Yeah good call with the fluid consumption making us more full.

I took two semesters of organic chem (both lecture and lab) in undergrad. It's tough. Good luck!

chelsea ,
Yes, that's the NET calories premise. If you burn more, you eat more, and you're always eating the minimum to keep your calories above your BMR.

Serena ,
I think the biggest reason I have been snacking less is that I've been sleeping a little later in the mornings and eating a much later lunch. It also could be the heat and/or appetite supression from more low-intensity activity spread throughout the day. If you think you're eating too much because you're bored, then you know what to do to cut back - employ the common advice of not having the food in the house, pre-portioning things, writing it down, etc. But you may be thirstier from the heat/exercise and be interpreting that as hunger. I know that happens to me a lot. So try increasing your fluids and see what that does. But if you're exercising a lot harder, you probably do need to eat a little more and your body is asking for it.

goalie30 ,
Summer DID fly by!! It seems like so long ago that I was in night school chemistry. I'm kind of itching for school to start, but at the same time I know I'll be wishing for more free time as soon as it does, so I'm not itching that hard!!

Loved your ABC's post. I've already got a new binder!! I love your blog's new look too!

Ozlem ,
Yes you do need to pre-cook the wheatberries. I've tried wheat, spelt and rye berries. The wheat ones say to pre-soak and then simmer for 30-45 minutes and the spelt and rye don't need a pre-soak. So the next time I make wheatberries I'm not going to soak them and see what happens since that's the most annoying step. Check out my "Wheatberry Lesson" page for more info.

Hot Garlic,
It wasn't a salad - there was pasta underneath! I can't share the recipe because it's for my cookbook submissions, but it will be available in 2010. Sorry for the wait!

Fitzalan ,
I'm starting Organic Chem so I think this will be my hardest semester of them all. I'm in class less hours this semester, but the courses themselves will require more outside work. I was going to take a 5th class but decided to hold back because of Organic and take more in the spring and summer 2009.

runjess ,
I think it's very likely the heat. And maybe we're drinking more from thirst and it's making our stomachs more full?

I'm having weird absence-of-hunger issues as well. Yesterday I got hungry in the late afternoon but decided to just wait until dinner and not have another snack. Hunger totally went away for hours, even with not eating. This has been common lately and I'm wondering if it's the heat.

Chelsea- I like Kath, think you are perhaps underweight or just fine for your height!
I also had a similar "problem" a year ago...
I was concerned about losing 3 pounds and restricting my diet when really I was doing myself more harm than good. I am a pretty active person and eating 1200 calories a day was taking me no where and actually working against me (that so called fight or flight body response when its concerned about food stores actually makes the body conserve fat!)

So what I did was actually increase my caloric intake and do some resistance training and those 3 lbs I wanted to lose disapeared! WHILE EATING MORE!! Imagine that! Haha.

Hope this helps because your situation sounds similar to what I experienced.

Chelsea, go to an online calories calculator. There is a great one on foodfit.com It asks you age, height, current weight and goal weight as well as how often/intense your workouts are and tells you what you would need your intake to be. I believe if you go under Fitness, then Get Fit, and go to the Healthy Weight Calculator you'll find it.

I can't wait for the recipe book too...Kath's mystery recipes all look soooo good!

Mmmm, fabulous looking dinner. I am intrigued by the new Starbucks smoothies but I keep reading mixed reviews and because I don’t have any free coupons, I just haven’t been able to talk myself into spending the $$ on something that may not be worth it.

I cannot believe you are already starting school again!!! I feel like you just finished (which I am sure you feel the same way!) Will this semester have as many difficult classes as last semester?

Hi Kath- quick question for you..
I bought wheatberries from the store yesterday and added to my oatmeal this am. Do you have to cook this oryou just sprinkle and cook with the oatmeal or what? it was chewy and OK. But I just did not know.

Also re: the mystery recipes I joined late so I dont know. These are recipes you created and cant share because you are working on a cookbook?? That is great!

Thanks!
