Tonight was an all-American classic summer-in-June outdoor concert awesome evening complete with friends and good food. What is it about June!?
I packed up some rolls at the bakery…
…then ate one and spoiled my dinner!
After we closed we headed downtown on our bikes to meet friends at Cville’s Fridays After Five concert. Awesome.
I just love the festive, family vibe at Fridays After Five!
Matt and I headed to the beer tent where he got a Starr Hill Northern Lights and I had a Shock Top.
[Matt said because his was a craft brew and mine was mainstream. And you know what, we ended up switching because his was better!!]
We missed you Faith!
After a bit, we decided to move our group to dinner at The Local! ‘Twas a short walk across the tracks and over to Belmont
This was our fourth time at The Local and we had just as good a meal as any – outdoor dining at its finest! The weather today was just perfect. Not hot at all!
To start, I had a Bluegrass Brewing Bourbon Barrel Stout – a favorite beer of mine. I shared it with Matt, as I was more interested in the water on the table : )
Last time we were at The Local, we had the Burrata cheese and HAD to have it again!! This is the best cheese ever!
Since I filled up on bread + beer, I decided on a salad for dinner. The Watermelon + Goat Cheese salad was perfect. I was so happy to receive a pile of greens with the main pieces – so appreciative of veggies! The goat cheese was spectacular.
I also stole a few bites of Matt’s Truffle Mac n Cheese
The others at our table offered up their entrees for the camera – meat loaf
And ketchup, which must be local!
We had a grand time getting to know Will and Sarah! Will actually writes a blog about his philosophical musings as a doctor and would love for you all to pay him a visit
The Local somehow got word that KERF was in the house and brought us over two complimentary desserts to share –
An incredible banana split – complete with banana ice cream and lots of whipped cream!!
And my favorite, an adorable jar of lemon curd and a plethora of fresh berries. The lemon curd was outstanding, and of course the fact that it was served in a jar made me love it at first bite!
Thanks, The Local, for making us feel welcome.
We have an early morning tomorrow – we’re slicing bread for a training run for the big women’s 4 miler here in Cville. I’m already past bedtime and need to get there STAT!!
Nite!

Love your shirt! The sunset lighting is beautiful.
looks like a fun night. That salad sounds so good!
dinner looks delicious! I want a bite of that mac n cheese
I missed you too!! You should have texted me and let me know about all the fun I was missing! That lemon curd is pretty awesome.
Oh what a fun evening and fun post…Fridays After Five looks like my kinda way to spend Friday!
And spoiling your dinner b/c of cinny bread…totally worth it
When you “write” on your pics, do you do that in Lightroom or in picnik or another program? I need to do that but still havent figured it out in LR 3 and havent tried out any other programs…yet.
Photoshop. I can only figure out how to do one word in LR
I love watermelon with cheese – the sweet with the salty gets me every time!
Wow – The Local is a place right up my alley. I wish we had more local, farm-to-table places up here. It definitely seems like a push in the southeatern states – when I was visiting my sister in Atlanta there were SO many and the food was just so fresh and delicious. Hopefully it creeps up the east coast into the northeast soon!
Looks like a fun night all around
Good luck with your early morning tomorrow!
Orlando is heading that way!!
Creeper alert, but do you happen to work at Dandelion?
I do, weirdo!
Just kidding. About the weirdo part, yes I work at Dandy!
I knew you looked familiar! I go there all the time, haha.
I’m there what feels like 90% of the time, let me know when you come next! I’ll make you something awesome in the kitchen
Katherina, you’re so lucky! Send some local movement up the coast
I totally will. I love meeting new bloggers in Orlando.
That bread looks amazing! You should do a Great Harvest give-a-way…wish there was one near me
The Local looks like such an awesome restaurant! Oh and cute top!
so. much. good. food.
burrata cheese is amazingg!
There’s so many great activities in that town. I love it. It sounds like an amazing place to live.
Love the berry dessert! Such a great summer treat!
Your town looks so adorable and fun!
i’m envious of your summer outfit. i’m in nyc where i thought it’d be hot, but have been wrapped up the whole time!
Your shorts this evening were adorable!
Great outfit today
Sounds like you had a fantastic Friday night too. That lemon curd sounds way beyond delicious!
Purple is definitely your color! Sounds like a great way to end a day at the bakery.
