Matt Is In Charge

August 29, 2011

Fun times at the bakery today

Lots to do! Including a break for a power walk with a new friend!

Followed by a snack of vanilla soy milk with the crumbles of the Cville Cluster bag

Matt and I charged through our list today and worked right through closing. I realized today that my Great Harvest email address had been frozen since JULY 16!!!!!!!!!! SO many missed emails – the horror. I spent the late afternoon responding and apologizing for the delay.

When I came out of the office, this was waiting for me:

Ladies [and gents], the best pumpkin beer ever. Matt snuck it in this afternoon when he ran an errand! Why do I suspect that he really goes out for a beer when he runs errands!? Just kidding – I told him to! He needed a break.

We shared this monster while he was on a call this evening and I twiddled my thumbs

When he hung up, he declared that he was not doing a single dish tonight and we were going out. I tried to protest and mumbled something about budgets and my LOOT app, but he won. We went out.

Our third restaurant (because the first two we tried were closed) was Fry’s Spring Pizza! Love this place.

And love their hummus plate!!

We shared this to start

And then shared a Hot Pepperoni Pizza for dinner

I had two ooey gooey scrumdiddleyumptious slices.

And now the evening is calming down. Matt’s reading in bed and I’m off to join him.

It’s COLD out there folks. Chilly!

2 Cait @ Beyond Bananas August 29, 2011 at 8:37 pm

That dinner is so much more appealing then mine was! I’ve never had pumpkin beer. I think that needs to change.

10 Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table August 29, 2011 at 8:47 pm

Who is the pumpkin ale by? I am SO ready for cooler weather! I’m actually in Denver for work right now and it’s still toasty here. *sigh*

11 Elizabeth August 29, 2011 at 8:47 pm

13 Kate (What Kate is Cooking) August 29, 2011 at 8:48 pm

I am dying to find that pumpkin ale! I don’t even like beer but it’s my goal to try any one with a pumpkin on it :)

14 wymberley August 29, 2011 at 8:49 pm

16 Laura (On the Threshold of Greatness) August 29, 2011 at 8:58 pm

That pumpkin beer IS good! I had my first glass last night at the Capital Ale House in Fredericksburg. <3 I'm soooo excited about fall and all the pumpkiny goodness that comes with it!

17 Baking N Books August 29, 2011 at 8:59 pm

What does Pumpkin Beer taste like?

Are you reading anything new now for your book club? What does Matt read?

18 Sweet and Savvy August 29, 2011 at 9:06 pm

That appetizer looks Amazing! Have a great night!:)

19 Chloe (In Fine Feather) August 29, 2011 at 9:07 pm

Hummus is so GOOD – I’m totally addicted. I’d love to eat there. Hope you figure out the email situation, it’s annoying when small things like that happen.

20 Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me August 29, 2011 at 9:07 pm

My favorite pumpkin beer WAS Shipyard, but it just tastes different this year. So I’m on the prowl for a new favorite!

21 Christine (The Raw Project) August 29, 2011 at 9:08 pm

Yikes on your email, sorry about that! The hummus plate looks wonderful!

22 Shaya (Eye Girl Eats) August 29, 2011 at 9:10 pm

Yum! I think I might make myself pizza tonight now too… yours looks so good!

I’ll trade weather with you– it’s still 85 degrees outside here! I miss cool, fall weather… enjoy it and your pumpkin beer!!

23 Kristen August 29, 2011 at 9:11 pm

You + Matt NEED to come to St. Louis and try Schlafly Pumpkin on draft… it is so amazing! Their Christmas Ale, Oatmeal Stout, + Coffee Stout are also AHmazing! But their pumpkin is hands down the best pumpkin beer around! Your making a very pregnant girl very jealous – and ready for October to get here NOW. ;o)

24 Emma August 29, 2011 at 9:57 pm

It is delicious!! I live 2 miles from Bottleworks and finally had my first Schlafly’s pumpkin beer yesterday. Amazing!!

25 sarah August 30, 2011 at 8:10 am

hey Kristen and Emma, I live in St. Lou, too! We should have a Kath’s Fanclub beer tasting some time!

26 KathEats August 30, 2011 at 9:19 am

Oh man, I wish I could come too!

27 ashley August 30, 2011 at 9:51 am

I live in StL, also (also really close to bottleworks!). I regularly go there for friday night dinner and a fresh fresh beer – SO good!

28 Stacy @ Every Little Thing August 30, 2011 at 10:50 am

I’m also in STL and go to Bottleworks all the time! Their Pumpkin is def my favorite pumpkin. I’ve tried quite a few but Schlafly always wins!

