Logistics

February 3, 2010

My there is a lot of snow up here! It’s amazing how the I-85 corridor divides snow and rain. No wonder schools are closed. Tons of fog too. But it’s a nce day now – sunshine!!

I packed a hot tea for my commute. The Tea Spot Caramel Creme!! It was awesome and had a great aroma.

We spent the late morning discussing the logistics of school meal production given that the food deliveries have not come and lunch needs to be served tomorrow! Lots of shuffling around but smart minds figurered out a solution. I’m working a reception luncheon tomorrow and wondering if we’ll have school on Friday with more winter weather on the way!

I was starving and loopy by 11:30 and snacked on some Peeled dried pineapple to hold me over. Worked like a charm.

Since the cafeterias were empty today we picked up lunch from the Subway across the street. I gathered 6 orders and put money in envelopes to bring back the food.

I decided on a veggie salad with cheese an everything veg but onions. Plus oil and vinegar dressing and some almonds I had in my bag. I brought some Flax Oat Bran to share an had that on the side. And had an oatmeal cookie for dessert :)

We didn’t eat until 1pm and I was super hungry. Need this to digest stat!!

Now sipping chai tea :)

My coworkers wanted me to show you all the donuts they had for breakfast :) The sprinkles sure are pretty.

See ya at dinner!

Hey Kath,

Just curious if you’ll have to make up these snow days, or is your internship finished on a definite date? Lunch looked good :)

Laura,
I’ve been working from home on internship projects, so I shouldn’t have to make up the days (and went into work today despite the closing!)

That tea sounds awesome! Do you know if it is caffeinated?

I have been skipping onions on my salad too lately.

At my last company we used to have donut fridays… I went to late on Fridays hoping to avoid the donut… my co-workers figured it out so they would leave me one at my desk.. so it was sitting there waiting for me

Just made a big cup of tea, too, which helps ward off this winter chill from the 4″ of snow that dumped last night. What a crazy, snowy winter!

I ODed on Subway last year and haven’t eaten it since…that sammie looks good though! And sprinkles are definitely my fave sweet topping :)

Donuts being eaten by the nutritionists?! I actually like the flavor but I’ve finally learned that they upset my stomach so no matter how appealing they look, I should not/will not eat them. :) Just had half a slice of homemade banana bread though – yummy.

Haha gotta love the occasional non “Real Food” photo! Donuts are good though…gotta admit. Especially if they have holiday-themed sprinkles on them :-)

Why does Subway have to have such great cookies? I love the choc. chip! Never tried their salads. Not sure why your colleagues wanted you to show the donuts – they’re not very healthy!

WHAT?!?!? Donuts are not very healthy?!? You have got to be kidding me. And here I thought they were the healthiest things on earth and have been eating them everday to try to get healthy. Darn it!! I am so glad you are here to provide this invaluable information Lisa! I would never have known otherwise. Can you imagine the nerve of these people eating something for breakfast that is not healthy? I think they should be fired!!!

Kath just wanted to let you know I just moved right around the corner from a great harvest and got to try the Dakota bread for the first time. SO. GOOD. I ate the two ends to “try” it and then had a whole piece haha…with cottage cheese and jam to make it an official snack. I can’t wait to try the other breads! What do you recommend??

Reply

28 Kath February 3, 2010 at 8:41 pm

Yay :) They bread names vary from store to store, but I love Flax Oat Bran, Cinnamon Raisin Walnut, High Five Fiber and Whole Grain Goodness. Maybe ask for those if you don’t see them and they might be called something else. Try a muffin too!! (Ask if it’s a whole wheat one)

I am not a fan of your city right now, Kath! I had a connecting flight from Charlottesville through Charlottes and the Charlotte leg was cancelled, so now I’m spending all day in airports paying through the nose for food that is not as yummy as yours (even allowign for subway :P )

Can you please use your awesomeness to have words with yoru city about this? :D :D

Kath, I wanted to let you know that you are so inspiring because of your dedication to PLANNING! I think that one of the best tips you can give someone trying to eat healthier is that planning ahead is REALLY important! It comes more naturally to some of us than to others, but you provide an excellent example in terms of bringing along healthy sides to supplement your meals, packing healthy snacks to help avoid the vending machine, etc. Love it! :)

That salad looks great. I’m not a huge Subway fan but I will keep it in mind next time I need something quick!

And I’m jealous of all the yummy teas you find. I only have boring mint, vanilla and chai. :(

I would love to see Kath eat one of those donuts. Just once. Sadly, it will never happen.

Doughnuts are one of those great twice a year foods I will never buy, but if work has random doughnuts I will eat one and enjoy it. I however despise the fake frosting and sprinkles and eat plain glazed. Also, I enjoyed Sara’s great sarcasm in her reply.

We always have donuts at work for birthdays or special occasions. It would be great to change that to fresh fruit or vegetables, or even pitas with hummus, to show people that healthy can be delicious. The best part is when it’s my birthday and they celebrate with donuts. I try to be very healthy and they know it … I think they mock me sometimes. LOL!

I’ve seen those Peeled snacks here in Canada – I should give them a try sometime!
