It was so totally cool that the group of us were able to get together during the workday for lunch and a walk.
We’ve all have lots to do today (or some of us got it done at 3am) but squeezed in time for lunch and a walk with Gilbert!
Gilbs even got in a few minutes of “Scruff” with Matt (they run around and compete)
Our lunch was an amazing potluck spread
We brought the bread (of course) and popchips
Kate + Nate had the coldcuts, condiments, hummus + veggies, grapes + pineapple, oatmeal cookies and major hospitality!
Kelsey brought broccoli salad (recipe here: Olive + Broccoli Salad)
I made a delicious Ham, Swiss + Hummus Sandwich on a Flax Oat Bran bun – with pickles, mustard, mayo and peppers.
A few Popchips
A half cup or so of broccoli
And a ton of fresh fruit + veggies + hummus
Talk about a rainbow!
Then came dessert!!
Kate’s chewy oatmeal cookies
and Great Harvest Savannah Bars!
I had a bite of each
And a second bite of Savannah (and a second cookie nibble that too quick to catch!)
Walking is good for digestion!!! We did about 40 minutes of walking with Gilbert on the Greenway.
Then we hit up Target. I got a UK adapter, travel shampoo, travel Advil, Q-tips, a traveler’s neck pouch, travel deodorant, and Swiffer dusters!
Upon arriving home, I found this package in my mailbox from Whitney in Chicago!! I could SMELL the wonderful coffee before I even opened the package. She also sent me some of her homemade granola, which you can find here: Granola w/ Almonds, Pistachios and Cranberries. Can’t wait to try both tomorrow morning!!! Thank you Whitney!
This morning I went on a great 6 mile run. I was feeling really full from breakfast at first and didn’t know if I’d make it, but after my stomach settled some (after a slower jog than my normal pace) I picked up speed and raced like the wind for the last 2 miles. Our weather has gotten much worse since
I had an apricot half and 2 walnuts to tide me until lunch. It’s amazing how something so small can work like that.
Zesty helped Kelsey and I give Bites + Bowls a makeover. Thanks Zest from me and Kels!!
Happy Dietitian Day!! The ADA president, Martin Yadrick, rang the Opening Bell to start the NASDAQ trading day!
My to-do list has not shrunk much….see you again soon!

Great run
I cannot run at all if I have a full tummy and end up just walking!
great time with great friends = happiness
Love the pup!
Hi Kath,
Just wanted to pop in and say hi. I have been out of the loop for a bit, moving from MI to CA!! Good luck on your African safari!! Can’t wait to hear all about it. Take care.
Sheila
How did Gilbert manage to get himself in four pictures? That dog loves the camera (and it loves him back).
Tell Kelsey her shirt and dark jeans are trendy and awesome!
Also, wondering if you have tons to do, why not cut your run shorter?
awe Gilbert is the cutest dog!! I like how he poses for the picture. I guess he knows he’s hot!
Great colorful food!
I’ve been wondering where you were–now I know!! What a bright, cheerful meal (well, entire day!).
*smiles*
Michele
Gilbert is indeed adorable, can’t argue with you there!
I’m so excited for you to go to Africa..you leave this saturday???!!
What a great lunch!! Looks like you all had fun!
You and the hubby are matching!
just in case you don’t get this from the last post…
Did you find a good hotel deal Kath? It’s so damn pricey in DT Charleston! (which is to be expected I guess)
What a fun lunch! Glad you enjoyed it!
A dinner party for lunch, with friends, with a walk, on a weekday? You so crazy!
Aww, Gilbert’s a sweetie! I’m envious of the Greenway – how long is it?
Aw I think that that is the best kind of lunch!
What a great pot luck spread!! Everything looks so healthy and delicious
Good luck accomplishing your to do list!
Kelsey is looking FIERCE among the couples!
SO FUN!! And oh man, I want a Savannah bar.
cute dog! I still cant believe you are going to africa you are going to have so much fun!! Oh and that savannah bar looks amazing!!
Poochie is adorable. Loved the lunch too.
aww, so nice that you could have a get together. I love spontaneous lunch parties or dinner parties.
The fruit and vegetables look so colorful and fresh…spring, come quickly!
Looks like a fun lunch date
Especially when you get to walk a puppy!
Fun! Nice dinner-party in the daytime (minus the wine). I take my dog with me when I run…which is not always the easiest thing to do considering all the other dogs, birds, and little kids (ugh) she wants to “play” with. Not to mention the…potty breaks we’ll call them.