Anheuser Busch beer! I’m shocked. That curd with berries looks delicious. I have some lemon curd chilling in the fridge to be made into a semi-freddo tomorrow.
Yum, the rolls look wonderful! Looks like a wonderful evening of beer, cute pics.
You’ll be happy to know that I was at our GH yesterday and told them all about your GH and your Apple Crunch Bread Pudding. Ours had S’mores Bread Pudding. CRAZY. Hope you have a good weekend!
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
I love your outfit! Charlottesville always looks like it always has something fun going on
Truffle mac and cheese?? ER YUM!
I just tried gh for the first time this wed,ok(but I am not a bread gal). For how much you guys go out to eat, do you ever have anything negative/construcrtive criticism to say about the restaurants and service? I am a Philly girl….so you know what they say about phillies fans, nothings good enough. But still you guys rarely diss a rest?
Yeah, they’re in here, but few and far between. Most of the restaurants here are really good!
Looks like a fun night!
I think this might be our dinner spot for when I go visit Charlottesville and your Great Harvest bakery. It’s awesome that everything is local!
Sounds like a great Friday evening! The desserts look especially awesome – I skipped dessert this evening (although I did have two yummy cocktails) and I REALLY missed it. So I came home and ate a handful of peanut M&Ms!
Fun! The Local sounds so delicious! Especially that salad- watermelon and goat cheese are such a great combo. And that banana split! YUM!!!!!
By the way- I’m loving your purple shirt! Looks so great on you!
Just registered for the women’s 4 miler! You should do it! It is a wonderful race. I would sign up today if you are interested though, it fills up quickly!
I registered just now too – set my alarm!
I’m probably slicing for it!
You will love the women’s four miler training program – I did it years ago and it’s such a fun, supportive atmosphere. Are you slicing bread for the race this year?
That lemon curd looks delicious. Mmmmm lemon + berries.
the runners will appreciate the bread!
ketchup with mac n cheese – we always did that, as kids, in our family!
what a wonderful friday evening to welcome the summer season.
You moved to an amazing town Kath! And I can definitely tell you are taking advantage of everything it has to offer. I wish our town was like that!
I’m so jealous of how nice the weather looks in your pictures. Eating/drinking on a nice patio is one of my favourite ways to spend a summer evening but it’s gonna be raining all weekend where I am… guess I’ll have to live vicariously through healthy living blogs this weekend lol…
You look/sound particularly joyous lately, Kath…despite your long hours, I betcha the rewarding work you are doing w/the bakery is a contributor (along with the June-in-the-air mood.) So happy for you!
p.s. Cute shorts!
Thanks
It’s summer!
The picture of you striking a pose is adorable!
And I’ve never had lemon curds, but I love citrus and fruit desserts. Now I’m intrigued.
What a perfect summer Friday night! I love outdoor concerts and events in the evenings when the weather is nice… gotta take advantage of it! And that sounds like a fantastic dinner, especially with that surprise dessert.
You make C-Ville look like the coolest place ever, especially in the summer!
The watermelon salad looks PERFECT!
Looks like fun! I miss beer! Of all the things I had to change to eliminate gluten thats the one that hurts the most
Ugh! So jealous of the food in this post! My husband and I have just moved to Korea, and I’ve found all cheese except…GOAT CHEESE! SO I’m drooling over your salad!
However upon moving here I do have a bit of time on my hands, do you recommend any books/websites with good recipes on making bread? Figured I’d try my hand at making some healthy options for my family since not many are offered at the stores here.
Any advice would be appreciated!!
I believe Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes A Day is a big bread book to check out
The Local is less than a quarter mile from Spudnuts, home of the best doughnuts on earth. I don’t even like donuts, but these are not to be missed.
It looks like you all had a fun time!

SIGH* truffle mac n cheese
Hahaha I like how you didn’t even have to contact them beforehand that you were coming–they just knew you were there! You’re on their radar!
I don’t blame you; I would have ruined my appetite for dinner with those rolls, too!!!
Your purple shirt is too cute!
You look good in purple! And I love Summer night concerts <–woot!
I’m dying to try the Popeye & Cinnamon Chip!!
Super funnn
And I looove with that lemon curd jar!
uh.. scratch the “with”..
Here I go talking about bourbon again…
So jealous you can still get the Bourbon Barrel Stout on draught! I went to the BBC just the other day, and they are out until winter!
I really think it’s at least in my top 5 fav. beers.