29 Emma August 30, 2011 at 11:20 am

The food is so good! I love how they use so many local ingrediants!

30 Deva (Voracious Vorilee) August 29, 2011 at 9:14 pm

It IS cold out there! I am all bundled up in my purple hoodie, but I am also coming down with a cold :-(.

Your dinner looks AMAZING :-)

31 Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles August 29, 2011 at 9:16 pm

That hummus plate is glorious looking!!!! I would love to share that it looks soooo good, so does your pizza! ….Wishing you a day full of sunshine and an empty e-mail inbox. :) Okay, maybe not empty but an easier day with the inbox.

32 Emily @ Comfortable Home Life August 29, 2011 at 9:16 pm

Are you fo’ serious with that hummus plate?? I am drooling over here! I just wrote down what it looks like is on there so I can re-create ASAP!!

33 Molly @ RDexposed August 29, 2011 at 9:17 pm

I need more info on this pumpkin beer! Where is it brewed? How far must I travel to purchase?

34 KathEats August 30, 2011 at 9:18 am
35 Molly @ RDexposed August 30, 2011 at 5:14 pm

This gives me hope since I’m in Illinois! Thanks!

36 CheezyK August 29, 2011 at 9:17 pm

Oh my goodness, I cannot even begin to digest having to go through work e-mails from that far back! Glad you found out about it and were able to get things rolling again.

Looks to me like dinner was well worth going out for!

37 Katie @ Peace Love and Oats August 29, 2011 at 9:21 pm

That pizza looks AMAAAAAZING!!! Clearly it’s been too long since I’ve gotten pizza… And what a good husband to bring you pumpkin beer! I need to find one of those! (both the beer and the man, haha).

38 Marian August 29, 2011 at 9:28 pm

The hummus plate looks amazing!! And even better because someone else prepared it!

39 Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats August 29, 2011 at 9:30 pm

That looks like an amazing hummus platter! :) Glad you guys had a nice dinner out!

40 Kristin August 29, 2011 at 9:31 pm

That hummus plate looks delish!

41 Eileen August 29, 2011 at 9:33 pm

That hummus plate is absolutely gorgeous!

I’ve gotta find that pumpkin beer this year. I’ve never had that particular one, but I looooove the Southern Tier one!

42 Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance August 29, 2011 at 9:36 pm

Wow! That hummus plat looks delicious– I’m loving the black olive addition

43 Cait's Plate August 29, 2011 at 9:36 pm

It was cold this morning while walking to work and it made me SO excited! I also can hardly believe that Fall is almost here.

I absolutely cannot wait for my Cville Cluster batch to get here. Every time I have granola that is not Cville Cluster it’s just not the same. Once you’ve had the best, it’s hard to ever go back 😉

That pizza. looks. amazing. And it looks like it was such a fun night – I like when Matt’s in charge! Haha

44 Angel7 August 29, 2011 at 9:37 pm

I have not had a great pumpkin ale, and will have to remember the name of this one.

That pizza looks heavenly!!!

45 Jil @ Big City, Lil' Kitchen August 29, 2011 at 9:42 pm

Your meal looks amazing…that die forrr

46 Dominique August 29, 2011 at 9:50 pm

I find that Mondays are the hardest to find a restaurant to dine in because most are closed. And that’s usually when I get a craving for a specific restaurant that is specifically closed on Monday. I’ve never tried Schafly’s pumpkin beer and every time you feature it, I want it! I’m going to do a thorough search this fall.

47 kristacular August 29, 2011 at 9:51 pm

omg that pumpkin beer looks delicious! I wonder if it’s over here on the west coast!

48 Stacy @ Every Little Thing August 30, 2011 at 10:50 am

Schlafly is not distrubuted out West, unfortunately. It’s in St. Louis!

49 kristacular August 30, 2011 at 11:27 am

hmm I”m coming to Boston/NYC next week. maybe I can get it over there? Thanks for the heads up :)

50 Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio August 29, 2011 at 9:59 pm

Y’all are just the cutest, seriously!!

51 KathEats August 30, 2011 at 9:18 am
52 Maria @ Maria Makes Muffins August 29, 2011 at 10:10 pm

I am loving pumpkin, too. Kasha pumpkin bakes are prepped for breakfast and I can’t wait!!! Bring it on, fall.

53 Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries August 29, 2011 at 10:20 pm

I was definitely going to comment when I saw the hummus plate, but then I saw the pepperoni pizza, and I HAD to say something about it too! They both look de-frickin-licious!!!