Honestly sometimes I wish I could run without her but I dont have time to run me and walk her, and she knows what it means when I put on my sneakers and it’s so hard to leave her behind when she’s so excited!
That lunch has such bright colors, it looks fantastic! The best meals are always enjoyed with good company
What a fun day!!!
Fun afternoon!
those Savannah bars look soooo good! I miss Great Harvest terribly! If you didn’t cross a lot of your to-do list at least you had a great day with friends!
sounds like you guys had fun, your potluck lunch feast looks delicious!
Intelligentsia coffee!! You are so lucky – they are amazing roasters! I used to live outside of Chitown, and we would go in just to have a latte there and pick up some beans.
I was kind of thinking the same thing as Jennifer. If I had so much to do that I was going to have to bring homework on a 4 day trip to Kenya, I would be filling my days with more work and less play so that I could enjoy the trip! To each her own I suppose.
Kath – I’d discourage you from taking time management tips from the haters above, who have clearly:
A. Spent their time reading through all of your blog post and all of your comments, and
B. Felt the need to tell you how to live your life
Doesn’t seem like the best use of one’s time. Keep up the good work. Oh, and that dog is really cute.
cute dog!!! That lunch spread looks delicious! esp the broccoli salad!
Gilbert stole the show. Too cute! But the GH bars look good too.
What a yummy spread!
Kath, do you know of any great salsas that don’t have an overwhelming onion or garlic taste? I have a strong aversion to both and thought you might be able to help me.
Peppers are so good on sandwiches!!!
Was National RD day today or yesterday? I thought yesterday but I may be a day off!
RD day was definitely yesterday but ADA pres did ring the bell on Wallstreet today. We all congratulated each other on Facebook, but not too many work places know about RD day:)
Hi Kath – you’re such a trend setter…I find it quite funny that another blog I frequent seems to incorporate your ideas within a couple days of you adding it to your blog…such as your blogroll and signature at the end of your post….do things like that annoy you? I, personally, would be a tad bit annoyed..LOL!
Kath
I love your blog! Great job on your run today! Have an amazing time in Africa!!
Marci- not a hater, just telling it like it is.

Hi! Good luck with the move
Lisa ,
I think the Greenway is now 6 miles – maybe 8 – one way.
Casey ,
No, I don’t, unfortunately! I like a lot of the kinds in Mexican restaurants that are like pureed tomato with cilantro, but I have yet to find a jarred kind I like. Let me know if you do!
Katie ,
)
Thanks for the clarification – I should have known because yesterday was the Charlotte Dietetic Association’s big day (and I couldn’t go b/c of midterms
Jennifer ,
Yes, a little…
Kath
What a fun way to spend the day!! Glad to see you were able to have a good time after all that stress and studying!! That’s probably why you had such a difficult time sleeping last night… stress hangover lol.
I have a quick question about your oatmeal… you say that you add “9-grain” to it quite often and I was wondering what that is exactly and where to find it? I also was wondering what brand of oats you use and how you cook them? I never seem to cook mine just right!
btw, your orange shirt and necklace (top photo) are ADORABLE!!
Heather,
Thanks! The 9 grain cereal is from Great Harvest. You could use oat bran or any of the brand name multigrain cereals just like it. I use Quaker Old Fashioned Rolled Oats for my oatmeal. I’ve been mixing them 50/50 and 75/25 and am enjoying the combo. I do think the multigrain (which is mostly oat bran) holds me over a little longer. Hard to tell, though.
Kath
What an amazing looking lunch crowd.. But seriously– It looks like we are the mafia or something + I am head dog!! woof!!
Happy Dietitian Day to you Kath!!!
Looks like you have an awesome amount of food to hold you over for your flights!
Such a cute puppy. Hope you enjoy the coffee and the granola! Intelligentsia really is one of my fav. things about Chicago.
Jennifer – it’s funny that you ask that because I’ve wondered the opposite; there are things (like the signature) that Kath has borrowed from other blogs and I wonder if they get annoyed when a “bigger fish” uses their ideas. However, I can say (for me personally at least) that half the point of blogging communities is the sharing of ideas, no one is really going to stress over things like that.
So many good eats!
What a lovely colorful spread! Looks delicious.
Kath, you will LOVE that coffee!! Intelligentsia coffees are superb. Their Black Cat Espresso is one of my favorites!
Oh so cute! I always melt over dogs! Love your sweater!
Kath, your camera takes the BEST quality photos. I’m uber jealous.
Best of luck with your packing!
