fluff up your comforter, here’s what I do: throw it in a commercial, front-load dryer with several (I use a whole can) brand-new, never been used tennis balls. I’m not sure why, but it totally fluffs the heck out of it. Works with feather beds, too, if they get mashed down. You don’t need any heat, just a little tumbling and the tennis ball action seems to do the trick.