54 Emily August 29, 2011 at 10:27 pm

Wow. Jealous. Beer, hummus plate, pizza, weather, ugh…jealous! It all looks/sounds amazing! :)

55 Lindsay August 29, 2011 at 10:43 pm

Man that hummus plate looks so good! I have been staring at this lone can of chickpeas in my cabinet all week telling myself that I should make some hummus. Your pics are the kick in the butt I need. I bought some canned pumpkin this week. Maybe I can pretend its fall? Texas is a little behind. Still over 100 degrees…

56 Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga August 29, 2011 at 10:43 pm

The hummus and pizza look great and the soy milk over head shot is awesome.

And the emails that you didnt get for 6 weeks…eeeeeek! I bet that gave you a little panic attack. It would have given me one.

Question, I just posted about changing some things on my site (since you commented this morning, I changed it!) but I need social media icons and I dont know photoshop well enough to make my own. How/where did you get yours? The ones I see are all too big and clunky or bad colors!

57 KathEats August 30, 2011 at 9:18 am

If you google “social media buttons” there are thousands of kinds to download

58 Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga August 30, 2011 at 1:25 pm

yes the problem is I seem to have a knack for finding the ugly/super bright/super big ones or ones that I then need to customize more with Photoshop. Will keep searching :)

59 Taysa August 29, 2011 at 11:06 pm

“Why do I suspect that he really goes out for a beer when he runs errands!?”

Yeah, this is pretty much true for my boyfriend…ah heck, me too.

60 Jackie Smith August 29, 2011 at 11:11 pm

I’m sorry, you are wrong. It’s after 9PM and over 85 degrees. A chilly beer sounds great!

61 Hannah August 29, 2011 at 11:24 pm

You should probably call your first son Schafly.

62 KathEats August 30, 2011 at 9:18 am

63 Andrea April 10, 2012 at 6:41 pm

Kath, I came across this random post and saw this comment and had to laugh. So, are you gonna name him Schafly? 😉

64 KathEats April 10, 2012 at 6:53 pm

Hahahah. No, that’s not the name!

65 lynn @ the actor's diet August 30, 2011 at 12:28 am

i’ve never been a big pepperoni pizza person but that one’s making me drool!

66 Khushboo August 30, 2011 at 12:56 am

The thought of pork really doesn’t appeal to me but for some reason, I LOVE pepperoni pizza! Yummy dinz!

67 Aine @ Something to Chew Over August 30, 2011 at 3:03 am

Yum, that hummus plate looks fantastic!

I love the description of your protest :)

68 Sara @ Real Fun Food August 30, 2011 at 5:01 am

This seems like a random question, but do you have a favorite brand of pita bread? I love it when I go out and it’s freshly made, but every time I buy it it’s so gross! (I could probably figure out how to make it, but don’t always have time!)

69 KathEats August 30, 2011 at 9:19 am

Hmmm I don’t. I haven’t bought pita bread in so long I don’t even know what’s on the market

70 Lauren @ What Lauren Likes August 30, 2011 at 6:23 am

Fantastic looking dinner! I honestly have never heard of pumpkin beer before, cool :)

71 Barbara August 30, 2011 at 6:44 am

YUMMY. Your dinner looked amazing!

Chilly? Where? It’s 106 today and yesterday my car read 115. I am so ready for “winter”.

72 Cathy August 30, 2011 at 8:49 am

Same here in Houston. Wish we had fall and pumpkin beer. :(

73 Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin August 30, 2011 at 7:19 am

That sounds like such a long and busy day. You guys deserved a meal out! :)

74 Hillary August 30, 2011 at 8:03 am

I could probably demolish that entire hummus plate on my own. Seriously.

75 Margo @ Peanut Butter Trees August 30, 2011 at 8:14 am

Ooo I want to try that pumpkin beer! Pumpkin beers are my favorite, maybe because fall is my favorite season! Hope it was awesome. :)

76 molly August 30, 2011 at 9:00 am

I can’t wait for Fall. It’s still in the 90’s here. :( The hummus plate looks really tasty and fresh – I love all the toppings they put along side.

80 Alaina August 30, 2011 at 11:05 am

That hummus plate looks amazing! I think I could have that for a meal. But if pizza’s involved, than the decision is easy. 😉

81 Katie @ Plates and Paste August 30, 2011 at 11:18 am

Loot? Is that a type of budget app? Please enlighten me!

82 Christine August 30, 2011 at 11:54 am

85 Alison @ Hospitality Haven August 30, 2011 at 3:22 pm

Wow, that hummus plate looks INCREDIBLE! I could definitely go for that right about now…
